Ghent Marriott Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Clean and comfortable for the noted chain hotel. Service staff are very friendly and helpful. Excellent location right on the canal front, near the castle and other attractions. Hotel restaurant is quite good and they have an open wine bar and lounge for casual meeting. Lots of excellent dining options just outside the hotel too. The room service menu is a bit dull - seeming to cater to American business travelers (burgers and pizza?), but they do have Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream! The shower tub is a bit narrow making it awkward to move and the odd half-door on the shower can allow water to splash out - but this layout seems typical for the Marriott chain in Europe. I have stayed here a few times, and discovered often too late that there are additional hotel perks such as free drink coupons and ways to earn extra Marriott Rewards points that would be good if the staff pointed these out to guests upon arrival.
This hotel has all the ingredients for a great experience and i would have give it a 5/5 if weren't for the incredibly messy check in. Long waiting time, the pre-ordered champagne and snacks weren't not in the room or were of the wrong kind. But, all in all this is a wonderful hotel and is located directly in the historic city centre. Comfortable rooms, generous breakfast buffet. Nice lobby bar with a good choice of late night snack, open wines and specialty beer. Has a parking garage available.
My husband and I stayed here while touring the city in February 2017. We arrived by car, and the hotel has a parking garage in the same building, which was very convenient. We received such a warm welcome from the staff. They answered all our questions and gave us a helpful map of the city. The decor of the hotel is beautiful, and the location is ideal. It is situated right along the water, within walking distance of many restaurants and all the historic sites. We took a guided walking tour of the city, and they even brought us to the hotel as a stop on the tour! It is considered to be the fanciest hotel in the city. On top of it all, the bed was extremely comfortable. I've traveled frequently throughout Europe, and the large comfy bed was the perfect place to retreat each evening after a day of exploring. Highly recommend staying here!
Very good hotel, cant beat their efficient reception staff. Everyone is very friendly. Hotel rooms are big and very clean. The location is in the best part of Gent centre. I would not stay anywhere else in Gent.
I had the opportunity to stay at the Ghent Marriott with my sister and our combined total of 5 boys (age 9-15) for one night between visits to Brussels and Amsterdam. Our accommodations were spacious and well decorated. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The boys all enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the quaint rooms overlooking the river. The hotel was ideally located with a quick walk to all sites of interests in the city. We all really enjoyed the city of Ghent and the Marriott was the perfect spot for this large traveling family of cousins to stay.
On arrival we were given a really warm welcome and as Marriott reward elite members given a welcome letter signed by the manager. Our bags were delivered to our room which was nicely located on the fourth floor. I have to say that this hotel is beautifully located next to the water where boat trips can be taken . Unfortunately during our stay this was not possible due to the weather. Shopping close by with an abundance of restaurants to choose from. Breakfast was simple but not lacking in choice. Unfortunately we did not realise when seated that we could have ordered different eggs i.e. Poached or fried to be brought to our table. Never mind the scrambled were pleasant but would have liked some baked beans to go with them. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
Stayed for one night during the week of 2/13. Rooms were excellent, clean, modern and quite large. Staff was friendly and gave us a great restaurant recommendation nearby, du Progress, which I also recommend. The bar area is quite nice as well, with full glass wall and ceiling..giving a modern feel. Lot of tourist sites very close by, definitely within walking distance. Highly recommend this hotel.
The Ghent Marriott is situated on the canal and the facade is the original warehouse constructed in the 1400's. The room was very comfortable, clean and quiet. The breakfast on February 14th was excellent. The ice cube dispenser (on every floor) was the best I've seen anywhere. There are world class restaurants on the other side of the canal.
Perfect location with all the main sights within walking distance. Spacious, comfortable & clean room. Friendly & knowledgeable staff. Parking on site in the heart of Gent. All in all perfect for a short break and worthy of (rare for me) 5 stars.
What a fantastic Marriott in an amazing beautiful city. Arriving with no expectations, we stayed here for one night (on points) while picking up booze for our wedding. The hotel is next to/on the river in the absolute centre of Ghent. It looks amazing and is extremely clean and well decorated. The foyer is very spacious, the rooms a large, feature-full and comfortable. We were lucky enough, not only to have a Belgian classical radio station hosting within the foyer with its associated live music. We were also there we when there were classical concerts outside which ended with some amazing fireworks display. Although little awkward playing the EU national anthem just after Brexit :S We had a drink and snack here and while a little expensive you were well looked after. There is secure parking if you need. One of the best Marriott’s I have stayed at and we will go again.
