Hotel Mercure Graz City4.0 out of 5.0

The hotel is positioned in the centre of town. it is easy to park by the rear of the hotel or underneath the hotel. our room was large and had been well maintained. we were quite impressed with the bathroom, but the highlight of the hotel was the breakfast which was quite sensational for a Mercure and very extensive. I particularly like the smoked salmon
Where else would I stay while being in Graz for business. All you need. Close to center, close to railway station. Clean and modern rooms. Good standard and amenities. Fair price. Bar for the evening. Friendly staff.
Mecure Graz City is centrally located to public transport, shops, restaurants and night life. The Old City is less than a 10 minute walk and provides some fantastic cultural experiences - simply beautiful. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to others.
I hadn't expected a huge amount from the mercure as it is cheaper than other so-called 4 star hotels in the city but I did expect a certain level of modernity from such a large chain that aims itself somewhat at the business traveller, as I was for this week. Location is not bad but is the furthest from the centre of Graz (15-20min walk) than other hotels I would assume it would deem its rivals. This area of Graz is also more modern than the very centre but doesn't appear quite as upmarket. The hotel certainly sadly reflects this although frontage, corridors and reception area are ok, I found my room to be fairly dated especially when it came to the yellow tiled bathroom with dingy shower set back in an unlit alcove over the bath. The bed was just a double and mattress was also incredibly thin and very uncomfortable. The TV took about 3-5mins to retune itself to receive any channels at all every time you switched it on and the air conditioning was all talk and no walk as was noisy but failed to cool the room to my desired 20degs even with curtains and windows shut. (Weather was hot but not Saharan) View from room was also nonexistent at the left hand side of the building as you look at it with an uninspiring gap and roof between buildings adorned with AC units. Good points were the room had tea and coffee making facilities, a rarity I have come to realise in Graz/Austria. The breakfast is also good with long opening times. I used the laundry service which came up trumps. Overall I expected a bit more from this hotel, and now knowing other hotels in Graz for not much more money, I am unsure I would return.
Mercure Graz City was a terrific place to stay. The staff made us feel at home and went out of their way to meet our needs. They were hospitable, warm and helpful. The location in Lendplatz is great, with fresh food markets just outside most mornings. The top floor room was excellent, with views towards Graz Center. The range of food for breakfast was extensive and high quality - good value. We will stay there again. :) Thanks G&D (Australia).
Sketchy neighbourhood. Not a good hotel to get to if you are driving as there are no directions on where to park and how to get to the front door. The amenities are not much better then an Etap hotel.
I would not like to review this hotel, it would unfair from me because of the following situation. We booked and paid the staying in this hotel in advance in the middle of March, we stayed there in the end of April - in the beginning of May. Using my previous experience I checked in online. Though the hotel was paid off a certain amount of money was blocked on my bank card right after checking-in as authorization. I contacted the hotel and I was informed it would be unblocked after the checking-out. On May the 1st during checking-out a staff member politely listened to my complaint, then declared the hotel had nothing to do with it and I should contact Accorhotels. On arriving home I sent an email to Accorhotels and into few days again to the hotel. But no answer since then from anybody. I have just called the bank, they advised to contact the hotel. It's a vicious circle. If Accorhotels or whoever needed to authorize my bank card does it really take so long to do that? Why should I be authorized if the hotel was paid? I am only a consumer, I need services but not complications. This is the reason I would not like to review the hotel. Just one unprejudiced notice: a room cleaning at 5 PM is a little too late.
Nice place to stay while in Graz. The rooms and the hotel are very clean. Easy to park under the hotel if you arrive by car. It takes two to three minutes to walk to Mur (river). Busstop 100 m from the hotel. Friendly staff at the hotel
This is a basic hotel and a great value for your money. Checkin/checkout was swift and hotel staff was friendly. Hotel room was clean and comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here if I found myself in Graz again. We stayed in room 213 and the internet connection was horrible. It would hold the connection for a moment and then go out. The room is at the end of the second floor hallway and we assumed that we were just far away from the router. When we walked out into the hallway we had no trouble with the internet, but from inside the room or while sitting on the bed, it did not hold. This makes it challenging when you are planning on the go. The walls are a bit beat up and could use some attention.
Could not sleep well. Very warm in the room and hotel. Asked at the reception why the airco didn't work. Answer: it is not the season yet. Why do I pay for then? So tried with open window, but too much noise outside. So, never again!
