We booked two rooms here for our family of seven, several months in advance of our August 2017 visit. When you're booking a trip for three generations to a completely new destination, it can be hard to trust that the details will all work out. In this case, they totally did. We arrived at the Denali Park train depot from Anchorage, and were met by the shuttle bus. We got our key pass while we were waiting to load, so we could bypass the front desk - brilliant, since there was enough people to merit a second hotel shuttle. Val was our entertaining bus driver, and we all got a kick out of the road signs on the steep switchback climb up the hill to the lodge. At 2,800 feet above sea level, the lodge provides a gorgeous view of the valley. We had a nice view from our room, but there is plenty of patio space at the main lodge to enjoy it as well. Basic rooms, nothing luxurious, but they were clean, which mattered most. Booked two and they were next to each other. The Keurig coffee maker was a great help in the morning. What we loved about the service: - For $18, you can order a box lunch (ham, turkey, roast beef or grilled veggie sandwich options) which will be ready in the morning, if you order by 8pm. This is important, since there aren't dining options within the park, and it's hard to stock up on food for a long day trip if you didn't come in by car. While $18 may seem steep, it was well worth it. The lunch came in a reusable cooler bag - my kids still use theirs for school snacks - and included a pair of binoculars for our bus ride. - Shuttle bus service was great - reliable service with very specific schedule for town and park; shared with sister hotel Denali Bluffs. - Staff was very friendly and helpful. - Checkout was very easy. They provided bag transfer to the RR station (just tag and leave by the door). I hope we get a chance to come back to Denali and can stay here again. If you make the trip, the Grande Denali is an excellent choice, especially for families.
After arriving by train to Denali, we stayed one night at the Grand Denali Lodge before beginning our Park adventure. It's quite an adventure getting to the Lodge as it sits on a pretty steep hill but the views are very nice once you arrive. They have a shuttle so it was easy to transfer from the train and the luggage is transferred for you to the hotel from the train which is very nice. Rooms were fine and comfortable. They have a nice bar with outside seating so you can enjoy the weather if it is nice. We also had dinner at the restaurant and thought it was quite good. They do have shuttles that will take you into town or to/from the train station so there is no need to have a car.
Excellent place to stay. we reached there late . excellent rooms & services. We got up to see North Light. but it was not clear that night. view from the hotel was excellent. Food & bar was great & the breakfast too . As the season was coming to an end they where in a winding up mood .
We stayed at the Grande Denali Lodge's sister hotel, the Denali Bluffs hotel. We wanted to see this lodge, so we took their shuttle service to it. Taking the road up the mountain to this Lodge was funny, because the owner/employees have a sense of humor by posting funny road signs as you go up the mountain. The lodge is large and it has nice common areas, we just didn't see any of their rooms. Again, amazing views being so high up.
These rooms were average. With few options close to the Denali Park entrance, we knew we would be paying a premium price for a room. The lodge is in a lovely location, is convenient and has a great view of the mountains. The rooms, while clean and comfortable enough, are not of the caliber you would expect for such high price. It would be hard to justify the cost if another option were available to you. Other park-side locales in Alaska had far better options for less expense.
This lodge has nice rooms and a great location just outside the park. Our only issue was that we were there the beginning of September and they were closing a few days later for the season. What that meant is that they were a little short staffed and the bar and dining room ran out of many things that they were not going to reorder. One very nice thing is that they have a free shuttle to go downtown (not much there) and another to take you to the park visitor center and wilderness center here you board busses into the park.
Dee Dee O'Brien has the best staff...and they have the best boss!! The service, the lodge facilities, and our entire trip were excellent. Thank you Grand Denali. The transportation to & from the village, the train depot were very organized and made our arrival & departure trouble free.
good views while dining. food was good. basic rooms- clean and decent size. comfortable beds. a shuttle to town was convenient. several shops below in town. the bus through the Denali park is interesting and long. saw many animals !!
Thankfully this hotel runs a regular shuttle bus up and down the hill it is on. Not far from town in a great position. Great bar and restaurant on site. Lovely spot to stay whilst ou enjoy the delights of Denali National Park.
We spent two nights here and wish we had stayed longer. There is so much to see that you really need at least two full days. We arrived from Anchorage and returned via the Alaska Railroad (highly recommended) and between the railroad and the lodge they make it so easy with our bags transferred from the train directly to our room. Our room was comfortable and clean and quite but honestly we were out of the room most of the time we were there. The views from the lodge are superb and the bar and restaurant are very good with excellent service. We hope to go back soon.
