Mercure Hotel Duisburg City4.0 out of 5.0

We stayed there just last Saturday for one night. The hotel is very conveniently located in the city centre, next to a shopping centre and the High Street. So it was very easy to find a place to eat out. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit dated but it didn't bother us at all. My son really enjoyed the swimming pool which is free to all guests. Breakfast in the morning was really delicious, and the hotel staff made us feel very welcomed. I can highly recommend it.
We stayed for a few days in that hotel in Duisburg. The location is good, close to the city center, close to the main train station and close to the motorway. It was surprisingly quiet. The breakfast is good average, typical business hotel breakfast with buffet style self service. The free internet is incredible slow. FaceTime video is impossible to use and even downloading mail is a challenge. Surfing the web will test your patience. Unacceptable for a four star hotel. Last not least the daily challenge of getting up/downstairs. Just one elevator for a 5 floor hotel to be used by guests and service staff. We waited up to 10 minutes to get in. Resume: it was still worth the money (because it was a special offer). Even though next time I would probably pay a bit more and stay in another hotel close by (better internet, better breakfast and 2 elevators)
This hotel is situated in a shopping location. The 4 star rating is correct however this hotel is very hot inside and has a ventilation system which has been switched off by night so rooms are hot. Open windows Will have lots of noice. The employees are very nice. During breakfast it was very busy however the employees did a great job to make the kids and myself happy, they made warm chocolate for them and cleaned a table when iT was ready. We had a great stay
This hotel has smoking rooms, free wifi, parking in secure parking area next to the hotel 9 Euros per day, the hotel is in the city centre and next to shops and a shopping mall, The room was very clean and quite large, Kettle and flat screen television, good shower, Breakfast top class and staff very helpful ; so why only a four, air conditioning cannot be regulated from room and only one lift and this was very slow. oh and powdered milk for drinks would we stay here again, YES,YES,YES
We arrived pretty exhausted after a ten hour journey from home and were met with polite staff who spoke very good English. On the way to the elevator we noticed the sign for a sauna and pool and noted we'd like to try it later. We didn't have to bother because when we arrived at our room it was so hot it was an adequate substitute for any sauna. It was unbearable so we had to have the window open. Which led to the noise from the road below filling the room. We were so tired from our journey that we fell asleep. Upon waking we had a quick walk around the town but having read positive reviews decided to eat in the hotel dining room as it was getting late. We arrived only to be told that the bar area and restaurant were full and there was no space for us despite looking to have two or three spare tables. So a hastily arranged take away in the room was a last resort but delicious. The room itself was pleasant and clean. The tv had BBC news which always gets the thumbs up. The rest of our stay was pleasant enough. It was only a stopover en route to Poland so we didn't get to see much of Duisburg this time. For the price we paid would stay again.....so long as the room temperature was turned down to a manageable level. As an aside, the parking was 9 euros per day and pretty pain free.
The hotel is fine, although a little worn. We booked it prepaid at Accorhotels at a good price, and in this respect is was very good value for money. We only used it as stopover on our way to Paris, so I cannot say much about the location in the city. The kids liked the pool which is small but nice. The breakfast was really fine with a good selection and easily accessible even durin rush hour. We parked in the underground parking below the hotel at a 24-hour rate of 9 €.
Nice hotel in the city centre. We stayed for one night only. Our room was basic but there was everything we needed -good size ,toiletries etc.We ate in restaurant in the evening and the food was good although the menu is very limited .Breakfast was excellent
A nice hotel, quality service. Cozy small swimming pool that was great for the kids and a nice sauna. Excellent staff, always ready to help. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast buffet.
A standard Mecure hotel. Room clean and reasonably spacious. No noise from other rooms or the street. Breakfast buffet was extensive and enjoyable. Handy location a five minute walk from the station and also close to the town centre including the opera house.
My 6 night stay at the Mercure Hotel in Duisburg was my first time to stay at this chain, and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a good basic hotel, with the amenities needed by business travelers. The location was very convenient to work and I have no complaints about the staff. Breakfast was great each morning. The internet connection was fast and reliable...no issues at all. I stayed during a cold week, so I had no issues with the unusual air conditioning used by the hotel. Travelers staying at a warmer time might look at some reviews from that time for any comments regarding the air conditioning in the summer. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, and consider this chain in other cities.
