I visited this hotel for business, taking the Queen Mary conference room. Upon arrival it was a little chaotic, I had a lot of equipment and it seemed there was only one lady who had keys to the conference centre and so I had to wait for her to get there before I could get in. Eventually another member of staff took me in through the back entrance so I could get ready. After that it was all plain sailing though. The room was spacious, light and clean with a great view. My delegates all said how lovely the room and hotel were and we all had an enjoyable two days together. I didn't get the opportunity to stay overnight, however, this location is now on my "hit list" of places to come back too for a leisure break.
We came here for a one night stay. Put it this way we won't be staying at this hotel again. The reception staff were nice and it was a quick check in. Our room overlooked the car park which wasn't the greatest view but I was glad we weren't overlooking the very busy Adventure Island, so it was a nice quiet room. Breakfast was ok, not the biggest selection in the world and not enough seating but the quality of the food was good. This is where our positive experience ends with this hotel. On entry to the room it stunk of cigarette smoke and the bathroom stunk of sewage. The cleanliness of the room was awful. The bathroom had stains all over it, the plug hole had hair and gunk down it, there was paint on the floor, dust and cobwebs everywhere and underneath my bedside table the Bible was literally stuck due to something sticky on the surface. The bed was rock hard, it had a thin sheet and then the mattress (no protector) so goodness knows the stains on there and the pillows were awfully thin. This is not what we expected from £190 per night! I feel this hotel needs to look at the upkeep of its rooms if it's going to charge this price. Premier Inn next time.
The hotel itself was comfy and for the family trip we had planned was quite adequate. The room itself could have been a little bit cleaner with quite a few of the previous guests belongings found under the beds. The sofa bed that had been made up for our children (Family room) fell apart as we tried to move it to clean up but the kids thought it was great and did sleep very well on it. It was also cruise night on the sea front so beware the noise that goes on until at least 12 midnight. The breakfast buffet was superb and my kids loved helping themselves to bacon and egg muffins and all the other tasty things on offer. Never seen them eat so much (ages 4 and 6).
We booked for our anniversary I asked for a room with sea view and balcony and did get what I wanted. The room was a bit shabby with stains on the carpet and mildew on the tiles in the shower. Otherwise not too bad. The location was excellent Right on top of the attractions and pier with the adventure playground. Excellent shopping and places to eat. I asked for proseco and chocolates to be in the room as a surprise for my partner and they forgot. When they remembered they sent it up and gave it to us complimentary. Dinner in the restaurant was good but breakfast was a bit chaotic but good choices to eat. I would go again as the location is excellent but I would ask them to get rid of the mildew and stain on carpet it would be perfect if not for that.
This is my 6 th stay at this hotel Still very comfortable clean and friendly staff room looking a bit tired And pillows poor quality Did not have breakfast very handy for shopping and exploring Southend car park is opposite the hotel and good value Will stay again Mike
Very average hotel with very average restaurant. We had a lovely view of the pier which was our highlight. Staff were very friendly and helpful but we were disappointed in the food. Breakfast was a real let down
Stayed here last week- 2 nights/3days. Myself, wife and young daughter in a family room. Apparently the building was converted into this hotel approximately 3 or 4 years ago, so everything is still pretty new which is a bonus. Importantly the hotel, and in particular our room was clean. Basic, but functional and being a family room it was a good size. A couple of small issues upon arrival- the TV remote didn't work and the room safe had been left with the door open in the locked position, so needed re-setting before we could use it. A quick chat with the friendly receptionist on our way out resulted in these issues being resolved by the time we returned to our room later, so all good. We had a double bed and then also a double sofa bed. I slept in the sofa bed as I visited the excellent casino next door on both nights, which resulted in me coming in quite late- I must say this sofa bed was soooo thin you could easily feel the springs digging into your back. I didn't sleep well at all on both nights. It might be ok for younger, lighter children to use, but definitely not ideal for adults. We were woken very early on both mornings by our neighbours on either side having showers- nothing unusual in that, BUT all the showers here emit a very loud shrill noise when on low pressure- turn the shower on full and it disappears, but anything less and the noise is awful and wakes everyone up in the corridor. Please address this issue, as I am sure it is a simple fix that would make so much difference to the enjoyment of the hotel. We stayed on a b&b basis, so didn't eat in the hotel in the evenings- just had breakfast, which was OK. Not a great choice, but enough to get by. I must say the sausages were of an excellent quality and taste. The scrambled egg however, was pretty much inedible. The staff in the restaurant were very polite, and a credit to the hotel. Just wish certain fellow guests would realise wandering around comsuming your breakfast in your ill fitting nightwear and slippers in not the done thing! There is a bar, which I frequented for a quick pint. I found it to be not the ideal place to relax and unwind in the evening. It just wasn't very cosy and inviting, and reminded me of a 'social club' Hotel is in an excellent location, with the beach and pier to the front and the shopping town centre to the rear. Parking for the hotel is provided by the multi storey car park shared with the shopping centre. Cost us £28 to park during our stay, so can work out expensive. Would we stay here again? Yes is the answer- providing they sort the showers out!
20 plus ladies from our Monday Club had afternoon tea today and I was very disappointed. There was a very short supply of sandwiches. Three finger size sandwiches per person and very little variety. The tea was disgusting. It was grey, not Earl grey , just grey and flavourless. When they brought extra tea round it was obvious the pots had just been topped up with water and that's what it looked like. Grey water. The scones with jam and cream were nice although there wasn't enough cream to go round. Cupcakes were sloppy and not tasty. The service wasn't good as , when we asked for more sandwiches, the staff just stood and looked at us helplessly. All together a very disappointing experience . I will never go there again.
My First trip to Southend On Sea and stayed at park inn hotel it was very nice staff were helpful and willing to assist you But My son wished the had SKY tv as was not happy with the tv channels, THink Grill should stay open till late as 9.30 is early as the only thing to eat is fish and chips in restaurants and some of the fish is oil in fish Would go back if get a chance
Window broken and propped open by a towel on arrival. Managed to close window after removing towel. Upon opening window next morning, the bottom sliding window came out of the frame and my boyfriend was left holding it in his hands, as this was a 'family room', I'm appalled that this heavy window could've fallen out on a child?! Avoid room 415! Cleanliness of room and bathroom overall not up to scratch. Breakfast 'passable'. Pier facing rooms suffer a lot from noise pollution from Adventure island and the road. Vending machine out of order. Tv screen on the small side. Sofa bed very uncomfortable and creeky, every time my son moved on it the creaking woke me up! Sofa itself filthy and tired looking with cushion edges ripped. Stains on carpets. Stain on bed cover. Hairs and pube on shower floor. Light behind bed making a dubious buzzing noise each time turned on?! Left room on a hot day, so left aircon on, came back to find aircon switched off after someone had entered our room whilst we were gone?! Informed reception when checking out regards to the window, they apologised. Let's hope they fix the window before the next occupants suffer the same problem! Location of this hotel is great, can't fault that.
