We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are basic but have everything you need. The Wi-Fi is of good quality. Breakfast is standard and the beach area is perfect for relaxing. I would recommend this hotel in Lapad.
Booked on the same day as stay during high season. Price was right. Location near beach was just what we were looking for and room was spacious. Breakfast inclusion is always nice along with free parking. Thanks Hotel Vis.
1) Cleanliness was a very big issue. Arrived to a dusty room. Floor and curtains were dusty. Even the hotel information booklet had dust on it. The shower curtain was yellowish. 2) Secondly and perhaps the most severe and annoying problem was the parking facility. Since there was free parking, I decided to drive to the hotel. Drove up to the front of the hotel and could not get through the gantry. Stopped somewhere and went to the front desk and asked about free parking, receptionist told us to park at another hotel a little down the road but that was full as well. So I parked beside the gantry, and I made sure to leave enough space for cars to pass (I estimated there was enough space for a bus to pass as well). Next morning we left for a walk around town, came back at noon and saw a traffic police officer issuing us a parking ticket. The hotel had called the police to move our car away because a delivery truck could not enter. BUT that wasn't our fault because at the front desk, I could constantly see my car clearly through the video of the CCTV at the gantry. If we weren't even allowed to park there in the first place, someone from the front desk should have notified us within the 15-20 hours that my car was parked there. But they didn't seem to care. Talked to someone we presumed was the supervisor (not in uniform) about the fine and this was exactly what he said: 'it's not my business'. The fine set us back 300kn. What pissed us off was that the hotel did not take any responsibility of the situation right from the start. There were over a hundred rooms, and there was only a parking space for a maximum of 10 cars. When we expressed our problems, no one from the reception was willing to solve it either. I would suggest staying at some other hotel that is not under the same management. Pay a little more and you can stay in a much more decent hotel. (The presumed supervisor was a slim and tall white male, around 1.9m tall, in his 50s, and had a beard)
location is good and this is a plus ... but the rest need to be significantly improved ! Rooms need a "face lift' , rooms on a back have a strong smell from kitchen , front have a noise from kids :-) Yes , if you are with a little kid - this is your place - but i am not interested hearing screaming babies - sorry. But the most frustrating part - they say there is a wifi - DO NOT believe it , there is NO WIFI in the room! you need to sit in the lobby like an idiot given 6 hours difference with US. I have been in the most remote islands and 3 world countries - but this place has NO wifi ! so i do not recommend this hotel ! Food is fine , but only if you come right on time , also ladies who serve you have very little manners - instead of offering clean plate for trash they just scoop everything and give it back.
Apart from the fact their are no lifts, but plenty of stairs we found the staff were good and helpful. It was a fulfilling breakfast on a terrace with a pleasant view over Lapad Bay.The Bus journey to the Old City was fast and reliable, every 15minutes.
Arrived on an evening as we were going on to Korkula. This hotel was fine for an overnight stay.Included breakfast so good value for money. In the morning checked out but took advantage of their pebble beach for a few hours very nice.
We just completed our vacation at the Hotel Vis. There appears to be a gap in what they offer their guests and the actual cost. The staff seem indifferent in their service and constantly rationalize their extra costs for things like ice and beach chairs. The lunch menu was advertised but not available. No fridges or mini-bars. No hotel parking. This 3 Star would have great potential if management/owners would pay more attention to providing a great experience for their patrons.
Our local travel agent suggested this hotel for a trip my wife booked as a birthday surprise. First impressions weren't great as we didn't get a room with a sea view (travel agent failing, not helped by a slightly surly receptionist who pointed out our voucher was for a 'Park View') and then we realised it was quite a way from the Old Town. However, after a couple of trips we found the bus journey really easy. We spent all of our time (4 days) in and around the Old Town, so only used the hotel to sleep and have breakfast. It was nice to be able to have breakfast (from the buffet) sitting on the terrace, overlooking the sea. The room was functional (with slightly iffy plumbing) but a bit vulnerable to neighbours banging doors. Would we stay here again? Well, if it was the only hotel available, yes, but it wouldn't be our first choice.
The rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable. The bar and restaurant is fantastic with amazing view across the bay. Staff are friendly and helpful. The beach is stony but the sea is incredibly calm and has a very high salt content so is perfect for swimming, or floating! 10 minutes on a bus to the old town, stops right outside the hotel. 2 minute walk away is street filled with lovely bars and restaurants. Couldn't ask for more for your money.
We booked online based on reviews on tripadvisor and some other websites - so we weren't exactly sure what we were going to get as there seems to be such a range of opinions here on TA. I'm genuinely surprised by the really negative reviews. We stayed a week. We found the staff helpful, the rooms clean, the location great and the prices incredibly reasonable. When we arrived we were a little bit early, and while it wasn't possible for us to check in we were given the option of leaving our luggage. When we went back to check in, the staff member was most accommodating. Her English was excellent, which was a relief as we have none of the local language whatsoever! There is a small 'city tax' that you may have to pay on arrival (depending on how you've booked) - of just 1 Euro per person per day. There were signs about paying this up front, or before receiving all your documents back (they take your passport on arrival, to get the details while expediting check in). I asked about paying on arrival and was told it would be absolutely fine as we were leaving. We had booked a double room with a balcony and sea view. The room was small, and basic - the ensuite had a shower, not a bath - with a dated TV, but it was exceptionally clean and serviced every day by very pleasant housekeeping staff. Breakfast was buffet style with a range of pastries, breads, eggs and sausages as well as cereals and fruits. We felt the breakfast was excellent, in a lovely well lit restaurant that has a large outdoor section. The hotel is right on a small, pebble beach with very affordable deckchairs and umbrellas available. You could literally walk down the stairs from the hotel onto the beach, which was clean and the water (in June) was really pleasant. There were a number of outlets where you could hire sea kayaks, jetskis etc. The hotel has an outdoor restaurant for lunches that was competitively priced in the area. Patrons of Vis could also avail, for a price, of facilities in nearby hotels (eg swimming pools, spas) which were all part of the same group. We didn't try the evening restaurant although we ate in some of the other restaurants in the sister hotels and enjoyed the food there. When we needed information about the Dubrovnik Card (which is worth the money for the bus journeys and access to the walls), bus times, excursions the hotel staff were very helpful. There are three caveats I would offer, but none of these were detrimental to our wonderful stay: 1. Wifi was frustratingly unreliable, although we never complained so it's possible this was a resolvable problem. 2. Some of the rooms on the road (rather than beach) side of the hotel would have very disappointing views, but the hotel is still well located. 3. The hotel has no elevators, and even if your room is on the ground floor its location on the side of the hill means that there are steps down into the man door, more into the stairwell lobby and even some to the first floor. We really enjoyed our stay in Hotel Vis. It was clean, the food was good, the staff were excellent, our small room was quiet (and had aircon) and the hotel is in a great location for walking around the nearby hotels and for buses into the rest of the city. I don't know if we will return to Dubrovnik, though I suspect we might. While I will of course shop around if we do, the first place I'll look is Hotel Vis.
