I'm kind of almost reluctant to write this review because I don't want too many people to know just how great Castaway Island is, in case the place is booked out the next time we want to come! Just home from a wonderful near-faultless week in Castaway Island. While the island itself is amazing - surrounded by crystal clear waters and a reef perfect for snorkelling - it's the people that make this place so magical. The staff genuinely love looking after the visitors, always greeting you with a cheerful 'Bula' - the pride they feel towards the island is clearly genuine. The highlight for us was the amazing snorkelling, both at nearby Honeymoon Island (where my 12 yo son saw his first shark!) and in the island's own 'house reef' (where my 11 yo daughter also cruised over a shark while she was stand up paddle boarding). The food was great (missing that French toast) and there was so much entertainment during the evening while you dined - from listening to the band, watching the night snorkeler's flash lights twinkling in the lagoon, to betting on the international toad race! The only small thing that bugged us was that smoking was allowed around the pools - if you had one or two people puffing away it was really quite off-putting because both pools are in relatively confined spaces. So my only suggestion would be to find a designated smoking spot on the island for those who can't go without. Staying at Castaway Island and soaking up the beauty of the South Pacific really brought home to me how important it is we care for this planet. You definitely get a strong sense of environmental concern staying there. The staff played a game with my kids on the beach where they had to guess how long different types of material take the degrade and I also spied an 'environmental council' holding a meeting near the dining area. Snorkelling around the reef you can see signs that some of the coral is dying, so it has made me come home even more determined to do my bit to protect the environment in a bid to prevent climate change and protect this precious and beautiful location. I hope other visitors come home feeling the same way.

From the time of disembarking to the point of leaving, we have had the most amazing time at Castaway. The kids still recall the fond memories they had. The staff are so friendly and kind and always with a smile. You'll not come across any staff who would not smile and greet you with a Bula... They really do make the place feel like home. The kids club - OMG.... the variety of activities you come up with for our little ones!!!! It was such an amazing performance you made them present to us at the Management Cocktail... Hats off to all the kids club staff... You guys are amazing... There is plenty to do with quite a lot of water sport activities on offer. The beaches were beautiful and the water so clear. So amazing for snorkelling and kayaking Vinaka to so many people who were so nice to us, but we must mention Lingo, Aseri, Semi, Apisolome - not forgetting Mika and Kuvini from the kids club. Vinaka vakalevu for making our visit so comfortable and enjoyable. We will always cherish the amazing memories we made at your lovely island and look forward to being there with you all again... Vinaka.... The Fernando family

We spent 11 nights on Castaway, our second visit. We had booked in 2018 so spent 13 months looking forward to returning. It really is the most magical place to spend time together. The gardens, bures and facilities are just lovely. Low key, relaxing and comfortable with a little bit of luxury. A massage or two in the hidden garden bures was a perfect way to end a day of swimming and snorkelling. The food is great, we put our kids on the adult meal plan which was perfect. My pre-holiday catch phrase was 36 meals I don't have to cook or clean up. It is so much more than that. Being able to just relax and throw yourself into activities with the kids rather than worrying about the time is such luxurious freedom. eat when your hungry, send them to eat if they are and you are not. The beach is beautiful, the gardens lush and the options for activities broad enough that we left feeling like we still could have done more. If you or your partner works long hours in a demanding job the fact the island is largely Wifi free is an absolute gift. Lock the kids devices in the safe and get out and spend some quality time together. We went on multiple snorkelling trips, night snorkelling, handline fishing, catamaran lessons, kayaking and walks together. Talking, laughing and remembering how special family is. Scuba lessons were a special birthday treat for two of the family and they spent four days with the wonderful instructor achieving their certificate. All the staff across the island are just lovely. Warmth, care combined with efficient service makes it easy to feel at home and feel like they all really care about making you feel truly at home during your stay. Thank you Castaway team, we are so very glad we came back to see you all and feel very privileged to spend time with you all.

Castaway is a magical island and perfect getaway. From the moment you arrive (being serenaded as you disembark from the boat to the moment you leave (singing again) you are made to feel welcome and part of the Castaway family. We spent four relaxing nights there with our grown up children and loved it. Aseri was the highlight of our Castaway stay. She’d call out our names every time she saw us and made sure everything was ok. Loved her sense of humor and welcoming smile. Also thank you to Sam, Mary and Emily (at the adult pool) for your hospitality. Can’t remember everyone’s name but they were all wonderful. Loved the music during breakfast and dinner. Vinaka

We had the most amazing 4 nights at castaway. For us it was a special stay. It was our 4 month old baby’s first overseas trip. We also got engaged here. Thank you to Ben and Atu for making our engagement so amazing with a great snorkelling trip off the sandbar. Lastly a massive thank you to our babysitter Oli!! You made it possible for us to have some time alone, and you were amazing with Siena. Thank you, we can’t wait to be back!!!

We stayed 7 nights at Fiji with our three young children. We had a terrific stay- leaving feeling relaxed and refreshed. The island is perfect with many great activities. The island staff are excellent. We had the most wonderful babysitter Seini throughout our stay on the island who cared beautifully for our twin babies. Thank you! We look forward to returning!

Visited this beautiful resort for the first time and the friendly staffs really took care of all my needs. The food was great, the best friendly staffs and the atmosphere was so relaxing. Highly recommended. Hi5 for the great hospitality. Big Vinaka to the Castaway fam for making me feel so special.💖

From the moment we arrived on Castaway to the moment we left, we where treated and felt like family to the workers and even some of the other guest. Incredible time and beautiful island. Kids club! And all the beach activities was great, and the food was terrific. Thank you to all the castaway workers who made our trip so amazing

My adult son and I just returned from four days at Castaway and really enjoyed ourselves. We spent our time reading books on the lounge chairs next to our bure, drinking Mai-Tais at the pool bar (thanks, Emily!), and snorkeling. The Castaway staff are incredibly nice and friendly -- they turn an otherwise beautiful property into a warm and welcoming environment. If I were in the region again, I would return. Transportation: We arrived at the hotel via helicopter and departed via seaplane (both with Pacific Air). Given our flight schedules from New Zealand, a helicopter arrival definitely gave us another 1/2 day at the resort instead of arriving boat; departure via seaplane did not give us additional time. The resort staff handled our arrival and departure very efficiently without us having to touch a bag. Bures: We stayed in a South-facing beachfront bure, and would do so again. Very quiet and private (stunning view of the ocean, including sunset), and much closer to the water than the North-facing bures. We stayed in #29, which had the benefit of being about 30 feet from the pool That said, if I had young children, I might stay in a North-facing bure, which is on the resort's big sandy beach (South-facing bures do not have a beach right in front of their units, though you can go snorkeling/swimming). While the main bed in our bure was incredibly comfortable, it's worth nothing that the other two beds/day couches are more basic and best suited for kids and young adults who are grateful they're getting a free vacation. Overall, we walked into the bure and said "wow." Food: Overall, the food at the resort is fine. Frankly, I've never gone to an island resort expecting great food. The closest at Castaway is Restaurant 1808, which is outstanding. The breakfast buffet was good, with an egg station and plenty of fruit, potatoes, pancakes and toast. We had one bad dinner experience at the main restaurant (hard to believe that grilled fish and pasta main courses could be so bad), but subsequent lunches (hamburger was good) there led us to believe that our dinner experience might have been an outlier. The pizza at the Sundowner is pretty good, with lots of different choices and prepared quickly. I would do the meal plan -- not worth worrying about the high prices on the menus. At the Wednesday night Fijian dinner (which was fine), we were the only men wearing the "required" sula sarongs (the message board was very clear that it was required) -- so men (and women) should absolutely not view them as required. I'm not really sure why the resort makes such a big deal about it when nobody complies, other than to get people to buy sulas in the gift shop.

We did a day trip to Castaway Island - and are glad we did. The boat trip over was about 1.5 hours, and my daughter got seasick, but the trip was still worth it. The kind staff, and island nurse made sure we had a sea legs tablet for the return trip, and we had no issues after that. The beach is like a postcard scene, and the water crystal clear and warm. Paddle boarding was a small extra cost since we were day trippers, but still worth it. Lunch was part of our package, and was tasty and served in the restaurant overlooking the ocean - can't beat that. We would definitely recommend, and go back if we're ever fortunate enough to get back to Fiji.
