This hotel was great for a one night stay to visit Machu Picchu - upon arrival, we were greeted with complimentary tea and a snack. The service was very good. Included in our rate was dinner at the hotel, which was convenient when we had a 5am wake up call the next morning to go up to the mountain. It is an easy walk into the main part of Aguas Calientes and to the bus stop and train station. The only negative is that our room was facing the river, which provided lovely views and the calming sound of water, but without screens on the balcony doors we couldn't enjoy the cool air because of the bugs. We were also awoken in the middle of the night by trucks/buses going by on because of the road being right in front of our room.
This hotel is in an excellent location for Machu Picchu and for walking into town. The food and service is excellent. They have an afternoon tea that is both relaxing and has some tasty treats. Here is the negative: our room was on the back side of the hotel. There are train tracks outside of our window (4th floor) and the trains run all night long. I counted 11 of them from about midnight until the morning. And as an added experience, some blow their train horns! We met other travelers who slept on the street/river side and they said the sound was better, but still loud with buses, people etc. Great location, but bring ear plugs!
We stayed at the Sumaq for one night when visiting Machu Picchu. Lovely decor. Very spacious room facing the river. Great service. Good buffet breakfast. Pleasant staff. Located not far from the train station.
This hotel was located on the farthest end of the "strip" if you will. Once getting off the train, head toward Machu Picchu itself and the last hotel on the stretch was the hotel. It was wonderfully located, in a very peaceful part of town. The staff greeted us with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks, and a snack. Our bags were kindly carried to our room, and our room overlooked the river with a balcony view. The rooms were very clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had complimentary breakfast, cooking classes, cocktail at happy hour (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), tea time and dinner. The food was amazing, such a variety of options at all meals. All the staff spoke English fluently, which made it easy to navigate around town and within the hotel. I received an hour Swedish massage which was fabulous - I just have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. I enjoyed the quietness of the hotel as well as every interaction/thing I did in the town/around the hotel. If you're looking to hike up to Machu Picchu yet stay in town, this would definitely be the closest hotel to the base of the trailhead. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in town prior to their visit to Machu Picchu.
Lovely hotel which we stayed in as part of our tour. Great meals and complimentary afternoon tea also which was very welcome after a day exploring the ruins. We were a little disappointed after asking for a river view to be given a garden and train track view but otherwise we're very happy with this hotel.
Fantastic positioning in Aquas. The hotel sent someone to pick us and our bags up from the station without even asking. The hotel is beautiful and the check in process easy and relaxing with a welcome drink and canapés. The room was very good and the food which was included in our package was delicious! The hotel also arranged for a private tour guide for MP and he was fantastic! (Eddy Huanca Ismodes) he took us to all the secluded spots for photos and not only explained everything but took pictures along the way. Overall a fantastic hotel!
The location is very comfortable to reach the town as you have to walk everywhere. The hotel itself is very nice, comfortable rooms and common areas. One nice detail is that the Check in is done sitting down, they give you an refreshing infusion. Once in the room a passion fruit dessert awaited. To have fresh air, opening a window is a must as there is no AC, but be aware of mosquitoes. The Train passing by until late at night is a minus, but its heard all over town so there is no escaping it. Staying during your visit to Macchu Picchu in this hotel makes the whole experience above average! Try the Lama Steak in the restaurant its very good, and the included breakfast was both hearty and served with excellent service.
Best welcome ever at a hotel. Friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. Rooms facing the river are better, we were at the back and the train does pass through but didn't bother us too much. About 5 minutes to the bus stop and less than 10 to the train station. room has everything you could want , good breakfast and excellent dinner were included in our rate. Free fast internet throughout the hotel
It's a good hotel, but is not amazing. It's very overpriced, and for the price everything needs to be better. A rate around US400 is too much for this hotel. Maybe you can try Belmond, in front of the Sanctuary for this price.
Great hotel, friendly staff, great rooms 3 beds in one room!!! , lots of towels, the passing train 🚂 right by your window was exciting but scary! Great location, right next to all shops and restaurant. Food was excellent, especially their breakfast buffet.
