I had one of the renovated rooms and they are quite nice and well appointed with refrigerator, iron/ironing board, coffee maker etc. The king bed was particularly comfortable. Only negative is that the sound proofing is not great. I was in room 433 and the staff station was a few doors down. You could hear them clearly when they started the morning shift at 8AM. You can also hear guests come and go as doors slam. Close proximity to walk to shopping district (10-15 min walk) and subway is steps away. I would recommend this hotel especially for business but only if you don’t plan to sleep in.
Got one of the renovated suites and really liked it. Also, the internet speed is fantastic now. The lounge amazing as usual, offering full dinner and the breakfast was also very good. Parking is 13 Euro. The downside of this hotel is the absence of a good gym or pool. It's 10 min walk from train station and city center. Will come back!
Good service; they knew we were there 5 years ago and had a Nice surprise on our upgraded room!! Good location, near centre: good for christmas market Nice and complete breakfast Nice bar. Recommend :)
I stayed only a one night because of the Christmas market which is in walking distance from the hotel. We we're upgraded to a suite on arrival which was a nice gesture. Check-in was swift and friendly and we got a room on the second floor. The elevator is a disaster. Two people barely fit (no joke) and with large luggage it's impossible and you need to go one person at the time. Just a fair warning. The room was nice and had a little living room with desk. The minibar had some refreshments which we're all included. Some fruit arrived after a while as well. The bedroom is spacious and the bed comfortable. Bathrobes and slippers in the room available. The bathroom is very nice and has all amenities you need. A bath with combined shower and enough space. The bar area downstairs is large and we had a very nice waiter who made a friendly talk. Breakfast is also downstairs and has a lot of choice, eggs can be prepared by the chef who has his little counter. Parking for the car is below the hotel and you pay 13E per day which is quit reasonable. One remark; please turn the heaters low in the hotel because it was extremely warm.
This hotel is right next to the Philharmonie, which is very practical if you are visiting a concert. The hotel was clean and quiet. The breakfast buffet was ample and the amenities are o.k. The major gripe is that there is no free wifi in the room. You have to go to the lobby for that. Otherwise it costs 14€/day! Amazing that a luxury hotel chain like Sheraton still lives in the Stone Age in that regard. A major disadvantage!
I spent 6 months at this hotel on business, and as an SPG Platinum member I was able to experience the best sides of this property. The first impression I had of this hotel is of an overall building design that clearly shows that it is from a different era and areas of the hotel just looking & feeling correspondingly dated. All clean and well maintained in general...but dated. Another first impression, and one that is lasting, is that the fitness area is tiny, stocked with old cardio equipment and particularly a "strength" area that is very lacking. In short, atrocious and not at all on par with what many competitors offer these days. Finally, getting from the underground parking garage is a really cumbersome trek. One either needs to schlepp one's things down and up several flights of stairs or make due with a mini-elevator that must have been designed for asparagus body-types. Two is definitely company in that lift. All other initial impressions regarding room quality, amenities and services were on par with competing hotels, and to be very frank we shopped around aggressively in the early weeks of our stay to compare, stay at and do deals with other hotels. It was also in those early weeks that other and very positive aspects of this Sheraton emerged, which clearly differentiated them from their competitors and that ultimately led us to remain there for the duration. Indeed, it was love at 2nd sight. This hotel is doing well in continuously investing in the modernization of the property. The executive lounge on the top floor is a well-catered area that I often enjoyed visiting at different times of the day, and the sports-dilemma was easily sorted by plenty of professional fitness facilities in the vicinity of the hotel. Also, the newer, modernized rooms, which I found to always be on the park-side of the hotel, were simply well-designed and a pleasure to work and rest in. However, what really sets them apart was the consistently good service received across the different customer touch points. On this note, I want to particularly compliment Mr. Mohamad Kanaan, the concierge, and Mrs. Suzi Anar, the bartender, both of whom have been with this hotel for a very long time, and whose interactions with guests were impressive in their professionalism and their strong and authentic customer-service behavior on display. That was great. Would I return to this hotel for private and / or business stays. For sure! And I also recommend the Sheraton Essen to other road-warriors and long-term stayers as their preferred base in and around that region.
This hotel is wonderful. It's staffed well, managed well, it's clean, has a great bar and breakfast. It's a couple minutes from the hauptbahnhof (main train station) and has great restaurants surrounding it. I love a centrally located hotel that has parking for a large vehicle (15m). I look forward to staying again.
I was only here for the night, arrived late. The guy at reception was friendly and competent, even though it was the late. The room was comfy and clean. The hotel is well- located from the train station. (Rest I cannot comment on as not used.)
I had two day meetings in the building next door. The breakfast buffet was nice and the cappuccino was acceptable. The staff was very polite and attentive. My room had two double beds, which were comfortable. The bathroom was quite large, especially for Germany. The wifi cost money, so I did not use it.
