A small, very quiet place to stay with mainly business clientel - not a particularly good 'holiday' spot if you want the beach and entertainment. Within walking distance of a super market and regular shuttles into Port Vila. Staff are capable and friendly food is good.
Tropicana lagoon is a great place to stay if your looking for low key and self contained rooms this is it! Great if you want to save $$ and cook in some nights, breakie was included and was delicious hot or cold style cooked to your liking ! 10-15 mins out of town easy to get buses on the road, close to a supermarket, rooms were clean, wifi was ok, staff=amazing and friendly! Great place for families or couples we did loads of day trips out while there and it was awesome to come back to a quiet tropical chilled vibe at night
Very disappointed with this hotel. It is nothing like the picture you see in the brochures and the internet. We had the 2 bedroom beach front villa. The beachfront is not like the brochures at all. You cannot swim where this hotel is located. The sea has very strong currents. It was very noisy with lots of dogs barking and rosters squawking in the middle of the night keeping us up. The room itself was good but very run down and cleanliness could have been better. The bathroom would get flooded with water after you had a shower (Bad drainage). Mirrors were rusty, paint was peeling off the wall. Breakfast was very disappointing we had it included however all that was included was fruit which was minimal and toast. Tea, coffee & juice. Anything else was extra even cereal. For the money I paid to stay at this place I expected more. But in saying all that employees were helpful to the best of their ability and friendly.
I spent almost 3 months staying at the Tropicana in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Except for some very spotty internet service, my time there was most enjoyable. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and I do miss seeing them every day. If you are looking for a comfortable, out of the way place to use as your base in Vanuatu, I do recommend staying at the Tropicana Resport.
We booked here for a couple of nights. Unfortunately the weather was poor during our stay so we did not get to relax in the resort. However we found that the resort did not meet our needs. Although the bus service is easy to use and cheap we found the resort far out of town for us. There was only a couple of other guest during our stay so the place wasn't 'humming' with atmosphere. This place may suit someone who likes a slow pace. Our booking included breakfast but this was really disappointing.
This one is right near town, just on the outskirts and its amazing! I found this one to be so quiet. The staff where so incredible and made me feel like I was in a 5 star hotel. I have never seen so many star fish (in the lagoon) in my life!!! I had free use of the kayaks and it was really relaxing o just paddle out for the day and look at all the villages along the lagoon. Great for families.
Good points: The location was out of town but on a Lagoon overlooking a local village with lots of kids enjoying themselves in the water. Quite entertaining! It was very easy to get into town. There were hundreds of mini vans, called "Buses," which ran into Port Vila for A$1.20 each way. Everyone uses the Bus system. Taxis are a waste of money if you are not in a hurry. The kitchen facilities were adequate. The staff were tremendous. The restaurant was ok. The free breakfast was just toast and fruit. Nice outlook and start to the day. Not the hotels fault but people are allowed to smoke inside restaurants in Vanuatu. Very unpleasant and anti-social. Not so good points: They spend a lot of time pruning the trees and keeping the grounds looking nice but forget to do maintenance in the rooms. The shower was one of the worst i have experienced. It needed two washers to be replaced but even then it would not help much as the water never stayed a constant hot or cold. Showing was an unpleasant experience. The AirCon was old and noisy and not really adequate in the constant 32 degree heat. The ceiling fan was useless, far too slow and blocked from the bed by the mosquito net. It took a couple of days to get Wifi working in our room and then it was not a very secure connection. But the staff worked real hard to fix the Wifi problem. The room layout was not good with the TV being attached to the wall behind the sofa. However while we were there (8 nights) we looked at other accommodation and decided that we had picked the best place given the price and location. We would stay there again, if only because of the staff.
Tropicana have the friendliest staff I have ever met. Ester was fabulous especially with my daughter. They are always willing to help and make your stay the comfortable and relaxing. They were amazing with my daughter and the rooms were beautiful. It is in a great location and have local taxi's to take you where ever you need. The food was always fresh and always delicious, with the staff taking the time to remember the little things like how you take your coffee. The dining area sits over the lagoon meaning you can view the lagoon animals rom where you are sitting. The service is impeccable. This is a great place to take children with the option of swimming in the plunge pools, the beach on the lagoon or in their swimming pool.
The rooms are good and spacious with cooking facilities and lovely view over the lagoon. We had an end room which was better as it had more windows, and was on the upper floor. The ground floor rooms are straight onto the sand, but I don't know if there is noise from the rooms above as the floor is wooden. The location is very handy with a supermarket 5 minutes away. You just walk up to the main road (2 mins) and catch a bus any time. For us the problem was there were only 4 things on the lunch or dinner menu and if you don't eat meat there is not much choice. I realise this is a self-catering resort, but it would still be nice to have more food choices including some light snacks. Food is (in my opinion) expensive - around $28 for a main meal, however, it seems that all food is expensive in Vanuatu. We were unfortunate when we were there as a group of politicians took over part of the resort, and made quite a bit of noise, but this is obviously not a common occurrence. The pool was lovely, although not large, and was cleaned every day.
Stayed for 1 week in 2 bedroom apartment. Quiet place which is what we wanted after a busy year. Ester delightful. Runs on Island time but that's why we went to Vanuatu... living village on the other side of the lagoon so felt like we were experiencing Vanuatu life more rather than staying in a larger establishment. Shower cold sometimes but didn't matter too much as warm temperatures had that week.
