The Windflower Inn

Charming Country Inn.

We came only for an overnight stay in order to meet our newly minted grandbaby, and quickly came to wish that we had been able to stay much longer. The owners, Tom and Michelle were friendly, gracious and thoughtful. The inn, Tom told us, had been built in the 1850s and was originally a family's vacation home. There are wonderful period features such as the dough warmers next to the dining room fireplace, the wall safe aside the living room fireplace, and the claw foot tub in our bathroom. The furnishings are comfy and attractive. The decorations are lovely, with quality art and interesting bric-a-brac. Michelle is a wonderful baker and the large jars containing several types of her homemade cookies provided more temptation than I could resist. There were also bowls of apples and oranges scattered about. Other thoughtful touches included a Keurig machine with options for coffees, tea, and hot chocolate for guests' use 24/7.and a sign offering guests the use of the refrigerator/freezer. Michelle carefully asked about any food allergies or taboos and checked out our preferences. She prepared a scrumptious breakfast of bacon, eggs, cinnamon swirl French toast, fresh fruit, juice, coffee or assorted teas. It was, in all respects, a wonderful stay, though all too brief. We hope to return when we have more time to relax and enjoy both the ambience of the inn, and the abundant music, theatre, two ski slopes, and other opportunities for fun in the surrounding community.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Great Barrington

Exactly what you need plus a pool

I was on a roadtrip with my two boys through the area and we booked the hotel last minute, needing somewhere to stay. It's just a 3 minute drive from downtown Great Barrington. We checked in very easily and got right up to our surprisingly spacious room with refreshing a/c through a window unit. The modern TV let us get a kids movie right on, and the small but functional bathroom did its job. In the morning, we made full use of the complementary warm breakfast including a modern miracle of an automated pancake maker. Then the boys and I went to make use of the indoor pool area, which includes a small hot tub and an 8-shaped pool with a shallow (3 ft) deep section and a deeper (6ft) section, which was plenty of space to have fun in a pool, although not ideal for lap swimming. There are also plentiful lounge chairs in the indoor pool area, although we were mystified by what they might be used for (indoor sunbathing?).
