Aquarius on the Beach3.0 out of 5.0

A great place to get your feet in the sand and listen to the sound of the ocean on your first night in Fiji. The bus transfer for the boat to the Yasawa’s leaves right out front, but you need to ‘advise’ the pick up location when you book the boat transfers.
We stayed in room 11 on the second floor and loved it! We had a fabulous view of the beach! The room was comfortable with a king bed and decent shower. The only negatives was the door going out to the patio didn't slide and was hard to open/close. Told management so hopefully they get a new door installed. There really was no place to put your suitcase except on the floor or the bedside table which if you did that you couldn't use the table for your phone/book etc, and the water temp in the shower was hard to control. It tended to run hot and then cold and then hot. But the friendliness of the staff, the quietness of the property, and location made up for those downfalls. We would totally stay there again!!! 2 other motels were located in the same area and all three had a bar, a restaurant, and souvenir shops, each with a different atmosphere. Aquarius was the most quiet which we appreciated. Great beach with hammocks, picnic tables, and lounge chairs. The beach isn't the clearest water due to the harvesting of the coral in the bay for the airport years ago, but it was still swimmable. A great restaurant called Awesome Grill with organic food is a short 5 min walk away along with a small supermarket. Free breakfast was available each morning at the Aquarius - a nice touch and not a common find across New Zealand, Australia, nor Fiji.
We stayed three times within October at Aquarius on the Beach, for two days initially, then one day each other occasion between visits to the Yasawas and Suva. Aquarius is close to Nadi Airport but IS literally on the Beach! The two things which make this hotel fabulous are its location and its staff, all of whom, without exception are very friendly, efficient and go out of their way to way your stay special. Aquarius is an older property with what feels like every nook and cranny converted into guest accommodation. Sadly, a lot of higher rise building nearby is likely in the near future to end up overlooking this gem of a hotel. The Polynesian dancing and themed dinned on Friday was fun!
We've just stayed about 10 days at Aquarius and it exceeded our expectations for a low budget hotel. The food was great and better than what you get in most of Denarau's hotel for half the price. We had the Deluxe room which was clean and big enough for two adults + 2 kids, very quiet at night and with good working air-conditioning. The staff was amazing, very friendly and always helpful. The location is great with direct access to the beach with natural sand (not the rough "coral sand" you'll find in some other places on the main island). Not close to the nicest remote islands beaches but good enough for kayaking, a walk in the morning and a play with the kids. Not the cleanest beach either but good enough again for the main island. The swimming pool was clean and with enough shade so can be enjoyed most of the day. Daily tours are easy to arrange with trip to the marina in Denarau about 15 minutes drive away. Not many negatives but two: hot water pressure in the shower was always low and hot/cold water was hard to manage. The wifi lacks reliability with the signal not accessible in many areas within the hotel, also cutting off quite often. If looking for a budget accommodation on the main island, this place will be hard to beat. Is it worse spending more for the Denarau like hotels? Based on the food itself, no and not for the location either although the rooms will be nicer there. Highly recommended in any case!
My sister and I recently spent 5 days at this hotel and had a great time thanks to the friendly helpful staff. Special call outs to Vili, Ili, Salote, Mele and Pauli. Whilst most people call this a transit hotel we were happy with the location and the bus at the door to get around. There is also a corner store about 5 minutes walk away. The sunsets in the evening are amazing and most nights we sat and watched the world go by. We had no trouble being picked up for a couple of tours even though we weren't staying at the bigger resorts. As previously mentioned by others, the rooms are quite small, however big enough for a bed and ensuite. Not sure what more you need in a room on vacation, especially when all rooms have a balcony or courtyard!! There are a couple of backpacker places along the beach but there was never any noise or reason for concern. The clean pool, beach access, hammocks, location and choice of 3 breakfast options would ensure we would return. If i had to find any negative it would be the water pressure in the shower but that's island life!
The hotel has great food, wonderful evening staff (Paul!), and a beautiful dining and pool area. The rooms however need a face-lift, considering its not cheap: very outdated and a bit grungy and dirty, although I am sure the staff keeps them as clean as can be - the rooms are just so old and outdated and the a/c efficiency varies by room. The beach is clean, but the sand has a greyish color (not the hotels fault) and the water is silty - its a decent 1 night stay option, but dont stay longer. Better options next door. Internet is free but very poor, couldnt use it. Overall its small, and relatively quiet.
The hotel is quaint and relaxed along the Nadi Bay. However at the time of visiting Nadi Bay doesn't have too much going on. Most of the hotels along this stretch of beach are used primarily as short stop offs when arriving or leaving with the bulk of the visit spent on the smaller islands. If that is the case then this hotel is a great place to stay for the short term. The rooms were clean and air conditioned, a sea view room would be a good option if you can. In terms of food one of the other hotels offered much cheaper options for small lunches. Overall however the staff were lovely and helpful who couldn't do enough for us, the breakfasts were superb and we had a lovely short stay here. I would also recommend booking the transfer from the airport with the hotel as it is only $14 , which is cheaper than a normal taxi.
We stayed two nights here as a stopover to break our journey to LA. We were really impressed with this hotel. Let me say that you have to put things into perspective in Fiji. Firstly, all hotels in Nadi are really only transit hotels, you don't stay in these hotels for a week as your final destination holiday of your dreams stuff. They are meant to give you a rest and break your journey. Secondly, despite this hotel being described as a backpacker hotel, I would say, the only reason for that is that it does have dorm rooms, beyond that, it does not resemble what I would think of as a backpacker. I am 60 and I would have hated the rowdy drunken crowd that can be a backpacker mentality. This hotel is homey, quiet ( they do play music during the day and evening over the speakers but it's good music). All music stops at 10pm. Thirdly, the rooms are fab. We stayed in 5 which was upstairs with a view over the beach and a huge deck. The room is simple and a little dated, but clean and has a fridge. They have renovated some rooms at the back and they are fabulous, I would happily stay in any of those. There are a few upstairs rooms which are smaller and dated. On the plus side- the place is small, clean, the staff unbelievably helpful and friendly, the manager is always on site at some point during the day and chats to you at breakfast etc, I find that important and impressive. He is also a fab guy. There is a very clean small pool, and direct access to the beach. The only things you may need to keep in mind are: You can't bring in booze etc to consume as they charge you a hefty surcharge, the beach is great for walking on and dipping your toes but it's not really a swimming, relaxing beach, not white sand but black. Finally, my only criticism is the food. We were underwhelming by the chicken curry, it was watery and devoid of flavour. If they were to smarten up the menu and improve the cooking it would really make a huge difference. As it was we ate at the two restaurants either side of the hotel, one is open 24 hours! We will definitely use this hotel again and will book direct with them to ensure we get our favourite room. I suggest you do the same.
We stayed for two nights and had a lovely time thanks to the helpful staff who really light the place up with their smiles! Nothing was too much trouble for them. Basic rooms, very clean and tidy - we also really enjoyed the atmosphere, food (and the company of Sarah the hotel cat!)
After attending a wedding on the Coral coast we were looking for a well priced place to stay for a few days before an early morning flight. I stayed in the deluxe room which is the one in the photo. The rooms are clean, spacious and the beds are comfortable. The hotel is right on the beach and the sunsets from there are to die for. A very affordable comfortable place to stay. The staff are amazing, so friendly and accommodating ensuring your stay is a happy one. Very happy to recommend this hotel
