You've read other reviews, so I'll simply add -- This is right across the street from the river, and you'll want to walk along it. No noise issues for me, except for the river waves. It's also a short walk from "downtown," including a very small grocery store nearby. The shuttle to Machu Picchu stops here if and when you alert the driver. Alternatively, if you are brave and strong you can take the Inca Trail to the top!
We stayed for one night at Sumaq hotel and can only say positive things. The staff is helpful and friendly and the rooms are beautiful. You have a beautiful view from your window overlooking the river and can feel connected with nature. I definitely will recommend this hotel to others whenever they decide to visit Machu Picchu.
Stayed here as part of Princess cruise and land tour of South America including Peru. We were given a wonderful welcome. The hotel is close to the shuttle and rail station plus shops. Food and service impeccable. The staff could not have done more.
As most people overnight here , we can only comment on our one night stay . The hotel was very comfortable , definitely 4 not 5 stars but in great location by the river and a short uphill walk to the shops , main square, market and importantly bus and train stations . Food good and staff friendly . Good place to stay for your Machu Picchu adventure
Beautiful small hotel right on the river. Friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful rooms overlooking the river. The small resturant suprised us .... the food was outstanding. Great value too! We will come back.
Very nice rooms in a nice location on the hike to Machu Picchu from town. As pointed out by others, not the quietest location, but we no issues. The only disappointment was the restaurant. Although the dinner came with our room cost, it was not as good as hyped. Our entries were good, with some selection, but nothing stood out. As well, the charge quite a bit for a carry out lunch for the hike.
Only stayed for one night but was very impressed with the hotel. If you are looking for more of a cultural feel to embrace the city vibes, this is definitely not your hotel, but if you are looking for a luxurious stay where you don’t have to leave the property, look no further. The Sumaq property is gorgeous, and is centrally located to both the city and the bus stop for Machu Picchu. The rooms are on the smaller side, but the finishing’s are all very well done. Huge flat screen TV, Iphone docks, usb outlets, and a spacious bathroom big enough for a family. Our room overlooked the river which as such a beautiful view. While the hotel is a bit pricey for the area, they go above and beyond with the amenities. For starters they definitely make sure you are well fed. When we arrived we were greeted with a small plate of snacks, a welcome drink, and had another welcome dessert and drink waiting for us in room. The hotel also serves high tea around 4 with additional hot/cold snacks and drink options. The dinner is also included in your stay which includes 3 courses (app, entre, dessert). The food and service were incredible, especially considering we were not being charged extra. There are two things I would take note of: The doors to the room do not shut completely and thus it can get quite loud. I am a very light sleeper so I had to wear ear plugs. They will charge you $25 per person to use the “spa” shower which is a bit ridiculous considering the price of the hotel and the fact that their spa is really just one room in a basement. Other than the small cons listed above, we had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back!
This is a very nice hotel in a very touristy town. Service good. Restaurant was great - maybe best we had in Peru. The downside is that our room was on the 5th floor right next to the trains. Trains run until midnight and start again at 5:30. And some of the rooms have no AC - so the only air is to open the window - sounds like the train will run you over. Very bad night sleep. We told the front desk and they comped some drinks. I would recommend either asking for a river view room or skipping the stay and just eat dinner there.
We stayed here one night on a tour of the area. sumac hotel had very good customer serivce, with a full orientation, including an appetizer, a drink, and explanation of hotel services upon arrival. Rooms were spacious and well decorated. Only has a queen bed but it was comfortable. AC available. Spacious bathroom. Robes and slippers for guests. No gym on site. Hotel is situated on the river (beautiful) but directly behinf is the railway tracks. Trains went by (right by my window) at 930 pm and early train at about 6 am. Loud and annoying, but really not all that frequent. Breakfast and dinner were very good. Recommend aasking for a room facing the river.
Very clean, rooms are spacious, staff very professional and good location. The hotel restaurant was also very good. I had dinner and breakfast in the hotel and the food was really good. You will get a complimentary pisco sour on the lobby.I noticed that most rooms have a balcony with the river view. The hotel has good service for your bags. On the morning I checked out, I also visit Machu Picchu again in the morning and when I went to the train station to get my train, my bags were waiting for me on the station. I didn't have to go back to the hotel and get them.
