A pleasant enough hotel located a little way outside of the city’s main attractions. Upon arrival check in was pleasant though a bit slow. The hotel had been booked several months in advance of a business meeting with local Cologne based colleagues, even though a disabled room for one of the guests with limited mobility had been requested at the time of booking the room originally allocated was not suitable for access, an alternative room was sought and allocated by the thoughtful receptionist. The hotel isn’t really suitable for those with disabilities as there are steps to toilets, restaurant and public areas. The room we were eventually given was incredibly tiny with space for the bed and not a great deal more. There was no view from our room, we were overlooking an emergency staircase in the rear of the hotel and there was no air com, the room was warm but we could open the window a little. Breakfast was typical cold buffet which was adequate though the cooked food on offer was minimal and not overly enticing, pretty basic. Good coffee was available though and service was helpful and friendly. Adjacent t the breakfast room is a courtyard which would be pleasant on sunny days. WI fi is available throughout the hotel, speed varied but on the whole adequate for business and general use. The TV offers a small number of basic channels in English with a number of German channels, OK for me as I speak German but my partner doesn’t so we were stuck with one or two news channels to entertain us before bedtime. We would stay again but would give more thought to the room required before agreeing to stay.
We recently spent three nights here. Check in was great! The staff were very helpful in all aspects ... from pointing us in the right direction to find a superb restaurant to finding an open pharmacy in the early evening. Our room was small and we've come to expect this when traveling in Europe. It had a queen size bed that was comfortable. We had clean, crisp linen and towels. Housekeeping was impeccable and we had a 'treat' left on our pillow each day. Our room overlooked the 'HOTEL' sign so the blackout curtain and drapes really helped keep out the light. The neighborhood nightlife was loud on Saturday night but the window really blocked out most of the noise. Breakfast was included in our room fee and there was no shortage of items to choose from. The cheesy scrambled eggs and the round meat balls (spicy!) was great to start your day off with! This hotel is close to transportation. It cost us 10 Euro to come from the train station by taxi. It's about a twenty minute walk to the Cologne Cathedral (The Dom). There are ample places to eat nearby and a grocery store for those late night cravings.
The Hotel is in a good position to access by walk nice recreation areas, stations, metro, bus and just 2 km far away from the Rein. Rooms are reasonably clean. The breakfast displays a wide selection and the quality is fair. Just one lift and you have to walk inside back and forth from room side to bar and breakfast side. No fitness room. Reception people fairly friendly and speck English too. The internal car park is really a nightmare to get in and our. So tight that there are bumpers everywhere and you seriously run the risk to scratch your car. In general a fair place (also in relation to the cost) but I deem you can get even equal alternatives.
Not really an option if you have mobility problems, as there are lots of steps and the lift in House 1 can not be accessed from the ground floor. Breakfast is not included in the room price, and is charged at 11 euros. A good breakfast can be got at a nearby bakery for about 5.5 euros. Helpful staff. Map of Cologne available free from reception.
This hotel is not that near to the main sights, but within a 2km walk - the city is very easy to walk around! The room is quite small and not the cleanest place I've stayed in. There's plenty to eat nearby and a funky laundromat with a lounge and drinks down the road, if you've been travelling for a while and need to do a wash! The rooms can get a bit hot, but reception will happily organise a fan for you.
We are currently staying in this hotel for a second time. The hotel and rooms are good and clean, staff are friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a hotel in a good location you can't go wrong with this hotel. Would certainly recommend and will be returning here again in the near future.
Every time we visit Cologne, which is at least 4 times a year, we book this hotel as you get excellent value for money and breakfast is always included in our rate. Moreover, it is perfectly located for us, in a lively area with plenty of clubs, bars and restaurants and right near the upscale shopping area of Mittelstrasse. I must say that over the years we've been put in different rooms and not all are quite as new, clean, large or comfortable, so I can agree/relate to some of the room comments/reviews. However,it is well worth the extra money to pay for a superior room as they're renovated and more spacious. When possible and available, the reception staff will cater to our needs when asking for a specific room number. The rooms overlooking the Hohenzollernring can get quite noisy over the weekend. We strongly advise to ask for a room overlooking the courtyard. Breakfast times are quite extensive over the weekend until 11h00, but beware that as from 10h30 they won't replete the food again. There's always a good selection of bread and yoghurts, sometimes even smoked salmon. No pastries and no fresh juices though, but then again it is only a 3* hotel.
Second stop on the tour and the hotel was not good . Rusty taps / old stained carpets / minimum staff - the pillows were as good as not being there . Both nites I hardly slept due to the noice levels . Rooms were stuffy and got super hot in the nite
This is a great hotel: very quiet, clean and well designed. Lots of space for clothes. A comfortable desk to work at. Very friendly and professional staff. It's also centrally located: close to university of cologne, as well as shopping. You can go to the DOM by a short tram ride or walk for about 15-20 mins.
I've been several times in this hotel for the handball Final4. It never was a 5 stars hotel, but price was good for the service. Unfortunately after 4 years staying here, I think I'm not coming back. The rooms last years were a little bit tired and old, while this year I got room 322 and 321 which were new but quite small. One of the problems was that checking-in on friday night I discovered that Wi-Fi was not working on our floor (it worked on the 2nd floor and in reception, but not in our rooms). I noticed it on Saturday morning and the only answer I got was that there was no technician in the house and they could only restart the router to see if it worked. On Sunday I insisted and got the same answer. On Monday morning at check-out time the problem was still there... so no Wi-Fi all the weekend is a major issue when you are abroad, as I had to pay roaming to be able to communicate from my room. We also had a problems during breakfast. It is supposed to be open until 11:00 during weekends, so on Saturday we went between 10:40 an 10:45. They already had run out of almost everything and they didn't bring some more. No bread for toasts, no glasses for juice, no eggs, no croissants,... when we asked the workers for more, they pointed with their finger their wristwatch and told "we are closing". I answer that no way, I was still on time and I wanted my breakfast. I had to contact up to 3 workers when finally the 3rd brought some of the missing things. When I reported to reception what happened, they we're not very understanding and told me that I should understand that's the way they work and the hotel was fully booked. Anyway, she told us that our breakfast would be refunded even if it was already payed with the booking. The last surprise was that during check-out they didn't refund it, so she lied to us...
