Great location, not right in town but just a few minutes walk. Was a little concerned about the noise from the river but was no louder than an air conditioner, slept very well! Restaurant was great, service also great
Machu Picchu was spectacular but exhausting which resulted in us pretty much crashing at the hotel. Sumaq is a very nice and elegant hotel placed right next to the Machu Picchu river which was going at a fast pace. At the back of the hotel is the railway line and our room whilst really spacious and elegantly furnished was only a few meters from the tracks. The several trains going past at night gave us a feeling of camping on the tracks.....it truly felt like the train was going through your room, in particular running heavy Diesel engines. Dinner and breakfast was spot on and an early start to catch the bus up to the actual Machu Picchu site (30 Minute ride). As a tip try to get a room facing the river which will keep the train out of your room😁
We stayed overnight here in order to arrive to Machu Picchu early. Otherwise, the town is very small and not much to see. The hotel is nice, and the stay was comfortable. Ate dinner at the hotel restaurant which was ok. Given the other options, I’d say this is the best in town, but don’t forget this is Peru. Also be prepared for long bus lines, to the ruins, even at 5:30 AM!
This was a really good stay. It's in a great location right next to the Urubamba River which was in full spate and was roaring past. Rooms are very comfortable, food is excellent and staff were great. They will collect and drop off your luggage at the station and its within walking distance within 10 to 15mins from the station. Personally I'd go for River view. It's noisy but its just an amazing sight.
We stayed here as part of a group tour to Machu Picchu. Our luggage was collected at the station (and delivered to the station when we left), the rooms were spacious and comfortable and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We had both dinner and breakfast and the food was excellent. After our afternoon visit to Machu Picchu, we decided to visit the hot springs. The hotel staff were excellent - gave us direction, towels, a bag to carry them. Definitely the plan to stay when in Aguas Calientes.
Simply outstanding! We arrived one afternoon and stayed overnight to take the bus to Machu Picchu early in the morning. We got a HUGE room in the lower level of the hotel with 3 huge beds and a very spacious bathroom. The food in the restaurant was really good. I strongly recommend the chicha morada. The front desk people were very accommodating. LOVED IT and would for sure come back to this hotel if I go back to Machu Picchu.
If you are looking for first class accommodations in Machu Picchu, look no further. We were met at the train station where the whisked our bags away to the hotel while we started our visit to the ruins. Upon returning, from the moment you walk into the lobby you are treated like a royal. Our family was greeted with scented wash cloths, appetizers, and a wonder cocktail while we were being checked in. The rooms are clean and very nice. One of our rooms was on the river side, which is very noisy due to the rushing water. The other room was on the back side, which sits just feet from the railroad, making the room shake every time a train goes by. None the less, still an amazing hotel in this little town. Food was very good and the breakfast had lots of options. We were very thankful that the hotel held our bags for us while we visited the ruins until our train departed late evening. If you are visiting Machu Picchu, make the Sumaq your hotel choice, you won't be dissappointed.
WOW. There is nothing better than coming home after a long day! This is exactly how we felt when we walked into the Sumaq after a long day walking to Machu Picchu. The whole day was fabulous, but it was a cherry on top, when you walked into their beautiful lobby. A fabulous lady welcomed us into a living room, provided amazing refreshments and appetizers, and organized us. The hotel is so beautiful. There is beautiful artwork everywhere. Our room was stunning. The beds are so comfy and the shower is so warm and welcoming. They even left some yummy sweets in our room. We had dinner there both nights and the food was fabulous. I would say the best in Aguas Calientes. Everyone working at the Sumaq is accommodating and thoughtful. Thank you to everyone who made our trip to Machu Picchu even more memorable.
A first class hotel in the Machu Picchu town. Very comfortable rooms. Excellent service and staff attention to guests. The restaurant offerings were probably the best in the town but overall not great. Ideal as a base for a short visit to this historic site.
Had a wonderful stay at the Sumaq Hotel in Aqua Calientes during our trip to Machu Picchu. Can’t tell you how special the hot shower was after hiking the Inka trail to Machu Picchu. The Hotel looks out on the Urubamba river and is terrifically located to access the buses to Machu Picchu. The hotel is very nicely appointed, the bed is very comfortable and the food is the best in town. Great staff, excellent service, the team even carried our luggage to the train station to help us with our departure.
