This was our second visit to this hotel; last time was in May 2016, Nothing seems to have changed since our last visit, which isn’t a bad thing but even the entertainment seemed exactly the same. On the positives I found that the food had improved against when we stayed before, more choice and I thought better quality of meats used, last time it was very pork based, the only criticism I have is that the cheese selection lets the hotel down, Princess and Magic life hotels are significantly better. The staff again are exceptional, everyone is friendly and efficient, must mention “Chiani” at breakfast in the main building, very good, always watched everyone as they came in and a soon as seated turned up with a pot of Coffee, she also kept everyone’s tables cleared. This hotel is showing its age and many have commented on this, although it’s not terrible, some issues are developing, we had two problems with the room, first the bathroom light failed to work and then the toilet failed to flush, each time we reported these issues to reception they were fixed quickly but it suggest that the real issue is that they are worn out. Beds were comfortable, we were in the main building so had great views, the location is one of the benefits, the downside of this is it requires a taxi or bus ride into Corralejo town. The room seemed identical to what we had before except that it now had a large flat screen TV which hid half the mirror, The fridge is good as is the safe which although opened by a key is free and of a good size, note that the safe is at the bottom of the wardrobe and its very dark so not easy to find things. Since we were staying early November it was easy to find space to sunbathe, we like the beach but when its windy and one day it was very windy we stayed around the pool, the bubble pool was warm last time it was so cold no one would use it so that was an improvement. The hotel probably caters for the mature group of people, although we met several single travellers, Clientele is predominantly German so it was good to practice my language skills which are poor. All the staff seem multilingual so no issues. If we stay in the north of the island then this or its sister hotel “Tres Isles” is where we would choose.
A clean cheerful hotel with great happy staff. The food is very good for this type of holiday and the drinks were fine. It is a bit dated but we liked that and more to the point it was very clean. We made the mistake of booking a surf lesson with local firm Flag Beach and it was DREADFUL. We asked if there were any waves that day and we were assured there were. Untrue. Once they had our money they gave us old wetsuits and put us in the local dirty seaweed covered ROCKY beach for a lesson. So dangerous and we had a child with us. When I pointed out the dangers of having a board over seaweed hidden rocks and the lack of waves the overconfident intstructor was very rude. The best thing to do is borrow a bodyboard from the hotel and bodyboard on the main beach. If you want a surf lesson get in touch with PROTEST surf school. They are not rude and can communicate well. Above all....check the surf/tides for yourself by looking on the main beach and if there are no waves CANCEL and REBOOK your lesson for another day when there are waves. They are not able to take you anywhere with waves if there are no waves on the main beach. Of course if you turn up for a lesson on a flat sea day..yes...they will take your money. So AVOID Flag Beach surf school. The local supermarket is great and the local bus to town is every 30 mins. We are going back in 2 months, a lovely place with superb beach.
Introduction We are a family of 6 - 3 Adults aged 43,41 and 18 and 3 Children aged 15, 13 and 5 and we travel at least 3 times per year so hope our ‘honest review’ posts provide a good accurate reflection to everyone as we have a lot of past experience to compare and reflect on. Transfer and check in - 10/10 Met by Thomson reps - coach transfer around 30-40 mins and were first drop off, the rep stayed on coach and looked after everyone checking in, nice touch and rare these days! Staff on reception were polite, efficient and could not do enough for every person checking in. From keys, maps, free flowers for the lady’s and FREE Wi-Fi codes it’s was a perfect and flawless start to our holiday. Rooms 9.5/10 We had booked 2 rooms in the Annex aka the buildings around the gardens of the main hotel - ours had a pool view which was lovely. Rooms were fantastic, clean, spacious and even had a fridge - great touch as drinking warm water is something most people don’t like. The aircon is only in the bedroom and is absolutely useless, it doesn’t reduce the temperature of the room at all so this needs addressing and was the same in BOTH of our rooms and other we spoke to - deducted .5 off the room rating for this. Luckily as we travelled in October temp was around 22 degrees at night so wasn’t an issue for us but suspect it would be unbearable in the summer. Our Annex room had windows front and back so with those open had a lovely breeze which was perfect for us so this did not spoil our stay. Shower was fantastic, powerful and plenty of warm water and free shower gel. Balcony was huge, spacious, clean and had 4 good chairs and a large table - again absolutely fantastic. Hairdryer is absolutely useless and wouldn't even dry my bald head never mind somebody’s hair !. It was more like a 1970s hoover attached to the wall so bring a travel one if you have hair you want to dry in under 2hrs. Food 10/10 The food at this resort is absolutely fantastic, it’s the best all inclusive food I have ever tasted. In fact I shudder to label it "all-inclusive food" as it was more like "expensive restaurant food" in all honesty. The veal and beef was juicy and moist - the same standard as a high end restaurant I had frequented the previous week in the UK. Pizza was hot and of the same standard as "posh" Italian restaurants I have eaten in back home. All the food here is absolutely fabulous - even have every condiment you can think of including Tabasco which I love to spice up food. Did I mention ALL the food is to die for here ..... my mouth is watering typing this review! Ice cream, cakes and snacks were available all day for adults and children and the staff could not do enough to help. We were welcomed on our second night with champagne / Cava as walking through the restaurant doors - what an excellent touch it felt like we were at a swanky black tie event. The staff bring over your water if you want it as you sit at your table, choice of sparking or still and are the most pleasant waiters / waitresses I have ever seen. Drinks 10/10 The all inclusive drinks are amazing - Amstel beer on self-serve tap, as are soft drinks for the kids. Don’t forget to get a good few glasses of CAVA - it’s available with breakfast (woo hoo!) and all day and all evening. The Whisky and measures are fabulous - and all served in proper glasses in the bars and it makes you very happy :). There was no limit on drinks per person which is great when you are a large family. The bar staff even provided us with full bottles of CAVA to save us having to keep getting up and going to the bar ordering multiple glasses of it - made us feel special and was a superb touch. Nice touches 10/10 We were served honey brandy whilst sunbathing around the pool by a friendly waiter - a nice surprise and made us feel really welcome - never had this kind of service before, not even in Platinum hotels we have frequented. The safe in the room was also free, as are pool towels. Water 7/10 There is a saying - water water everywhere, sadly that’s not the case here. It’s available in the bars from a pump (and it’s warm) but bottles for your nice room fridge are not provided as part of the all inclusive. You have to buy these from the water machines which are overpriced and normally broken or the local "onsite" shop. Water from the machines id priced at 1.5 Euro per small bottle, however you can get a 5L bottle for 2 Euros from the shop if you catch it when it’s open. It’s such a shame they don’t add a bit on to the price of the holiday and include a 5L bottle of water a day ‘complimentary’ in your fridge - would make it absolutely perfect. Wi-Fi 10/10 This is provided FREE for 2 devices per room - again a fantastic touch. It’s also the best Wi-Fi I have ever seen abroad. Around 50mbps download and the same upload !. Much better than my home connection and as such but kept the kids very happy. Summary 10/10 This is an absolutely stunning hotel with staff that will do anything to make you happy and have a good holiday. All the staff are a credit to the hotel and I would highly recommend this hotel as being one of the best I have ever stayed in. Add that to the perfect beach location and you have found paradise, we did.
Landed at airport and to be honest very straight forward. Short coach ride to the hotel of about 30 minutes which was a great start to the holiday. Passed some lovely looking beaches and a sea of clear blue...excited. Got to hotel and initial thoughts were..... if you took Butlins in minehead, picked it up and put it in feurteventura then you'd get the RIU Oliva Beach. Very tired and dated hotel with an attached mini village. Tacky areas for sitting and eating and aimed towards the 1970's clientele. Note to hotel....you really need to drag yourself into the the 2000s and focus efforts on modernising. Do this and you may get an increase in returned custom. But if you can see past all that and make the best of what you get then you'll have a great holiday. Plenty of daytime activities, plenty of food and drink and the beach will rival the best list. Great weather this time of year and we're now looking to book again for next year....but we're really considering whether the RIU Oliva Beach is the right choice.
I stayed with my family at the hotel in November and we enjoyed great weather, sunny and not much wind. The beach is very calm, shallow in low tide and just steps away from the hotel. You still have to leave the hotel premises, pay for lounge and umbrella and it is forbidden to bring drinks and food out. We didn't find that to be a great inconvenience though since we could have drinks and snacks at the pool and we had brought our own shade. The annoying part was that on some days it was virtually impossible to find a place at the pool unless you reserved it in the morning which is a disappointing practice. With that said, the pools close to the beach were clean and warm. The kiddie pool had partial shade in the afternoon which was a relief in the hottest of days. The snack bar at the pools was very handy and you could get all kinds of drinks that never left me disappointed but I'm not big on cocktails. What was disappointing was the lack of fresh fruit. They would sometimes bring it out around 12pm but that is a bit late for kids to snack. The restaurants open at 1pm which is also not very family friendly. My kids were both starving and tired by that time since we usually have breakfast around 8am. We stayed in an apartment that was away from the main building which was very convenient since we're not so much into entertainment. It was very quiet and the gardens were well kept. There were a few fragrant trees where I'd gladly hang out if there were any benches. The most unpleasant part of the hotel premises was a building on the way to the beach reeking toilet odors. That might have been the water cleaning station which is a great facility to have but walking by it was very unpleasant. The staff of the hotel was very accommodating. In the very beginning we asked to change our room and they gladly gave us another one. Later on, I had my daughter napping in the room and the made changed cleaning the room in the morning. That was a great relief. The maid station was very close to our room but I rarely heard any noise from it. The only part that I was completely disgusted by was the morning when we were leaving at 5am and we went to the snack bar to have early breakfast. The entire bar was deserted. There was a tray of cheese and ham wrapped in plastic looking like it was left the night before and the the ham part was all torn apart as if one of the hotel cats (yes there are some cats in the hotel) got to it but even it didn't like the ham. All in all, an average experience if we don't count the last breakfast.
Went in may with family for a week, hotel was great food was good a wide choice and weather was lovely and hot, local bus takes you to the strip where your find shops bars and restaurants, would definitely go back
I came home today after a week at this hotel.. my 84 year old mum and sister. Fab stay lush hotel fantastic value for money. Our first family room was overlooking the small pool two single beds and one sofa bed which wasn’t good and the room was so small.. however I asked and two days after a call to go look at a larger family room. This room was brilliant roomy and a separate bedroom with two single beds and a large sofa bed in a much larger ground floor room. No stairs so excellent. Fridge in room great, hairdryer in bathroom not really strong but ok on short hair. No kettle or cups in the room.. we couldn’t get Wifi only in hotel reception. Staff are wonderful. Beach amazing
The staff went out of their way to accommodate us in all ways possible, including installing a brand new ceiling fan in our room. Meals were really good, hotel and facilities are not new but are kept very clean and in good condition. The resort was busy, but it is large enough to accommodate all the guests. Location is great, on the beach, easy access to busses and taxi and very close to Corralejo. All in all a great holiday.
Food amazing, Varied and fresh. Staff excellent. Rooms very clean. You are allowed to remove any towels on unoccupied sun beds and leave with little friendly hotel man by the pool. No problems will arise so just take them off if nobody appears for 30 mins. We did this to prevent you know who from securing the sun loungers at dawn. The hotel policy is against holding sun beds with towels, this is excellent. What a wonderful holiday. Thank You
OK let's get the few not so good points out of the way. There is a strong smell of poo poo near the pool. This is OK for some who may be smokers and cannot smell a thing. Many of the male and female Germans cannot wait to change in public which can shock the children. The sunbeds are taken with towels by 5am. However the hotel is great. It is clean and the staff are fantastic. The beach is superb and even the chained up camels look a bit happy at times. The food is clean and varied. Coffee is great. Take a toolbox so you can fix the problems in your room.Enjoy.
