My husband and I recently stayed at Hotel Basilea for four nights and had a wonderful stay. Firstly we must commend the front of desk staff Eva and Albert who looked after us so professionally and with such great hospitality, friendliness and support for us as travellers. It is such a delight to be greeted by staff who have a positive approach to their customers and obviously the hospitality industry. It helps make our travelling journey all the more enjoyable. We arrived before the check in time but there was no problem in being able to leave our luggage at reception while we went out exploring. Guests should be aware that this is a very good value hotel, it is not expensive. The location is excellent, very close to the main railway station and you can walk easily to many of the wonderful Florence sights. The fresh food market is very close by and worthy of a visit. You do not have a need for the hop on hop off bus system. The room while basic was very pleasant. It was large, clean, with good light and a large window. Our bathroom had been renovated and was very pleasant. The room was serviced daily and maintained well. While we looked over a street it was not noisy at all. The breakfast must also be complimented. There were fresh fruits, a range of pastries, cheese and ham, juices, and an egg dish. While often there were many people in the breakfast room the staff were always present looking after the supplies. We would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Florence.
The receptionist Dirar was fabulous. He helped me with the room's temperature and gived me breakfast in early morning. You find the hotel near the railway station, is in a good point of the city near the best attraction. Thank you very much!
We stayed at the hotel with our students, who were not allowed to go out after 11 pm and drink alkohol. Unfortunately, another group (also a Danish group) did not have ANY RULES WHATSOEVER. They came back to the hotel very drunk and loud and left chewing gum on the floor in the lobby. Unfortunately, the staff was unaware of which group were loud and which group was not. Therefore, we were also warned about the problems connected with the group. My room was very dark (no daylight could enter the room) but it was a (more or less) clean room and a very clean matress (I checked). I saw NO bugs whatsoever. The hotel had a very varied and nice breakfast buffet with scrambled eggs (nice taste), good bread, fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries and good coffee and coco. The staff was very nice, also the cleaners. The hotel is being renovated, which is a good idea. The hotel is close to the centre and is close to everything. You get what you pay for.
This hotel is in a prime location just a short walk from the centre of beautiful Florence. Great places to eat and drink are all around. Sadly it's a bit of a dump I'm afraid: the room felt dirty and poorly presented, the breakfast was sub standard, and anyone any bigger than me would have struggled to fit into the shower cubicle ( the shower wasn't much good either). I don't normally write negative reviews, but I advise you to try somewhere else in Florence. There's no shortage.
It has a great location. I think it was 5 minutes walk from Santa Maria Novella. We stayed for 3 nights and we didn't have any problems. The receptionists were very kind helping us with the information about the city and streets. The WiFi sometimes didn't work well. The AC was ok and the breakfast was good. We had some problems to open the window but it's nothing you can't deal with. Still, we had a good stay.
Today i had some free time from the vacation and why not to used for some reviews! Just now i am reading the bad reviews about this hotel and I am very amazed with all this bad reviews. We stayed here for 4 nights and we found ourselves very well. Great location, ten minutes walk from the SMN. The receptionists were helpful about everything and really kind, with many information about the city! They gave to us a discount of 10% for two nice restaurant near by.The WiFi sometimes dind't work so well! I had the room 218 which had the doumo's view. The air conditioning it worked well but sometimes it was a little bit noisy, nothing to worry about! Best wished from James.
The worst hotel we have ever been. Location good, but hotel is totaly old, damaged furnishing, unclean, only cold water ... Please read reviews before booking it. Big disappointment - absolutely no 3 stars!!!
This hotel is total disaster and only benefits from its location. The guy at front desk was very rude and didnt speak much english. He didnt tell us where is the breakfast and on all our questions he just said something italian that meant he doesnt understand and then he just refused to communicate with us. When I asked for a manager or someone who speaks english he said that no manager or anyone else is present and he cant help me. When I get in the room I was totally shocked how it looked like and how dirty it was. 1) There was mold in the bathroom which is big health hazard and room full of dust and dirty. Most of the things were broken in there. 2) The was still housekeeping lady in the room who talked to us italian so we didnt have a clue what she was talking about, and same problem is with other hotel staff, they barely speak english. 3) The safe in the room is not fixed in the wardrobe so anyone can take it 4)There is no hot water!!! 5)The Wi-Fi connection is not available so we had to surf via our mobile data because the network they provide is not accessible 6) Later in the afternoon I told all these problems to the other front desk lady and asked for a manager again she also said that there is no manager. So I said that I want a clean room.Later some lady knocked on our room and told us something in italian language which we didnt understand! So she took us to other room where wasnt an AC, so I refused to move there because without AC in 38C people cant sleep. That was all action they made no one was bothered to deal with our issue and the front desk lady didnt even say an appology or had any intension to come upstairs and inform us!! This absolutely doesnt equal to 3star hotel service. This is like a hostel. No one will care about you, unless you are italian. With italian guests they communicate. They said that this is absolutely normal and hotel is in perfect condition - see my pictures which I took there , absolutely disgusting. In the end I refused to pay my reservation and walked away and stayed in another hotel Mercure which is nearby.
Our friends reserved this for us. The online price could not be beat (85 euros for 2 rooms for one night). I wish I would have checked tripadvisor first. You get what you pay for! Positive: Great front desk service. Clean. Nice breakfast variety (pastries, eggs, cereal, fruit), free wifi Negative: window did not shut properly. The place is so dated. It is beaten up. The new laminate floors were badly installed with gaps everywhere. No hot water for the shower. It's a shame because with a make-over, this place has the potential to become a beautiful hotel.
We stayed 4 nights. The location was great: Within 5 to 10 minutes walk, there was outside market which sold the leather products and some souvenirs, the city market (it had a food court at 2nd fl), and you can see the Duomo just there from the market. There is a coin-operated laundry store near the hotel and it was helpful that there was an ATM machine at the entrance of the hotel. The room was facing to the street so it was a bit noisy. I think the room on the garden side must be quieter. We couldn't find an open table at the breakfast and not so much food were left (the breakfast started 7:30am but we were there after 8am) since the group of high school students in Europe were also staying at this hotel. You can have your own coffee and juice from the machine. There were ham, cheese, toast, sweet pastry, kiwi. Wifi was limited to the area near the elevator in 2nd floor or reception area. The people working the desk were very kind and helpful.
