It was fine for the money. The room is not soundproof: could heat people talking in halls and miners of talking outside in street. Lots of stairs. The staff seemed confused. But still not bad for the price.
The Argyll Guest House is an annex of the Argyll Hotel, located in the basement across the street. The hotel itself and staff was lovely and in a wonderful location. But the guest house across the street has 3 single rooms in the basement with windows that open out into a court yard where sewage from the building is flushed out. The staff were wonderful and the breakfast lovely, but I couldn't get over the overwhelming stench of sewage permeating my room. Because the hotel was completely booked they couldn't move me but they did absolutely nothing, like comping my breakfast. This is a known problem and the excuse is "well, you have a budget room". If I had known budget meant sewage stench, I would not have booked the room.

Yes, our rooms are not soundproof but it is rare we receive noise complaints Our staff are very clued up on the runnings of the hotel as most of them have been here for over 5 years. We do however have two interns until the end on April so it may have been one of them you spoke to. They are learning day by day but everyone has to start somewhere. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We are glad you enjoyed your stay overall at our hotel and found it value for money.
