Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh5.0 out of 5.0

We were part of a large singing group in town for the Fringe Festival. All 140 of us were staying at the Sheraton. Check in for such a large group was handled by handing us each an envelope with a key to a room, having our luggage portered to our rooms (THAT took a while, understandably), and sending us to a welcome reception with wine-lots of wine. This was much need since we had spent the rainy afternoon on a bus. The room was luxurious, to this usually mid-range traveler. Almost too much so, since I never did figure out the lighting system, even with directions. The staff was invariably accommodating-giving directions, seating us for breakfast, generally helping out. Breakfast was ample, varied, and delicious. And I love the big pots of tea-in the US you barely get a cup's worth of hot water. The location is wonderful-we walked to the Tattoo, walked to our concert in St Giles, and walked to our concert in Greyfriars Kirk. There are plenty of nearby restaurants of every type. The hotel restaurant, which we did dine at one evening, is quite modern, which in this case means delicious but almost too precious-and after eating pub food for nearly 2 weeks, skimpy.
The Sheraton Grand Hotel Edinburgh is an excellent place for your visit to this historic city. The location is a short distance from the main part of the city. The hotel staff are ready to ensure you enjoy the experience of Edinburgh.
On a recent holiday to Edinburgh travelling on the Belmond Northern Belle train for 4 days, we were placed in the Sheraton Grand Hotel for 3 nights. We had a lovely room as we had been given an upgrade but unfortunately it had an adjoining door and we were woken at 2am with our neighbours returning to their room. We could hear every word being said and the same the next morning so we asked to be moved and we were moved within a few hours which was fine. The new room was much smaller and overlooked the car park but it was so quiet! I don't think we would stay there again by choice as compared to our previous stays in Edinburgh, it just didn't quite live up to our expectations. Have to say the Reception staff were lovely and the hotel was exceptionally busy with the Festival and Fringe going on.
The staff at the Sheraton were wonderful. They helped us with maps and directions as well as suggestions for what we should do. We stayed four nights and then were gone for several nights. We came back for one last night and they greeted us like long lost friends! The location is great. Room was great. We ate in the bar area one night because it was after 10 p.m. and most restaurants were closing. The food and service were great. Highly recommend the Sheraton.
Stayed for 3 nights for the Military Tattoo and the Fringe. Best location to be only 15 minute walk to the castle and the best side to be to join the queque for the second performance. Had a room on the 4th floor with a view of the castle so saw the fireworks on the Friday night as well. Lovely room with a large super comfy double bed. Big flat screen tv with lots of channels especially for those visitors who are not from the UK. Bathroom slightly compact and the hot water could have been hotter took a long time to fill the bath. Large in room safe and good tea / coffee making facility. Breakfast excellent. Staff so helpful and pleasant.
We stayed here during the busy festival season. The hotel is very easy to locate from haymarket station and is close to the old and new town, with lots of shops and places to eat/have coffee within ten minutes walk. The hotel itself is very nice, with a lounge area at check in and you can help yourself to lemon water, apples and Scottish shortbread. The local paper is available to be delivered each morning to your room. The rooms are a good size, and have mood lighting coloured options which is fun. The bathroom has a shower and a bath, although our bath did not have any hot water so we had to use the shower to fill it. Our room view was overlooking the roof of the hotel, so not great but this didn't bother us. The beds are comfy and it was nice to have some complimentary slippers. There is also a drawer with coffee cups to go which was helpful to take your coffee out with you. We used the swimming pool and sauna at 9pm and it was empty which was great. The gym was also well equipped and lots of options for weights/dumbells/machines/mat area. Everything you could need. We had some deliveries sent to the hotel during our stay which were delivered no problem. Overall a great stay in a lovely luxurious hotel.
This was a very nice hotel. The rooms were clean and modern and the staff was always willing to help. It was situated a very short walk from the Castle and Royal Mile and was central to a great deal of food and entertainment. The hot bar was lively and the room service breakfast was very good. The concierge was awesome and helped with express tickets to events and restaurant suggestions. My only gripe with the property was the view. We booked a castle view room and it was t quite what we expected. The window to the room was small and you had to sit at the desk in the room in order to get a view of the castle. I would have expected more since there was an upcharge for the view.
This hotel is within walking distance of many things in Edinburgh. We liked the rooms and the service was good. The spa left much to be desired. They didn't tell me that the wet area was an extra charge when I booked a massage so I was very disappointed at this since most spa treatments also include access to the wet areas. All in all it is a good but expensive option for your stay in Edinburgh.
Oh my goodness. I just had the most amazing facial treatment ever and I have had a few over the years. You are warmly welcomed at One Spa by the reception team and then taken to the luxurious yet very calming treatment rooms. The lighting is perfect, ditto the music. I had a Spiezia Organics Head in Heaven facial that was utterly perfect. Soothing, gentle strokes, lovely products - I usually think of tasks to do when having a facial but on this occasion I stayed ' in the moment' all the way through. I didn't nod off but it was the most relaxed I have ever felt. I cannot recommend the product or spa more highly.
Lovely hotel and brilliant staff! Stayed four nights and enjoyed every minute. Upon check in we had the pleasure of meeting Jacub at the front desk, I must say he made our trip, very knowable and helpful, always had a smile on his face and very welcoming! We also had the pleasure of meeting Jaun, he came to our room to empty our refrigerator, he is another star employee, always smiling and very helpful, we tried to give him a gratuity and he refused it!! Great location, short walk to everything, nice room with a beautiful view of the castle! Great lighting in the bathroom, you can select your mood by colors! Lovely buffet breakfast and lots of good restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and hope to be back.
