I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for a conference. The hotel was elegant, food was delicious and the service was impeccable. One night I invited a group of friends for drinks in the bar. We were having such a good time, no one noticed how late it was. When I asked for a last round of drinks and when they were closing, the bartender said "oh we actually closed nearly an hour ago but you were having such a good time I didn't want to interrupt"-gave us the last round and we quickly and happily called it a night. Great breakfast spread also, terrific rooms and just wonderful all around with a location that cannot be beat.

I spent one night in Hotel Excelsior Ernst in Cologne and liked it. The hotel is a bit old fashioned (they still use room keys!), but my room was spacious and very quiet. The location is also great, just a short walk to cathedral and near the rail station. The staff was very nice and professional. Might go back there again sometime in the future.

We can't thank the Excelsior team enough for making our stay such a pleasant experience. Travelling with a baby means we don't often take time to write a review. However, the impeccable service needs to be honoured. Thank you to the entire team. We had a wonderful stay and a great wedding anniversary, we felt very welcome and well taken care off. Excellent service! Many thanks.

Last week, I went for a romantic weekend break to Cologne in Germany with my husband. We decided that it would be nice to treat ourselves and stay at the 5* Excelsior Hotel Ernst. The hotel is the only member of “The Leading Hotels of the World” in Cologne. Location: Excelsior Hotel Ernst is situated in the historic Old Town center of Cologne. It has an ideal location as it is literally in front of the Cathedral which is the main tourist attraction. Excelsior Hotel Ernst is a perfect destination for any luxury seeking travelers, no matter whether you are going to Cologne as I did for a mini-break or for business. This Grand 5 star Hotel has been family-owned since 1863 and it combines valuable traditions with important innovations in a stylish manner. Service: The reception desk is open 24 hours. As soon as we entered the hotel, we were welcomed by extremely helpful and smiley receptionist. As we arrived way to early, she offered to call us when our room is available. We dropped our bags at the hotel and went for a lunch. When we arrived back, our room was ready and we were taken to it by another friendly receptionist-Marc. Rooms: Excelsior Hotel Ernst has 137 rooms and suites some of them with view of the cathedral as well as 12 meeting rooms. We stayed at the Grand Deluxe room on the second floor. When we arrived we had a welcome letter and some snacks waiting for us in our room which was a great personal touch that made our experience even more special. As you can see from the pictures below, I loved my brownie. Our room was elegant, spacious, bright and stylish. It was furnished with soft carpets, spacious desk, modern armchairs and a very comfortable bed. The walls were decorated with a were a few aesthetic photographs of famous landmarks in Cologne and mirrors. In the corridor we had a large wardrobe and safe. Our Grand Deluxe room was also equipped with Air Conditioning and central heating which could be individually regulated, light control panel which was located at both bedside tables, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, all-inclusive minibar. In addition, the room was equipped with the best equipment available: - SuitePad; - Wi-Fi connection to Internet; - Direct telephone line. - Our king-size bed was extremely comfortable and after a day of sightseeing we fell asleep almost immediately. Bathroom: Our marble bathroom had a classic décor, a bathtub and a shower. There was a selection of natural bath toiletries from ASPIRE London collection. It also had a make-up mirror and heated towel rail. In addition to soft towels we were also provided with some slippers and soft bath gowns which were perfect for lounging in and for our visits to the relaxation area. Facilities: Excelsior Hotel Ernst features some magnificent ceilings, doors and luxurious furniture that will satisfy even the most demanding guests who appreciate intimate and personalized spaces making their stay an unforgettable experience created to dream. Breakfast is offered for a surcharge and provides a selection of cold and warm dishes to choose from. As my husband doesn’t normally eat breakfasts, we decided to skip it as it was 32 EUR per person per night. All guests have access o the relaxation area located on the fifth floor so if you fancy a steam bath or sauna then you should definitely check it out. There is also a gym available at no extra charge. Excelsior Hotel Ernst is a destination for food lovers and drink connoisseurs alike and it offers something to suit all tastes: - Restaurant Hanse Stube – Innovative French cuisine with regional influence; - Restaurant taku – The house of East Asian hospitality, awarded with one Michelin star; - Piano Bar – Premium bar offering a large variety of cigars and live piano music; - Excelsior Hotel Ernst Afternoon Tea inspired by Pierre Hermé. Overall experience: Excelsior Hotel Ernst represents the charm which fusions the past and present of Cologne. It was definitely one of the most exclusive and elegant hotels I have stayed in recently. The location was perfect and service was faultless so I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who plans to travel to Cologne. I would love to stay in this magnificent hotel again one day!

Truly a 5 star resort from the moment you enter. Rooms service and food were all the best. Would highly recommend. Bathrooms and amenities to the warm staff made our stay special. Bar was quite popular and rooms were spacious.

Excellent spicy bloody mary, hand mixed...All the circumstance with none of the pomp and in a great classy setting. Bar is the right when you walk in. Great staff. Free bar nibbles. Very relaxed atmosphere.😁

My colleague and I stayed here over the Carnivale weekend. Location is second to none with easy access to the station, shopping, cathedral and right on the parade route. The rooms are beautiful in the older part of the hotel where we stayed and very large. The bathroom was enormous but there was some mould growing on the marble in the shower. On arrival we requested a kettle and some tea bags be brought to our room (can't believe a hotel this expensive does not have these facilities available in the rooms). A very helpful gentleman brought these to our room for us. 3 days later we requested some an additional 4 teabags and the same gentleman was not so helpful. He came with the teabags and a bill for 36 euro. This just for the teabags themselves- not for a ready made hot beverage. I refused to pay for those and he was very taken aback and quite rude about it. We had not realised this service was not included with the room- particularly as it is standard in many lesser hotels I have stayed at. We ate at the bar one night and the food wasn't great but we did hear good reviews from our colleagues about their room service meals. Altogether we did have a good stay- it is just a shame one incident put a damper on it for us.

Just stayed at Excelsior Hotel Ernst for the International Dental Show. The hotel was excellent in every way. From the time of check in, everything was exceptional. The staff could not have been more accommodating or knowledgeable. Location and food were excellent. The only thing that prevented me from a 5 rating was no air conditioning!

Very near to the cathedral, very nice room it's like traveling with aristocrat in the past. The drinks in the refrigerator is free. However even the people in the front desk is very aristocratic. We waited for a long hour to get a room. Treatment with clients are not good. They look as it seems I have no money since am not European.

İ travel all over Germany staying in different Hotels. This is one of the best. Excellent service and very nice rooms. Nice bar and the restaurants in the Hotel both Japanese and İtalian/French are both excellent. Dont hesitate and stay in this Hotel in Cologne.
