Port villa - Fatumaru lodge Big ceiling fan and aircon , throw in free water sports - kayaking and paddle boards And a great position to be far enough away that you don't hear the bustle of port villa this is a great place to visit. The view from the lodge balcony is amazing and so relaxing that this will definitely not be the last time we visit Fatumara lodge. The friendliness and helpfulness of the hardworking team at this resort is amazing . Nothing is too much trouble. Great place to stay. Clean and very comfortable - basic kitchenette. The pool is a clean and a great place to read and relax on days you don't want to explore or better still go for a swim in the lagoon which we often did. Helpful tips: Bus at the top of the hill - wave down any of the cars marked with a "B" they cost 150VT each. To any destination within port villa. Taxi is around 1000VT Top of the hill right is a quick shop for beers and mixers 5 mins walk Top of the hill left 12-15 mins is a bigger supermarket and local veggie market - better range than the smaller shops. Take a bus to the main market in Port Villa. Tons of veggie and fruit at very cheap cheap prices and it supports locals. Food here super cheap for a "street food" experience - curried fish and rice, chicken etc. Loads of restaurants available in walking distance - some fair value some over priced aimed at the "Tourist" so depends what your after. Top of the hill of the lodge and turn right down the hill is a new cinema and quick eats options. Pizza, burger fried chicken. If you want a totalling relaxing holiday stay here. We loved it and will be back to explore further.
This was the second time we stayed at this beautiful lodge. We spent five relaxing nights in early June in Erromango suite - we love this one as it is on ground floor with no railing on the balcony so you can just look straight out to the water and private beach and there is a hammock right outside the room- heavenly!! We loved the use of free kayaks gently paddling around the safe lagoon a couple of times a day sooo relaxing. Very close to quite a few good eateries as well and just a short $1.50 trip by bus ( if you don't feel like walking). We also took a bus to the Hideaway Island ferry for snorkelling one day and this only cost $3.00 each - much cheaper than a tour! But should have gone at higher tide. Great coconut fish curry at Hideaway but cocktail was a disappointment. Anchor in is a good pub down the road and pizza and view at Chill in town was great. Many thanks especially to Bessie and Julie and William for their absolutely fabulous customer service and knowledge - we can't wait to visit you all again.
We stayed at Fatumaru for three weeks and it kept getting better and better everyday. The staff are extremely friendly and accomodating, and always willing to help no matter what. They make you feel like you're at home and having the beach right outside your door meant great views morning and night time. It is also in a great position to get to and from places, a good walk to the markets. If I ever return to Vanuatu, I will definitely be staying here again. THANK YOU!
I came to Fatumaru with my wife and 2 children aged 10 and 8. Cyclone Donna approached Vanuatu and bad weather was coming, so all domestic flights were cancelled and our initial planning had to change. We received excellent service and support in the change of plans to avoid cyclone Donna. Fatumaru was as flexible as possible, and managed many changes without cost, as our flight schedules changed completely because of cyclone Donna. We ended up using Fatumaru Lodge, as a safe home between visiting other Vanuatu Islands, and stayed more than 10 nights. We stayed most of our time in the penthouse apartment with the fantastic terrasse, but the other rooms we had did not disappoint us either. Every morning I walked the 6-7 minutes to the French local bakery for fantastic bread for breakfast, and the nearby China-supermarket does have real butter. Easy local bus service in PortVila 150vatu/person- for tours within PortVila. Fatumaru arranged several things for us. Additionally, a great driver, William, is linked to the Lodge. He can take you on tours around Etafe. A full day trip for 10k Vatu. He also picked us up early mornings between flights, and treated us very kindly. Thank you to Ellie, Bessie, Julie etc. for making our Vanuatu stay fantastic, despite the many weather challenges. It felt like leaving home when we left.
I have just returned to Australia after a most enjoyable six nights stay at Fatumaru Lodge. The Lodge was not my first choice of accommodation, as for some reason, I'd always thought it more suitable for younger people and families, and, I am an older person mainly seeking 'peace and quiet' but it was suggested to me when my original booking else where was cancelled. Fatumaru Lodge is in a lovely tropical setting with most of the self contained accommodation right on the water of the beautiful calm (quiet shallow at times) lagoon, which is ideal for swimming, kayaking and standup board riding, all of which is right on your 'door step' so to speak. The Lodge, at this time of year was very peaceful which suited me, but on saying that it is, also suited to youngsters and families, and being within walking distance to town (15 - 20 mins) or a 150vt ($1.50) bus ride for the less energetic, is great, and, where a very interesting time can be had. The accommodation is really lovely, large room, large comfortable bed and a very private deck looking over the lagoon. There is a kitchenette, but for anyone like me who doesn't like too much cooking on holiday, there are quite a few good restaurants within walking distance, as the Lodge does not have a restaurant as such, but, a nice continental breakfast is available by the pool each morning if required. I must say it is the first time I've actually stayed right in town, and I think Fatumaru Lodge is extremely good value for money. I am really pleased I had a chance to stay here, Elle and her staff are lovely, helpful people, and I look forward to seeing them again very soon. Thank you all very much. Janet.
We enjoyed 12 days on Efate and our visit was made more memorable by our stay at Fatumaru Lodge. The location is idyllic, with fabulous views, ready access to swimming and kayaking, and walking distance to a patisserie and Port Vila. The service is absolutely superb, as is breakfast. We were looked after so well by Bessie, Julie and all the staff. They were all so friendly and helpful that it really added to our holiday. We recommend Fatumaru with no hesitation.
Hubby and I had a great stay at Fatumaru! We originally planned to stay a few days only and go to Santo afterwards, but cyclone Donna changed our plans and we spent our whole week there. The staff was great and very accomodating (special thanks to Bessie and Julie - tangkyu tumas!) The apartments are well looked after. There are mini fridge, stove top, cutlery, utensils and a french press with the delicious Tanna coffee provided (loved it!) The lodge is an easy walk to town - we only walked to/ from there. There are a few restaurants close by too (before the town). There's a plaza nearby where a delicious bakery is located - less than 5min walk! Delicious croissants, quiches and sweet things! As the weather wasn't great, we didn't use the kayaks and SUP, but would love to have more time with good weather to take full advantage of them. Lovely pool area too. Highly recommend Fatumaru and would certainly stay there again.
Spend three nights in total at Fatumaru Lodge. This place is neat, well maintained, well managed and super clean. The personal is super friendly, resourceful, genuine and friendly. Free usage of the grill at the pool: we cooked ourselves a very nice piece of meal with sweet potatoes. Left PV the night where cyclone Donna lashes to the northern islands of the archipelago. Felt some side effects in PV through heavy rains. We could see that the personal was genuinely concerned about the safety of the clients. As our flight was delayed we got our room extended at no charge. We will definitively go back to Vanuatu with the aim of seeing Etafe under the sun and we will stay again at Fatumaru Lodge!
My wife and I just spent a week staying here. Fabulous location in Port Vila. Easy trip into town for 150 Vatu per person on any of the passing minivans with rego plate starting with 'B', or a walk along some good, and some bad, footpaths into the busier heart of Port Vila. A good 30 minutes walk. Taxis are about twice the price and about the same standard but you get the taxi to yourself. Lots of eating options within 10 minutes walk. And lots more with a 10 minute drive. Nice Chinese restaurant with glorious views 5 mins walk. The lodge is down a steepish driveway off a busy road. It was wonderfully quiet once you got down the driveway. The staff at Fatumaru are fabulous. They gave good honest advice every time we asked and were keen to assist. They have excellent knowledge of the whole area. Nothing was too much trouble. The place is not shiny and new and there are obvious signs of wear and tear. Decking around the pool and some of the chairs require attention. Use of stand up paddle boards and kayaks is included. We paddled up the bay and parked on a muddy beach and had a coffee at 'Chantillys on the Bay'. Bring 'reef shoes' to Vanuatu to protect your feet from coral cuts. Coral, and sharp sand, is in lots of places. Mosquitoes were present but not in huge numbers. I put repellant on me all the time though. Our first time in Vanuatu. The whole population are ridiculously friendly. And Fatumaru Lodge was a great base.
We spent a week in Fatumaru Lodge and everything was perfect for us. We had a seaview room (the view in wonderful) with a nice balcony where my husband really enjoyed fishing every evening. The room was very nice decored. The staff is really helpful with daily cleanjng and laundry. Also we really enjoyed the BBQ area and the pool, where we had a nice bbq night with other tourists from this hotel. Also, the breakfast by the pool is really nice. The kayaks and sup boards can be used for free. The staff are very helpful and friendly, especially July who is a sweet girl. The resort has a beautiful garden around the pool, also trees: avocado, pomelo, coconut and flowers around, like hibiscus and others. In the evening was a fantastic nice smell in the garden and a divine atmosphere. We had a week in paradise! Thank you! It's a very friendly place.
