Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Location was good and staff was very very friendly and helpful. We booked a twin room and the room was spacious in comparison to other hotels in Japan. Bathroom and shower amenities was great. The only thing is that the use of pool and fitness centre incurs extra costs, which is quite different to other 4 star hotels. Overall we had a good experience in the hotel.
My family stayed at the Okura when we visited Fukuoka in December. We spent 3 nights at the Okura before making our way to Kagoshima and then returned for another 2 nights. We left one of our bags at the Okura when we left for Kagoshima. Mr Huang (concierge) who took care of our bags when we first arrived made sure our bag was taken to our room before we checked in for our second visit. That was very thoughtful (thanks Mr Huang!). We visited the Hakatagawa Bar at the Okura thrice. We thoroughly enjoyed every one of our visits to this bar. The Hakatagawa Bar is a classy Japanese hotel bar that attracts a mix of (serious) Japanese business customers, small parties of friends and hotel guests like us. The service was impeccable and excellent and the staff most efficient. Special thanks to Mr Hidekazu Takehisa who looked after us at the bar on 2 of our visits. Special thanks also to Chef Tomokazu Kawasaki from Camellia (Dining) at the Okura. Finally thanks also to Mr Lee (concierge) for recommending the yakitori restaurant nearby - we enjoyed our dinner!
I have been to several city in Kyushu all for holiday. I must said this is the best hotel we have stayed. Room is huge and lots of space for 3 of us with our 3 luggages. Is 5 stars quality though it is rated as 4 stars. Car parking was easy unlike many other city hotel where parking a car can make one lose half the day. This is the only room that truly accommodate 3 persons. All other hotel just squeeze in an extra bed taking up all the spare space available for luggage. We will definitely chose this hotel again. Thank you TripAdvisor for the good rating. I can't say this very often as many of TripAdvisor rating seems to be off.
Everything was great: - Location on the river, near all the restaurants & bars, and on top of the subway - Spacious & elegant lobby - Nice (small) room - Attentive staff The only thing that stood out was the bathroom was a bit tight and out-dated. Overwise a pleasant stay.
Friendly staff and concierge spent a bit of time helping me find stuff. I ended up walking everywhere but the subway is very convenient and close to the hotel, especially to the airport. Nice views of bay from hotel room.
A great experience to stay at Hotel Okura Fukuoka, the underground (中州川端駅 in The Airport line）to link with the hotel so that the transportation is very convenience, and ¥1500 parking fee per night if rent a car. The hotel is located at the city centre, many restaurants, Don Quijote, supermarket are nearby. I am highly recommend this hotel and I must stay here again if go to Fukuoka next time.
I always like the old fashion hotels, Okura is a icon of them. All things here are just right. I left one pair of my shoes in the room, the guest manager sent them to my home country without any extra charge.
I booked this hotel for 3 nights via booking.com and was travelling with my wife and my 5 year old daughter. After the booking (some weeks before the check-in date) I received a friendly e-mail that they will find a room, which is perfectly suitable for our small family. At the check-in everything was different: the welcome started with "you booked a smoking room". That was a REAL shock, because I did definitely not! And as everyone can imagine: a smoking room for non-smokers with a child is one of the most awful experiences you can make. So I checked the voucher of booking.com: everything correct and even a non-smoking sign was printed on the voucher. The person at check-in checked and re-checked this voucher and I felt like a cheater. IN JAPAN - THE COUNTRY OF PERFECT SERVICE! In the room I felt really annoyed and I spent an hour to re-check what may have happened. I started booking.com and started another booking-session at this hotel. And I think I have an explanation for this inconvience: every 2* motel around the world manages to distinguish non-smoking room-offers and smoking-rooms. Not hotel Okura Fukuoka (at least in August 2016). There are also rooms offered, which are not declared as "non-smoking" or "smoking". But thanks to booking.com in the "background" of a booking this seems not to be allowed or my preferences at this page (non-smoking) overwrite such undistinguished room-offers. Actually the hotel has a whole floor with smoking rooms (if I have read this correctly) and I think this procedure is on purpose - to get rid of these smoking rooms, which nowadays are for sure hard to sell. Finally we got a non-smoking room, not even a sign of an excuse. I have been in Japan for almost 5 months (always on vacation and in a lot of different hotels) - something like never happened before and for sure not in a hotel of this category.
I stayed here for a night with my gal pals on 9 September after finishing a lovely trip exploring West Kyushu the last few days. The hotel room is comfortable and is located next to one of the nice malls - Hakata Riverain and also the Fukuoka Art Museum which I like to head to but a pity I didn't have time to explore this trip. I had tons of beautiful pottery and food stuffs purchased for myself and gifts for people, and the concierge team was helpful in arranging and helping to bring the packed goods to the post office conveniently located just behind the hotel to help us to complete the necessary EMS and airmail forms. Unfortunately one of my boxes was detained in the post office as I didn't know I could not pack sun block sprays (yes travellers - any kind of sprays are now not allowed for airmail), which I only found out after I had returned to Singapore. I have to give a special shout out to Ms Matsumoto who was very patient and helped me to resolve this issue over these 2 days, and now the box minus the silly sprays is on its way to Singapore to me finally! She deserves a special commendation, and I am writing this to also let the General Manager of Hotel Okura know you have such wonderful staff here.
