Great hotel location, great views from the terrace (i will leave photos), very clean, the beach just few steps outside my room, good food, good service, ( many thanks Marina ) for that and not at the last, (the city's wals) waw, for a game of thrones fan that is amazing. Also good bus communication from hotel to downtown. Great experience i will definitely go back again!
We stayed for 3 nights. Paid extra for a balcony and sea view. Disappointed our seaview was just a view of hotels etc across the bay side, im sure other sea view rooms look down the bay out to sea. Small balcony to sit 2 people but small for sun loungers. Very dissapointed with the food. We booked half board breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was mobbed by groups, by the time we got to the buffet each time, less choice or a 10 mins wait for top up food. Choice very limited and wuality very average. We ate out 2 of the 3 nights due to this. Breakfast wasnt much better. Staff very friendly and attentive. Hotel very clean. Good location in Lapad Bay. Cafe, bars, restaurants of various qualities in 10-15 mins walk. Gift shops, bakery, supermarket, cinema and night club close by. Bus uo to the old town outside hotel. Bus no 4 is 15 kuna. We walked up one day, slowly took 40 mins, up hill. Great views as you cone into the city over the Bays. We would recommend but inform people about eating.
Nice Hotel with good bus links to the citadel albeit a few miles away. There is a beach out the back door with paddle boards etc. There are plenty of resturaunts in the area and shops down the road in walking distance if you don't fancy a nightly trip to the main attraction. Rooms were clean (as expected).
littele bit old-style, with a newer add-on part.Long staircase down to the reception, as well as no lift to the 4th floor. Can be a problem for people with heavy luggage. Good food in the restaurant. Friendly staff. A bar, but no real lounge.
This is our 3rd visit to the Hotel Vis 3* hotel which is based in Lapad Bay Dubrovnik for a weeks holiday half board in a sea view room. The Hotel Vis 3* belongs to the Maestral Hotel Group of which they are 5 hotels in the group and they are all based in the same region of Lapad. However the Hotel Vis 3* has the best location being based along side Lapad Bay with amazing views cross the bay. The entrance to the Hotel Vis is from the road that runs behind it and access then into the hotel is by many steep steps.Rooms are allocated either with sea view or park view. Sea view rooms obviously overlook across Lapad Bay whilst Park view / Land view overlook the car park and road behind the hotel. However the Park view / Land view rooms do get the sun all day whereas the Sea view rooms are in the shade all day.All rooms have a balcony. The Hotel Vis has two levels with double/ single/triple and superior rooms. Our holiday with Jet2 only offered double rooms with a supplement for a sea view room which we paid. On arrival we were allocated Room 309 which meant climbing two flights of steps as there is no lift nor any elevators to find this room allocated on the second floor in the main wing of the hotel. The room itself was small but compact with a refurnished bathroom. There was a built - in wardrobe at the entrance to the room. The balcony with table and 2 chairs overlooked Lapad Bay. However on entering the room it had not been made ready for our arrival so we left our luggage whilst it was attended to by the cleaner. We did send an email in advance for extra pillows but we did not get any. It was only by asking at reception did we eventually get more pillows. Slight disappointment that our room was not ready on arrival. On our previous visit 2016 we had been upgraded to a superior room. Our Room 309 was cleaned daily by the cleaner to a high standard who was also busy throughout our stay dealing with the tour groups overnight stays. The Hotel Vis clientele does concentrate mainly on Tour Groups who arrive and go after 1 or 2 nights. Our cleaner worked alone on our level cleaning and preparing rooms constantly. We had clean towels daily and our bed was made up and changed. We eventually asked for another pillow which she supplied us with the same day. We did nominate our cleaner as a star employee of the Hotel Vis because she worked so hard and was always well mannered, polite and pleasant. We also paid a supplement for Half Board but we had previous experience at this hotel and found the food was limited. However to our surprise we found that the breakfast and more so the evening meal has greatly improved. There was a good choice of food available at breakfast and particularly the evening meal buffet. There was good options for meat dishes, fish dishes and vegetarian food. Our only criticism was the queuing at 7.00 pm for the evening meal began very early. It was only when the lights are turned on at 7.00 pm we were allowed to enter the dining room. This then became a marathon to then find a table to sit at and then to form another queue for the food. Any later on entering the dining room you would be lucky to find a table and you would be in a very long queue for food. We did note that some of the tables were reserved for tour groups who arrived much later. Surely these tables could have been used before their arrival to help with the seating of other guests who ended up without anywhere to sit or who had to eat outside in the the dark and cold? Hotel Vis sits on a stony beach which can be used by guests and locals. However reception should make it clear to you on arrival to guests that the beach does charge to sit or rent the sun loungers. Many guests were allowed to sit on the sun loungers unaware that a payment had to be made until after getting comfortable were told by the attendant that there was a fee. There should be clear signage of the charges to avoid any misunderstanding and embarrassment. We noted the cost of the sun loungers had increased from 2016 35 kunas per person to 2017 50 kunas per person. We saw many people put in this position and they refused to pay and left. However the cost of the sun loungers was cheaper than the sun loungers on the newly refurnished Sunset Beach who charged 140 kunas per day. Conclusion. The Hotel Vis 3 * does not pretend to be a 5* hotel. The decor throughout is appropriate of a 3 star hotel and yes there is scope to improve and redecorate. The reception area has had a slight face lift with new furniture and a different layout. Our Room 309 had a new bathroom and no doubt other rooms will have had new bathrooms. All of the rooms had wooden standard doors which are functional and use the traditional key. The walls in between the rooms are thin and we did have to ask on one occasion that the guests next door to not talk as loud as we could hear every word spoken. There are hotels throughout Lapad and around the Bay with a higher star grading but you will find that this is reflected in the price and cost of staying there. The Hotel Vis offers good value for money in a prime location which has easy access to Dubrovnik City (bus stop outside), Babin Kuk and to the Port with access to walking the coastal route. We enjoyed our holiday and we would not hesitate to visit the Hotel Vis again. However due to the amount of steps and location it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
This was a lovely three star hotel, great staff, good food and clean well attended rooms. 250 Kunas to the airport, they will order this for you, about £32. The room is basic but good value for money, comfortable bed, limited tv channels with a good bathroom. Breakfast was a good mix of hot and cold choices, bacon and eggs every day, continental selection and the usual fruit and cereals. Dinner was varied every night. Two soups to start along with salads. Three meat choices, one fish dish, one veggie meal, fresh vegetables, standard buffet desserts. Lots of nice breads. Lovely access to the beach but... pebbles! You need good footwear to venture across however the sea is perfect for swimming, so clear. There is no lift, so if you have a walking impairment this could be an issue; the hotel is down a slight hill from the main road and the beach is down some stairs. Excellent bay to see the sunset at night and a short (10 minutes) bus ride to the Old City; 15 kunas one way roughly £1.85. I would recommend getting the Dubrovnik card, this will cover some sights and some bus travel.
Lovely place and hotel with healthy varied foods. Dubrovnik is a lovely city and the weather was perfect. I had a room with sea view and over looking the garden which was a good choice and the steps make lots of walking good exercise.
Stayed for a week in October 17. Staff very friendly and food plentiful. Beach a let down as very large pebbles making it very difficult to go for a swim. Also sunbeds very expensive nearly £14.00 a day for 2. Bus service very good only 10 minutes to the old town.
My parents are just back from a weeks stay here. They said the hotel was lovely and clean, staff were all helpful and friendly. Rooms were cleaned everyday, they were half board and said the food was really good. The only downsides they mentioned was the hotel would not be good for people with wheelchairs/prams or people who struggle to walk as there are 66 steps to get in and out the hotel. One thing that really annoyed them was that they had to pay the hotel for sunloungers on the beach which was just in front of the hotel. It worked out at £12 everyday for them both to hire the loungers. They felt as they were guests at the hotel this should have been free to use as the hotel didn't have a pool or terrace area to sunbathe.
Spent 4 nights here this week, am not a fussy traveller as I do travel often and do not always plan luxurious trips but I thought some basic things could be well managed. Have had occasions where kettle, tea, coffee are not in room but it was really a walk to the bar every time to ask for a cup of hot water. Like someone else noted, its a lovely beach view but does smell of drainage. Bathroom door latch broken, tubs had crayon scribbles all over, and a used cup/saucer stayed in the room for 3 whole days despite housekeeping! The biggest issue for me was to travel back and forth from the old town - wanted to walk it out because a one way bus ride is 15kn but a walk is good 50 minutes. If you plan to take a taxi to and from the airport, I would recommend using Uber (if you do already) since the hotel charges you 100 kn extra than an Uber if you were to book with them.
