Hôtel Les Brises

Beautiful harbor side setting

Very nice, clean, modern hotel in an ideal setting by the harbor. Enjoyed watching the tides come in and out and all the activities from paragliding to children sailing classes. Breakfast and service were wonderful.

Mercure La Rochelle Vieux Port Sud Hotel

Close, but not too close, to the buzz.

La Rochelle is a vibrant seaport, both vibrant and antique. The Mercure is situated next door to the Aquarium (and the excellent seafood restaurant Le Maree). It's a modern hotel, though like most European hotels it's smaller than what we're accustomed to in the US. That's to be expected, though. It's perfectly situated on the marina but an easy block (along the marina) from the chaos of the port itself. We were very pleased to have been able to enjoy the energy of the town and then retreat to such an oasis of elegant calm. Also like many French hotels, the shower is not fully enclosed so the floor gets wet. A small point and not unique to this hotel. The breakfasts were excellent, with a view of the marina and town, a relaxed way to start the day. My daughter went to the university there and has now lived in La Rochelle for 15 years. As long as we reserve in time to get a room, we always stay at Le Mercure to make sure we enjoy the trip from the US as a vacation, not just a family visit.

Novotel La Rochelle Centre

excellent hotel, comfortable room

excellent hotel, spacious comfortable room with good bed; gated parking; quiet; walking distance to center of charming town. Somewhat difficult to find. Get a good map or gps in your car if you are driving to La Rochelle.
