Lack of food quality with one restaurant. Kids menu is the same for lunch and dinner and with only 6 items, really old and tired. No options, kids should have choices too. Meals are below par and expensive. Accommodation is NOT luxury, view would be nice if the beach wasn't full of rubbish and debris. Swim in the pool at your own risk, and.... for God's sake, don't drink the water as we didn't except that I and my daughter's rinsed our toothbrushes and we all still have diarrhoea 4 days later. The kids have both vomited as well.
My Husband, myself & our 6 year old daughter stayed here on our ‘Familymoon’! After a long 23 hours of travelling all the way from England- omg, we arrived in paradise! The hotel is just breathtaking, we love to travel.....& this is & will probably for a very long time still be my favourite place. If you like us, are coming with a child/children don’t worry- our little girl had the time of her life. She loved joining in all the activities & the hotel amenities were perfect for all three of us. The hotel also arranged excursions for us- zip lining through the jungle, Robinson Crusoe Island & also spending the day on a private island, fiji & the people are just beautiful!! We would come back here in a heartbeat!! I recommend this hotel to everyone & will continue to do so! On our way home we stayed at Disney Land Anaheim & although we also had a lovely time there, our daughter still thinks Fiji is the “best holiday ever”
All it has is a nice room and some friendly staffs. It is very inconvenient. It is far away from everything (30min drive to Denararu or Nadi town). The restaurant food is below average yet you won’t have any other option unless you can bother to go out of boat ride (which is short but still an extra hassle) and 30min car ride in a dark. The road is not great and it is pitch-black at night. The pool is full of kids. There is no beach and you can’t go into the ocean (it looked like sewage rather than ocean). Again, the room itself is nice but housekeepers were not great. We stayed here for 5 nights. Everyday housekeeper forgot to clean or replace something. Our room dining dish was still there one day, a used cup never replaced and stayed on a table for 3 days, empty shampoo and conditioner bottles are left on the floor, no drinking water was left in the room although it was supposed to be everyday. On our last day, we were in rush as we had a flight to catch. We called the front desk to send a golf cart for luggages as it was raining really heavy and it is quite a walk so the hotel delivers the luggages using the golf cart. However, we waited more than 35min. I called the front desk 4 times. They kept saying it was coming. Later I heard two different stories by other staffs (1) no driver was on duty (2) there is an issue with the cart. Then that’s what the front desk was supposed to tell us instead of constantly lying to us!! We couldn’t waste our time any longer because of our flight, we ended up running with our luggages in heavy rain
When we checked in there was a long delay. Reason being, they changed our room due to some flooding and it was my wife’s birthday / our anniversary trip. I requested a cake and champagne for our room and it was taken care of. Vicky checked us in and was very accommodating. Jone escorted us to our room and was extremely nice. Anna was our housekeeper and she was excellent. The security manager also took care of us to assure we could go our for dinner near Denarau. There were more staff members that provided excellent customer service by we can’t recall their names. Also my wife had a spa package done which she raved about. Very good at what they do! This trip so far ranks up there in all our travels. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Fiji.
The front desk is a disorganized mess. The limited food is awful. The beach is gone due to the cyclone and the pool is full of kids and no one makes them follow the rules. There was NO drinking water available unless you went and bought your own in the shop.
My late partner and I stayed here twice when it was Sonaisali Island Resort and I was keen to go back. Thankfully it was exactly as I remember it from 2003 & 2007, except the addition of a second restaurant with the tables on the sand, under the stars. A fabulous pool with a swim-up bar. The restaurant is very good and features a buffet as well as a la carte. The grounds are beautiful and maintained with pride and care. Double tree is only about half an hour from the airport from where you turn right instead of left if you were going to Denarau and you get to the island by means of a 2-3 minute boat ride. Of course the staff are brilliant, from the moment you meet the boatmen, through reception, to the bars and restaurants as well as housekeeping and groundsmen. A big shout out to Laisa and her housekeeping colleagues. Laisa was so kind, smiling and friendly and made sure the room was A1. A tip I would make is to check alternative travel dates as the prices at high demand times (Easter, Labour Weekend, school holidays etc) are significantly higher. Double Tree on Sonaisali is one of my favourite destinations and I highly recommend it for solo, couples and families.
Request to change the dates because of Cyclone / Flooding, but they refused to change the dates and pretty much kept all money. Tried to call there phone number and email address but they didn't care to change.
We stayed in a King Bure with an ocean view. The room was excellent and spotlessly clean. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The grounds of the resort are immaculate wtih the paths constantly swept and any rubbish instantly removed. We elected the full B/L/D package with the happy hour drinks option. The food, particularly in the buffet, is in abundance and good quality although it is only warm and not hot (other than the pizzas). The service in the restaurant is excellent with only a short wait for ordered meals and staff willing to help with any request. The dining room is large and never feels cramped with people and has a great view over the pool and the ocean. The drinks package between 5pm and 6pm offers a choice of beers and wine and there is plenty of it so make the most of it. The pool is large enough not to feel crowed and the swim up bar is an excellent feature. The hotel provides towels at the pool. A couple of things to bear in mind is that Fiji is very hot and humid so only take light clothes. Also being on an island there are a lot of sand flies which also fly into the restaurant so take some sort of repellant spray to avoid bites. The only draw back was the price of alcohol. It is extremely expensive at the resort. If you want to have a few beers or wine I suggest you buy it at the super market at the intersection into the resort or at one of the Liquor Land stores on the way to the resort. You will find the beer is less than half the price and the wine up to 5 times cheaper than at the resort. Drinking cocktails at the resort will empty your wallet very quickly. Other than that it is a wonderful place to stay and the minute boat trip across running 24 hours a day is very novel.
Beautiful, well-kept gardens, nice, spacious room, very friendly and accommodating staff, good service in the restaurant and pretty good food, selection of activities and plenty of music! nice pool area with plenty of beds etc. Let down by housekeeping over our 6 day stay; room not cleaned until 4:00 every day bar one - we don't live with unmade beds all day at home and not too keen on doing it on holiday. Shampoo etc not replaced often - best to take your own. Luckily everything else contributed to a good holiday and you won't find nicer staff anywhere.
Good points. The staff are lovely, smiley, happy and try to be as helpful as possible and good fun. The rooms are large and spacious and so is the bathroom, with plenty of storage space. The balcony is large and a great place to watch the amazing sunsets. You do come away feeling very relaxed and in ‘Fiji time’ but bear this mind when you go to get something to eat as although the service is very friendly it is very slow especially when you are hungry. The food is ok when it comes and quite large portion sizes too,and if you don’t want a full breakfast the little coffee shop does a small bacon and egg muffin with a coffee for £10 dollars. Bad points. The beach is pretty much non-existent. It’s quite a small hotel and so there is only the bar, restaurant and pool area to go to at night. It’s on an island and therefore quite isolated. You can’t just walk out and use the local shops and restaurants and there is a problem with the taxis. We wanted one on the meter which the resident taxi driver would not do and wanted £50 dollars to take us to the marina on Denerau island,so we asked reception to order one for us which they did as we had asked the previous day at the marina how much it would be and they said £25 dollars. When we crossed from the island a taxi driver wanted to know why we weren’t going with him and we explained we had one booked already. There was a problem with the hotel letting our taxi driver through into the hotel to pick us up so we walked down the road to meet him. Part way down the other taxi driver followed us and shouted at us through his window for using another taxi service, saying they were dangerous and if they let one in they would have to let all of them in, we replied perhaps if he reduced his prices considerably we would have been happy to use him. He then continued on to our waiting taxi and threatened him never to come near the hotel again. We considered complaining to the hotel about him as if it was true that the ordered taxi was dangerous then perhaps they shouldn’t have ordered it for us, but we had no issues with our driver and didn’t want the bother really on holiday. We had similar issues on our departure with a different taxi driver at the hotel also being aggressive, so please bear this in mind if you choose to do the same. Housekeeping was ok for changing sheets and towels and emptying bins but they didn’t seem to do much else apart from the obligatory towel art, and so we were short on toiletries and towels quite often and the surfaces never got dusted or wiped as the same coffee rings were still there when we left 9 days later. I am sure if we had complained something might have changed but it wasn’t such a big deal as you start to realise everything is in Fiji time and slow down yourselves.
