We really enjoyed our stay at Finnstown Castle. It's about a 30 minute drive to Dublin. There are a couple of shopping centers within walking distance. The grounds are seriously beautiful! We stayed in the Garden Suite and there was a peacock outside our room one morning. We also opted for the breakfast each morning which was really good. There is also a vending machine in the lobby of the Garden Suites which has an assortment of snacks and drinks.
We stayed here on our recent trip to Ireland and we loved it. I did read all the reviews before booking so I did know what to expect. First of all you do not stay in the building that is shown. That building is dinning, bar, sitting area etc and is very lovely. You stay in other buildings around the grounds and we were fine with that. You do need a car if staying here. Yes there is a bus stop but it is a bit away and it will take you a long while to get to the city on it so a car is a must if staying here. I found all the staff to be quite lovely with the exception of the men who work the breakfest in the morning, they do seem as if they do not want to be bothered with you but I just ignored it, not enough to bother me anyways. The grounds are lovely with the animals etc. Tricky to found but our gps got us there. There is a lovely pub called Lord Lucans very close which we enjoyed and a grocery store about 5 min away. Our room was basic but fine. Was large with two double beds and a big window which made it nice to open at night and listen to the rain. Lots of parking available. All in all it was a great experience for us and the price was not bad either.
Very beautiful grounds. The breakfast was exceptional, buffet style. You have access to a gym for morning workout.
The hotel is pristine with beautiful gardens and landscaping. The lobby and bar area is finely decorated and the rooms are very nice and clean.
Booked a Castle Hotel and ended up in one of their golf suites away from the hotel, they need to invest some money into the place. Bathrooms need an upgrade from the 70s
The shower was broken so that the shower head would not remain in the elevated position on the wall. I would simply slide down it's mounting bar unless held in place. Additionally, the shower door had a bad seal, so a lot of water went onto the floor. The waiting staff at the restaurant were very slow and not well organized. The hotel staff was not much better. Lastly, the fire alarm went off at 7 AM. I was told that it was because someone took a hot shower and did not close their bathroom door. The steam got into their main room and tripped the alarm. It sounded like that happened before and one would think that they would let residents know before hand.
when you book you think you are going to stay in a castle hotel. They dont tell you that you get a small apartment room which is behind the average castle in a totally separated building that is like a standard apartment complex. Neither the castle is nice. Their breakfast area is smelly. And the front desk staff is very rude
We visited Ireland from the USA and chose this hotel because it looked nice and was out of the city. The main building was very quaint and old and nice. Peacocks roam the picturesque grounds and there were llamas and an ostrich along the driveway. The cons: Our room was in a newer building more like a motel in the back. Nothing wrong with it except it was not in the older building pictured. We had only one chair. The shower had a very strange glass door that invited water to flood the floor. No hair dryer. We requested two wake up calls but only got one. The parking lot was often jammed. The hotel had frequent gatherings like weddings and conferences. Not a real good location if you plan to do a lot in Dublin. About 20-30 minutes away. There is a bus stop not far away. But good if you want to drive around the suburbs. The pros: The staff was always helpful and friendly. The room and grounds were clean. The breakfast was good. (Except the scrambled eggs were not near as good as the fried) A supermarket is close by too. Overall a nice hotel but not convenient to frequent trips to Dublin.
