Had a 3 night stay here as part of a wowcher deal & had hardly any sleep as we had to leave the balcony door open due to the heat and there being no air con despite the hotel advertising they did in their amenities. There are currently renovations going on outside the hotel which started at 7am so you can imagine the noise! In the end we had to shut the door and suffer the heat. Can't imagine what it would be like in the height of summer! The room we had was plain but did the business and it was cleaned every day. Staff were pleasant enough and helpful. Breakfast was terrible. Toast, cheap ham, tasteless cheese, cereals, boiled eggs and some cakes. Needless to say it was empty most days. We found the city sightseeing hop on hop off bus tour an excellent way to see the city without hassle. The bus journey from the hotel to town centre was easy enough but make sure you buy your ticket before you get on as it can mean a €50 fine if you don't have one!
Spent two nights here and picked it based on its proximity to Nelson Mandela Forum. Not worth it. Would not return. The place was overrun by noisy tour bus people. I was awoken both mornings by the street noise below of them gathered and talking loudly by their buses. The huge breakfast room was basically trashed each day with little left to choose by 9am. Hotel management and tour companies need to remind these people to be courteous of their neighbours. Housekeeping missed both our rooms so fresh towels and emptied garbage were not provided. The front desk offered housekeeping to come up at 5pm which was not convenient when preparing for an evening out. It seems they were more focused on getting ready for the next bus load rather than the remaining guests. The neighbourhood has one restaurant open late so there are really no options for dining. The easy-to-find #14 bus is nearly impossible to find. Florence is great and the city centre and sites were easy to get to with a very nice walk along the river. However I passed a million other hotels and would definitely not pick this one again.
We booked this hotel through tour center and wasn’t sure what to expect but we got upgraded to a studio which was lovely! The reception staff were great really polite and gave us advice about how to get to Florence centre. Continental breakfast which is standard in Italy. The only downside to this hotel is the long walk to the centre ( it took us 45 minutes) and there is no metro in Florence. We eventually figured out the buses which saved us lots of money in taxis. Would recommend for anyone looking for a short break in Florence who can use public transport!
This hotel was booked for us as part of a city break package. On arrival at the train station we eventually found the bus 14, with the help of Italians. There are a lot of roadworks taking place which makes the search more difficult. The hotel is roughly 20 minutes ride out of the city centre (including traffic - 10 if clear). This was not a problem. There is a lovely coffee shop/bar where you get your bus tickets from; a nice place for a quick drink or cake and coffee, very friendly. The hotel was fine, our room involved taking two lifts to get to it and in a quiet area - building work was taking place below but we were in and out and evenings fine. The breakfast was fine, a reasonable selection, staff were delightful and though very busy tried to meet all your needs. There was a party of school children staying there, they were very well behaved and a credit to their teachers and school (thank goodness!). Matile on Reception was beyond helpful and guided us on routes to take back into Florence or to the gardens. We could have walked along the river but it was bitterly cold at the time we stayed. The hotel was always warm, room clean and towels and bedlinen spotless. We had eaten in Florence but there were two restaurants close by that appeared to be fine. We had a drink in one restaurant, the Italian owners were lovely, so helpful and pleased to have us there. It is true the hotel is a little tired, but this would be remedied with new carpets and a lick of paint; for us it met our needs, clean, spacious bright room. We felt like we were in with the Italians in the area, the bus journey was not a problem and adds to the holiday as we were mixing with the locals and having conversations. A very pleasant, basic hotel, that meets your needs for a city break - if you want luxury not for you.
We was in this hotel 2 nights Its marked as 4 stars hotel but it's defenetely not. Its comes like holiday package so we didn't know hotel name till last minute. When we arrived in our room fridge doesn't worked so receptionist gave another room., but there was noisy all the time as builders was working whole days outside, couldn't leave open window. Breakfast was in basement location, without any window, it was enough dark and cold, f&b staff not very pleased with guests just came to us when saw hotel boss to collect plates. Plates where extremely small like tea plate (please see pic) food choice very poor, hot food only boiled eggs, all food areas kept not tidy, (I added photo) Near lifts close reception all time was very bad smell all the times. Also city tax here around 4.80 pp over night, (holiday package was written less) All in all we wasn't happy there, do not use again and can't recommend for anyone
Excellent room with a walk-in shower. Huge basin and toilet. We were let down by a receptionist who told us to catch a number 14A bus from St Marco. After watching 4 number 14s pass but no number 14A came, I phoned the hotel and was told number 14 was the right bus. But the hotel was great with comfortable lounge containing a grand piano. Good choices for breakfast. Doesn't do any other meals but there is a restaurant nearby. We ate in.the city.
A well appointed hotel. Good spacious room. Just too big a trek from the the centre for us, particularly due to tight timescales on a short city break with so much to see. All our excursions were from the train station, and a taxi there cost 20-25 Euros.
Nice hotel shame it is so far out of the centre. It took us about 30-40 minutes to walk to centre. Staff not so friendly on reception as used to. Rooms good, comfortable beds and warm. Breakfast good. Would use again.
Hotel came as a package here and Venice. The deal was cheap so probably reflected in what you get. Firstly, the hotel is 20 mins from centre but on a regular bus route 14 with stop near hotel. The area is a bit run down and depressing. From outside the hotel looks like a 60s block and inside similar. The room was ok except for the mosquitos which they unsuccessfully sprayed. Bathroom ok but a bit knocked about. Lift utilitarian. Dining room was quite pleasant and staff helpful. Offerings were mostly cold except boiled and scrambled eggs. Hot drinks were from a machine that sounded like the Apollo launch pad when in use! They did bring us a pot for tea which was better. Did not try the bar. There is no restaurant but they advertise one around the corner which was good. I guess you get what you pay for. I much preferred the Venice hotel which was part of the package. This place okay if you are on a tight budget but you definitely won't be overwhelmed here.
Stayed 3 nights in Hotel Grifone when spending a lovely long weekend in beautiful Firenze in Oct 2017. It s about 20 mins walk from the centre but it is not issue at all as multiple ways can be chosen including a nice walk near the river Arno - and the best way to discover a city is by walking isnt it? However closest stop of bus nr 14 going to the centre and the train station is just one corner. Staff was very friendly and helpful, room was clear and tidy, equipped with everything (hairdryer, shampoo, shower gel etc) needed for staying in a room just to sleep there. Temperature was ok, doublebed was convenient. Two things I would mention may need some improvement: continental breakfast may include more hot food (not just boiled egg), and the free wifi was very unstable, couldnt use for a long time despite that staff tried to help somehow. In overall, it was a pleasant stay, good price/value hotel in a quiet part of Firenze.
