After a 13.5 hr all night flight room not available until 2pm, I can accept partial daily for not booking night prior. No amenities on Sunday and negligible customer service means I will be looking for other options for my 33 day stay in Essen.
Located minutes from the main transport interchange in the city and a good location for shopping & eating out in Essen. The staff were friendly and helpful in making recommendations for where to eat in the city. Basic Wifi is provided free of charge in all rooms, if you want a higher speed this can be provided for a surcharge. The restaurant was closed during my visit so I cannot comment on the quality or variety of food available in the hotel in an evening. Breakfast is buffet style (hot and cold options) and consistent with other hotels I have stayed at in Europe. The bed mattress was so stiff it felt like lying on a wooden board but this may no bother others. Service at the hotel bar in an evening was slow which was surprising given that there was never more than 2 people waiting to be served each time my friend or I went to the bar.
I arrived to this hotel for a short business trip in Essesn so I have stayed there for 3 nights. The best thing I can say about this hotel is the location, it's located right next to the central train station, it took me only 5 minutes to walk to the hotel with my trolley and it was only 7 minutes to walk from the hotel to the offices where I had meetings so it was perfect choice location wise. It also located right next to the main street where you can find all the restaurants and shopping areas and only 10 minutes to talk to the main shopping mall Limbecker Platz. Unfortunately, besides the great location all the rest attributes of this hotel are average and some are even poor. I was giving a room at the 6th floor and my window was facing the main road side and since the acoustic of the room is really bad you can literally hear every train that arriving the station, every car on the road and even every person who walk and make noise with his trolley, not to mention it was raining and the sound of the drops hitting the window also contributed the fact for not sleeping well and hear a lot of noise all the time and this was frustrating. The free WiFi that is given is not stable at all, doesn't work straight for more then 30 minutes and really slow, in fact you can barely even work with it so not to mention watch online streaming or whatever, really poor and slow service. The room is very small and even though I asked to clean the room every day and change my sheets and towels they just re-organize the rooms and keeping the same sheets and towel and I could easily recognize from the same dirt stinks on them. In the breakfast you can find an average breakfast, nothing special and not many variants especially for vegetarians but it's normal enough to have a fast breakfast. The staff speaks English and are really nice, although at the night shift there was one girl who didn't even sit in the reception and each time you call for her to come out and help she was having the face of doing you a favor which was really a shame as the others are nicer. The water pressure at the shower is not that strong and the hot water flow changes to cold and then back to hot all the time during the shower as it's not a stable pressure. The bar is located directly next to the reception so it's not feeling nice and better go out for a drink. For a short business trip this hotel is OK but if you have other choices I recommend to go somewhere else and if you still go there, ask a room with a window not facing the main street so you can at least have a good sleep.
Stayed 1 night on business. Checked in and was in my room within 5 minutes. Breakfast was good with a wide variety of the usual hot and cold options.Only complaint was the 2 single beds in my room - I am a tall man and usually sleep in a double - I wasn't asked at check in if I had a preference. Staff were very helpful and I was checked out and paid in about 2 minutes the next morning. Parking is located at the back of the hotel and is free - don't forget to ask for your token on the way out.
Room was the most basic offered. Had 2 comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, travel safe, as well as a small workspace. We did not test the television. View of the city was...not great, but we didn't plan on being there very long. For the price, it had everything we needed and more. Included breakfast was incredible, and puts American hotels to shame. Free wifi was offered, as well as paid wifi if you need higher speed. The free version was more than enough for netflix streaming to our tablet. The staff was very friendly, and spoke German and English well. We also got a city public transport card. Location is very close to the train station, so it was very convenient for us.
The prices are good and the hotel is within walking distance of the shopping area and train station. They offer parking for 15 euro per day. We didn't pay extra for breakfast as we got up late but there are enough places to eat in the neighbourhood. Loved it and would definitely recommend this hotel.
The main benefit is that it is a short walk from the station. The hotel is functional and nothing special. a disappointing aspect is that is you want to eat in your room, you have to carry the tray up from the restaurant. room service will not help.
Conveniently located near the Essen main trainstation (not even 5' walk) Clean and quiet room despite the proximity of the tracks Breakfast was not included in the rate but is worth spending Shower has ample hot water
Intercity get it... I was a little dubious as it is often available when everywhere else is full which to be honest is why I stayed there this time. The check-in was seem-less and the staff welcoming. There is a lounge area and small bar adjoining the reception desk some tall bar tables and stools. For me it didn't have much of an atmosphere but then I was there on my own and I don't like that set up. If there was more of a dedicated bar area then I would have rated 5 stars. The room is really nice, the chrome is polished, bed is ok, all appears relatively new and fresh better than a lot of higher priced hotels, hair dryer is OK not the best certainly not the worst. I didn't eat lunch or dinner there but they do have a restaurant. They do a good breakfast again a lot better than other more prestigious hotels in the area I have stayed in. I travel weekly and will certainly go back again. Nice work - Intercity
Considering that the hotel had no free parking, no breakfast included, flakey internet, no pool, rooms that weren't that great with no tea making facilities, and receptionists that looked to be on the permanent blob, it was grossly overpriced.
