Great stay for large group

Was a great place for my groups annual golf outing, plenty of rooms/beds, great indoor and outdoor congregation space, and plenty of character. Only drawback was some low doorway headers. Already considering a return trip!

Great for large groups!

This property easily accommodated our large group for a family get together. The property has several areas (both inside and outside) for the whole family to hang out in, but also has several rooms available for people to escape to do some work or have some private time. John was a great host and very responsive.

Nice Place to Stay

Great large house with a lot of history. Part of the fun was reading and learning the history of the home and the ownership and genealogy. The home does have some age but nothing that one couldn't easily become accustomed to. I would recommend this home to large gatherings.

Summer with family

This funky old place was just right for our multigenerational get together in northern New England. Lots of bedrooms and nooks and crannies to get lost in. Pool keeps the young ins entertained. Close to classic swimming spots, ice cream, and an easy and totally rewarding summit of Mt Kearsage. Classic New England summer!

Amazing time!

The house and the stay was amazing. We loved having the pool and the lawn was in great shape for games. We spent a lot of time in it after golf and yard games since it was up around 90 degrees some days we stayed but the ACs saved us at night. The sunroom was a great place for us to all eat and hang out and we loved the uniqueness of the home. We would def go back!

an epic family reunion

This home fit our family (grandparents, 3 adult children with spouses, 5 grandchildren) perfectly, and allowed us to host the other 20 family members for a day. Good times had by all. Just remember to duck your head when walking through the house!

Our home away from home

This is our 2nd time staying at the 40 Gile Rd house for our annual Adult Weekend Getaway (Friendcation). After years of searching we have finally found the perfect place to laugh a little more, share in memories we will have never forget and of course eat (and maybe drink :)) way too much. Waiting another 365 days will be hard but we are all counting down the days until we can meet again at our home away from home. Thank you again for a wonderful weekend!!

Antique Colonial

Great place for experiencing an authentic early American home. Please remove multitude of spiderwebs on main floor, trim high weeds, and air condition first floor as 90+ degree interior is challenging.

Beautiful old Farm House, so much character. Such an awesome place!

This is a gorgeous piece of property with an amazing farm house from the 1800s ( I believe). The decor and character of this home are amazing. This Farm house has clearly been kept well and loved dearly by its famiy for generations. There is plenty of space for large families. There are many rooms with comfortable accommodations. I highly recommend staying here. If you are into old farm houses, history and a peaceful getaway this is the place for you!! I would definitely rent this place again. There so many wonderful things to say about this home.

I LOVE THE GILE ROAD FARMHOUSE!

Gile Road is a very special place. We have stayed there twice and we will definitely return. It is full of history and is incredibly charming and very comfortable. Each time we went with a large group of good friends and had an amazing time. It is quiet and relaxing and also possesses rooms spacious enough for large groups of friends and family to gather and eat meals together. From each window of the home you see amazing vistas and you feel like you are in the country but you are actually quite close to two different towns. I love this farmhouse!

Wonderful Family Vacation

Our family had a great time at this very spacious and private property. The adults and kids swam and splashed in the pool, had lunches and dinners in the sunroom and enjoyed walking around the grounds and playing lawn games. There are ample board games for a rainy evening for both adults and kids. We found the kitchen to be very well stocked, as during the week we were there all but two meals were cooked at the house. The owner was very responsive and easy to get in touch with. The property was just a great place overall to stay at with a lot of history that comes with it! Thank you John!!!

Perfect House for Friends Weekend

We stayed here August 2020 with 10 friends, it was the perfect house for us to chill out for a long weekend. We cooked, drank, swam, and explored all weekend! The pool was wonderful for lounging, relaxing, and a bit of throwing the football around. The room off the pool was AMAZING for having meals, it allowed us all to sit together and be close to the bar! The kitchen (with the extra refrigerator) was prefect for cooking meals. The house had so much history and interesting "secret" spaces. There were plenty of bedrooms and space for everyone. We would absolutely rent this house again!!!

Wonderful escape for a large family

My extended family vacations together for a week each summer and this year stayed at this house in Franklin NH. The house was spacious enough to comfortably allow 10 adults and 5 children to relax, explore, and play. Rooms were clean, appliances well-maintained, and the outdoor grounds are expansive and practically demand exploration! The kids spent hours each day in the pool and playing hide and seek in the house’s nooks and crannies. At night, there’s no city light getting in the way of some great stargazing. The caretakers were consistently helpful and gracious. We were very happy to have stayed here and we thank John and his team for providing us with a memorable venue.

Beautiful historic home for our wedding weekend

My partner and I got married on Mt. Kearsarge and stayed at the house with friends and family for the weekend. The house accommodated a large group wonderfully with AC in almost all rooms and a nice big bedroom downstairs away from all the others where the one family with a baby could stay. We loved the hearth and old farm implements on display. The patio, fire pit, and pool were amazing with beautiful views and sunsets. Nice updated kitchen with two fridges and a dishwasher. The house is historic but had everything we needed. Our communication with the host started with some confusing moments but he made it right and was very generous. We will remember our stay here always!

Best Christmas spot

Our adult children and daughter in law joined us for the week leading up to Christmas and this couldn't have been a better place for us. We were in our own Covid bubble so having a large house with many wings, rooms, nooks and quiet places for us all to be together and yet have privacy was perfect! When we arrived there must have been 3 feet of snow on the ground and it looked like a Christmas card. We got a tree, strung lights, baked cookies, cooked too much food, tromped in the woods, did some downhill at Ragged Mountain, and just generally settled in for a relaxing family Christmas. John has done a lovely job of preserving the feel of this rambling homestead and yet providing comfy beds with first class linens - we all slept incredibly well. Highly recommend and we hope to be back!

Historic Adventure with Modern Amenities

ThIs 1860s house takes you back in time with modern comfort. Our grandchildren saw old construction but ate food prepared with new appliances and saw 40 acres of open space for wiffle ball games but swam in a modern inground pool. The linens and kitchen supplies were adequate. Only the bedrooms had air conditioners. The firepit was great. Our family seeks adventure and builds family memories. If you want total confort go to the sterile Hilton Inn. If you want new experiences come here for the open space and unique house. The property manager was very helpful. We enjoyed the tomatoes from the garden. A great time was had by all.

Lovely property, relaxing weekend

We spent a lovely long weekend at Gile Road with a number of our closest friends and their young families (5 kids in total). It was the utmost in relaxation and such a fun, historic property to explore and appreciate. The kids loved the pool and the guys loved having the large lawn for whiffle ball. We even got in a co-ed game of soccer while the kids napped in the afternoon. There was plenty of space for everyone--both to gather together and to have privacy in their own rooms. We loved the seclusion, the beautiful views, and the character of the house. The kitchen was well stocked as were towels, linens, etc. We were not in need of anything! It was a lovely getaway for a few days of peace and quiet while catching up with old friends. Would definitely recommend!

Wonderful family reunion location!

We had a fantastic stay at the farmhouse. The home is very rustic, but also large, and very comfortable. We had a group of roughly 15 plus local family members visiting and we never felt crowded. Lots of small rooms to get away and larger rooms for entertaining bigger groups. Between the sunroom and the dining room there is probably dinner seating for 19-20 people in the summer, 12 in the winter. The rooms are filled with interesting memorabilia and extremely comfortable furniture. The beds, sheets, pillows, and towels are high quality. Our group was from Florida so we don’t tolerate cold well, but between the fireplace and the heat being on we were plenty warm even with temps in the 40s. There are also modern space heaters and fans in most bedrooms in case it’s actually cold outside. All in all our trip was wonderful and we would gladly stay here again!

Needs fixing

We stayed here over the New Year’s holiday with 5 other couples. The pictures are accurate in showing a home of considerable age and history. We woke up the first morning to no heat and no hot water which they promptly fixed. What they could not fix was the smell of sewerage that permeates many rooms of the house. The rooms that did not smell of sewerage smelt of heating oil. Some of us left a day early while others stayed and toughed it out. We had fun because of the people we were with but would not return.

Needs repairs

The house itself was lovely and had a lot of character. The kids really enjoyed the pool. The only problem was the water had a smell to it and the showers or toilets did not work after two days. There was no water pressure, after a couple of days we used the water hose outside to wash up. Also after a heavy rainstorm a small part of the ceiling in one bedroom came down. There was a nice big deck that we were not able to use because it was said to be not safe, it's to bad because it looks like there are some beautiful views from on top of that deck. We still made the best of it and had a great time. Aaron the caretaker was really friendly and told us about the history of the home which was really interesting. I think I would go back if the repairs were made. Donna Szymanski
