Very good hotel with possibility of parking in the very center of the town. Rooms are nice. My only complaint is that the floor is covered by ceramic not by carpet. Service is very friendly and breakfast is standard for Mercure. I will come again
Not a bad place, with all you'd expect of Mercure. Comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, decent breakfast and bar, and clean and quiet. The location is not bad, not too far a walk from the old town, and easy to get to as well. There's not too much in the way of views, which is a pity as Graz is a beautiful town. Nonetheless, the place is not too bad.
Introduction: I'm used to sleep in hostel, and not to go around and spend night in this kind of fancy hotel, so you know what's the level of my tolerance and flexibility, normally. Point is that, they are making renovation works on the facade. The first day I was waken up by drills on my head at 07.30 a.m. I asked to change room in the morning, and they gave me another one, close by. I went up, made my bag, moved it from one room to another and left for the conference I had to attend. The second room was slightly quieter, but when I tried to have a rest in the afternoon again unbearable noises. I had asked to be moved the farthest away from the noise but they told me "If tomorrow morning you still have problems come down and we will solve it." Luckily I could be able to "test" the room before risking to be waken up again by drill the day after. The third room was ok to sleep into but only with earplugs. They should really tell people beforehand of this works, and/or make a discount and/or offer other services. Tell people beforehand so either I don't come, or I ask for a specific room, or I know that there are works, at the bare minimum.
Down town location but so hard to find due to renovations.Rooms very hot. Many hotels now do not give top sheets and expect you to sleep under warm duvets (doonas) in hot rooms. Air-conditioning should be able to be adjusted in each room and not set between 22c and 24c. Many thanks to Marlene for all her help and assistance. Two old Australians thank her very much.
Plus points- central location, modern decor room, breakfast is ok. Downside- air con not working, room was very warm, noise and construction, not warned about construction when booking.... Expected better !!!
Spent one night here on the way to Croatia. Renovation work in front of the hotel, but as we were ther over the weekend we didn't have any noise. No place to stop in front of the hotel, as it is on a busy street, but there is parking (shared with a supermarket) just around the corner. Direct access to the hotel from the car park. Great location, plenty of places to eat just in front of the hotel. Very friendly staff at the checkin desk.
The hotel was under renovation and we were not told about any noise issue when we checked-in. But in the morning we woke up around 7:00 due to the noise of the construction team. There was no real help or mitigation from the hotel team
Stayed for 2 nights mid August having driven down from Vienna. It took ages to find the place as it is covered in scaffolding and even if it had not been dark and raining would not have been easy to spot. The reception staff did not seem overly bothered when we arrived and mentioned this. Car park is secure, but it is an extra cost, or you take your chance on the street nearby. Even though the website, and notices in the lift said the bar was open until 11 p.m. it never was (so we had to venture out for something to eat at 8 p.m. when we arrived). A reasonable selection of bars and cafes nearby though. Location to the centre of the city is great, but just remember SHOPS ARE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS. Room average, but it was two single beds pushed together, and two single duvets. Shower is a big issue as the shower head is on the side and the bathe has a very small flat bottom, it is mostly curved. As others mentioned the builders start work around 7.30 a.m. and are very noisy with drilling and banging. Definitely not a 4 star experience, probably could do, better - the Ibis behind was cheaper but would still have the same issue with building work.
My family visited the hotel for two nights in July 2017. The location was great, so that you can go round all the important sights of Graz walking . But the hotel we could find if we were standing in front of him because he was under scaffolding and surrounded by construction curtains. Employees at the front desk were friendly and helpful especially when I warned them that the room was full of dust. In the room there is a kettle and Nespresso machine. I think 4-star hotel (and price) to be more effort.
We stayed at Mercure Graz City for one night in July, 2017, and what a nightmare it turned out to be. First there was seemed like human feces on side of the toilet, then there were molds all over the bathtub caulkings. Disgusting is a polite way to describe it. Worst yet, next morning well before 9am the hotel started constructions in the room right above us, with drills and everything! In short, this is definitely NOT a 4-star facility, and you can do much better with same budget. Please learn from my misfortune and avoid Mercure Graz City.
