I didn't know what to expect when I booked this B&B but I am so glad that after driving about 2000 miles I stopped here and got to recharge. The cottages are all so cozy and welcoming. Enjoyed sleeping with the windows open, enjoying the night air, and listening to the brooks and streams around the property. Flowers were so beautiful. AND THE TREES! The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. Beautiful respite from the chaotic. Take a few days and treat yourself.
I am honestly shocked that there are any bad reviews. The vast majority of them being about the TV! Seriously! This place is absolutely beautiful! Who watches TV at a place like this! Kathie was tremendously sweet and accommodating. The cottages are so cozy and welcoming. Amenities fantastic and her cooking is great! I will absolutely come back and feel this place was definitely worth the money. If you want an amazing experience worth the money come down and see Kathie.
We were traveling through Durango and at the last minute decided to spend the night. Found the Apple Orchid Inn online. They had one cottage available and we are so glad we jumped on it! The property is absolutely lovely. Kathy, the Inn Keeper was so welcoming. GREAT homemade breakfast is included. We will definitely return and share with others!
Kathi is an ideal hostess - from the welcome drink to the delicious breakfast. The beds are super comfy. The rooms are huge and offer top of the line amenities. The grounds are inviting for a casual walk in a peaceful setting! Parking is easy for our large truck. My husband grew up in the area and the “Apple Orchard” provides a wonderful base. Kathi had made cherry jam and made it available for purchase. We accidentally left something behind and she was very gracious in returning it to us. We agree that this is one of the top B & B’s in the country!
We enjoyed the stay, the grounds were lovely the breakfast was good and varied. The location is pretty far from town and they’re some things misleading in the advertising. The beverages served beer, wine etc. through out the afternoon and evening and cookies... lol 4-6pm only! We were there 3 nights I managed to snag 1 beer and 2 cookies. I think staying closer to town might have been better but overall not bad nice rooms but we were missed by house keeping 1 day the beds weren’t made.
This property is everything it appears to be in pictures - enchanting scenery, landscape and architecture. Breakfast is served between 8 and 8:45, which was perfect. We enjoyed chatting with the other guests at the large tables but also liked the privacy of our cabins. We are promptly at 8 then strolled to the back of the property to watch the train pass and the bikes trying to out run it (the Iron Horse). The cabins are well appointed with 2 sinks, refrigerator, plenty of hot water, a private patio and a porch swing. We watched a fox run through the field outside our patio and enjoyed looking at the millions of stars just steps from our bed. Some experiences like these can't be found in the chain hotels. We would love to go back. We might try one of the cabins with a hot tub next time.
We had a wonderful stay at the Inn. Keep in mind, it's a drive from town - but if you want that less busy, quiet stay like we did...this is the best option. During the summer or fall - not a problem. If you are staying there over winter (when snow is prevalent)...you may want to do some research before staying here, depending on your activities planned. The owner- Kathi is great and you can clearly see she Loves doing what she does! Her breakfast was awesome (we have no special requests and were very satisfied with what she served us), she was extremely hospitable and had a wide resource of info on places to eat in town, where to shop and visit. So, don't hesitate to ask her- very helful! We planned to ski in Purgatory, so this was a great option for us to stay, that was less trafficked. We had amazing snow while there, great views from our room and dining area. Kathi has dogs, but not an issue - she's very considerate of her guests stay and we never heard the dogs at all. She kept property maintained and cleared walkways & driveway cleared of snow. I read other reviews prior to staying and all I can say is - do your research prior to stay - call her up to determine which room would be suitable to your needs. It's up to you, but she is an excellent host and made us feel very comfortable there. Hope to return to stay in a cottage over summer/fall! The Aelvoets
While the room was spacious and clean, we were not able to have a relaxing experience at the Apple Orchard Inn. We stayed one night in December. The check in process was smooth. But apparently, the breakfast prep starts at around 6am and it is EXTREMELY loud. I don't know if it was the placement of our room or what, but we could hear everything. The loud clanking of pots and pans, all sorts of footsteps, banging of stuff, chopping, cutting, loud banging of doors - it was a major ruckus. I understand if this was happening around 9 or 10am but this is early in the morning and there are tired travelers trying to rest. Time for breakfast provided is also pretty short and there are very few options for breakfast items. Whatever they serve for the day is what you get and if you have any dietary restrictions then you're out of luck. I love to support local businesses but this was a disappointing experience.
This was our second visit to the Apple Orchard Inn. We were happy to return to the Liberty cabin, and pleased with the remodel. The new shower is beautiful, and the fireplace was very nice. We really liked the hard wood floors and the radiant heat - but found it difficult to control the heat at night. Didn’t sleep well because it was just too hot. We were disappointed by the breakfast this visit because Kathi’s breakfast was outstanding last time we stayed here. This breakfast was pretty bad. Biscuits and Gravy a la mode. The hash browns were way over cooked and the eggs were over cooked, and the yolks were broken. I need to maintain a gluten free and dairy free diet, but Kathi said she wouldn’t have done anything differently to accommodate that. My husband had the biscuits and gravy with the hash browns and eggs and said that the biscuit was okay, but the gravy was cold. A gentleman came in for breakfast alone, saying his wife didn’t feel well. Kathi said he could have breakfast, but she didn’t have anything he could take back to his wife. I was really surprised at that. Kathi explained that she is planning to convert the cabins to permanent residences for seniors and she will be cooking 3 meals a day for them. I wish her luck, but It sure seems to me that she is just burned out. Such a shame, because this property is so beautiful, and has such potential.
Stayed with my 2 teenagers - plenty of room and was very comfortable. My only regret is I got there after dark and had to leave fairly early. I did get to enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch rocking chair facing a beautiful mountain and well maintained property as well as a homemade breakfast of stuffed French toast (with homemade apple jam). The cottage was very clean and modern. I was very pleased with our stay and will definitely be back!
