The hotel is showing its age outside of the public areas. The hallways upstairs are dingy. Our room needed updating and the carpet needed a thorough cleaning. We had two meals at the hotel, a very overpriced buffet breakfast ($29 per person) and late evening meal at the bar. The food was not very good in both cases. There was a bizarre security operation at the front door, which might comfort some but it had the opposite effect on me. I did not feel unsafe on the street until I entered.
the hotel is located around teh corner from the Tulip Farah hotel that was bombed in 2006 so that makes security at all the hotels in the area very tight. The staff is not very freindly but, noticed that they are better trained than the other hotels that I have stayed at in Morocco. Location is OK and the rooms are generally clean though the design is a bit off. the toliet is seperate from the rest of the bathroom without a sink. So once you finish your business you have to move to the other bathrrom to wash your hands. In any case all the hotels that I have stayed at in Morocco do not have very good service or good rooms. They have not invested in comfort and they primarily cater to european/french travlers. So as an amercian traveling in Morocco you must lower your expectations.
The hotel was very nice and in a good location in the centre of the city with lots of action around. The food in the hotel was not the best and so that is why I could not give it a 5 star rating....and we are very seasoned travellers. The staff was friendly and spoke English well, and were helpful and nice. The room was nicely appointed and had an in room safe which worked and the shower was fabulous with great pressure. The price was right and we enjoyed our stay there, if, of course, you need to be in Casablanca...which quite frankly is just another big city and has none of the charm and wonderful sites and magic of either Fez or Marrakech.
