On check-in room was not available for 30 minutes. We were early so acceptable. Staff helpful and polite, without going over the top. Lovely, clean, spacious room. Big Tv, but could not get it working. Got a wheelchair access room, but did not ask for one. Maybe the staff know something about the future. Doubt it. Nice bar, good pint and not too costly. At a wedding, nice weeding room, well laid out. Excellent menu, lovely food. Wedding band called Harlequin. The BEST ever.
Bed was extremely comfortable... views beautiful over the bay. Grounds were lovely. Staff were very friendly. Room a little shabby. Location was perfect there is a lot to see & do in Kinsale. Dinner on balcony was lovely but expensive.
My sister and I toured Ireland for our birthdays. I chose this spot on her birthday, so she'd have a nice place to stay and celebrate. We LOVED the stunning views!. We literally just sat and stared for ages. I would therefore recommend this hotel for the views. Be sure to request a third floor room as we noticed the other floors didn't have the picture windows. My only complaint is the restaurant. Neither of us overly enjoyed our dinner and found the restaurants in town much cheaper and better. Also, the manager on duty for breakfast (Suresh, I believe) was quite rude. I waited ages at the sign that said to wait. I finally tracked down a bar employee and they told me someone would be right out. I timed the next wait as slightly under 4 minutes. The manager took me to my table without apologizing for the wait. Later, I was again waiting several minutes for the hot breakfast before I served it myself. The manager made it clear he was not happy with this (but if it's not self service shouldn't there at least be someone on the floor?) My sister and I asked for ice water (the ice at the buffet was melted) and had to all twice for it (waiting several minutes in between). So as long as you can skip the restaurant OR spend some time there waiting for service... I'd recommend the hotel!
Great hotel but difficult to locate unless you had been there before.Great place and the staff amongst the best in the world The sign on the Cork-Kinsale road needs to be at leat 1000 x 750 mm. maybe even 2000 x 1500mm.
Attended a wedding here recently- the food was outstanding and plentiful, drinks were reasonably priced and the room was lovely. Lots of staff in the restaurant, but the quality of breakfast could have been improved.
We tried this place based on this site's reviews. We had upgraded to one of the best rooms with a wonderful view of the river and countryside. Unfortunately it was an unexpectedly warm period and we needed the air conditioning on full blast. Well, it failed and we roasted in 80+ degree heat overnight. The hotel tried to fix the HVAC but to no avail. We moved our room for the second night and this room had better HVAC but it soured our experience. This was all very odd because the two story lobby with floor to ceiling windows had excellent cooling. I should have slept on one of the lobby couches instead. The breakfast buffet was good but the kitchen closes at 9pm and not serving food in the restaurant or via room service after 9pm is pathetic. My wife enjoyed the spa though.
Like many other reviews - great location and view but service is 2 star not 4 . Staff look at their feet when you give them polite feedback and no water in the rooms or with turn down - and if you order vie room service it's 25 EUro!!! Air Con didn't work properly either . Great property but needs better training and management !!
The property is pretty but my stay here has been awful so far. When we checked in, at 4:25, that had us assigned to a room with a double bed. WE paid extra to get an executive twin sea view. they didn't have either room ready so they had to make us wait for 30 minutes to get the room, which was supposed to be ready at 4. When i asked what they would do to compensate the inconvenience, the woman said that breakfast is $15 euro. how many people are you? When i said 2, she said she would give me 1 free breakfast. Are u kidding me? We finally got to the room, but They didn't put a top sheet on the beds and the beds were made very sloppy. The bathroom floor tiles are all broken. The worst: there are multiple spiders in here. When we called, they sent someone up with a broom. We said we need bug spray and he left to get some and never came back. WE called again and another guy came. used a broom. didn't kill the spider. can't wait to get out of here in the morning!
Stayed here for three nights this week. Found reception staff very unhelpful and would even go so far as to say patronising. Told reception 3 times that telephone in room wasn't working and was treated as though we were stupid. Restaurant was awful. Food was not prepared by chef I'm sure. I had seafood platter which was so basic and absolutely tasteless. Complete waste of money. Furniture was very tired, dining room furniture was dirty. Waitresses' uniforms did not look clean which is a very basic requirement. The fact that a shuttle bus wasn't provided was very disappointing. Could not possibly eat in restaurant a second time and it cost us about €50 in taxis for 2 nights to get into town. In fact on both nights we were waiting for the taxi to pick us up there were other couples too waiting for a taxi. Why couldn't reception staff at least co-ordinate this service for guests? Kinsale itself is fabulous but would definitely advise anyone against staying at the macdonald.
Stayed here a few months ago as part of their Escapes.ie package. Staff were the best takeaway from the hotel, from reception, to the restaurant, to the spa. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived so we were given a nicer, large room facing the ocean. Whole place was very comfortable and laid back. Food in the restaurant was delicious, and the setting was absolutely beautiful. Pool and gym facilities were great and the spa was magnificent, great massages and the therapists were so nice and professional. Overall a great experience!
