Stayed here for a weekend while visiting our daughter at university. It is an ideal location close to the city cente and mermaid quay. Its only a good ten/fifteen minute walk to the centre. Just follow your nose, keep going straight, cut through the house by the river and follow signs to John lewis and your there. The same to mermaid quay, even closer. Turn left out of hotel and follow the road. Beautiful area with fantastic restaurants and bars. Hotel is in a quiet location right on the river. Refurbished rooms are lovely. King sized beds. Staff very helpful. Breakfast perfect for a good start in the morning. Takeaway coffees too. Parking at the hotel is very reasonable too.
Stayed here several times working nights and have always found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. Hotel a bit basic and breakfast is rather average but overall a good deal . For some reason trip advisor wants me to write at least 200 words but hey what is there to say it's a holiday inn😋
I was booked into this hotel for 2nights into a double standard room due to work related, late in the evening so couldn’t see much outside, checking in was easy fast, male staff member didn’t speak much. Went to room 104 that was on the 1st floor right next to the lift 🙈 ( 2 single beds) couldn’t be bothered to go back down as was tired so pushed beds together. Room seemed clean & tidy until I pushed beds together a dirty Nando’s food bag with sauce in it... mmmmm. (This is when I start to check the rooms) Room was cold and only lighting that was working was bed side lights and bathroom, due to it being late made a hot drink settled in for the night, room next to a lift (clunk clunk of the door opening & closing & voices outside my door) gave up on the tv and went to bed. Up early in the morning for work, left a card on door do not disturb and much appreciated nobody went into the room, nice clean towels left outside my door in a bag 👍🏻 Breakfast was all ready out when I went down at 6.50am continental and cooked breakfast perfect! Adequate for my needs even with a takeaway latte, arrived back around 5pm went back to my room which was freezing realised the heating I’d left on wasn’t working, went to reception were they brought a portable heater up for me lol (young female staff could apologies enough she was lovely) Told her about lighting and rubbish in the room she said she would look at my bill to get something knocked off... weather it did or not is another thing as it was business booked. Food Menu was quite poor in restaurant about 7 items on it (2 sold out) but food came out quick and hot. Saturday night was worse than Friday arrival lift banging loud voices outside of lift, and being situated not only to a lift but next to the stairs that are concrete from top to bottom people up & down some with heels on 😢🙈 realising myself I was up at 6am it wasn’t going to be a great night. PRO’S* Comfy bed, good shower, great breakfast, lovely helpful young female member of staff( long blonde hair) CONS* No heating in room, rubbish in room, no lighting in my room, room nxt to lift and noisy concrete stairwell. Hopefully this place will be better once the construction and hopefully the rooms updated as the view over the river running passed would make a lovely place to stay.
Great hotel situated midway between the bay and the centre for shops, restaurants etc. Excellent wifi Situated midway between the bay and the centre, it is an ideal location. The breakfast is included and is good, wifi excellent, parking only £6 per day. The staff are helpful and friendly - just a lovely stay - thank you. Carole
Excellent location a stones throw away from the Bay and city centre with both easily walkable. Room was comfortable with a nice view, the bed was good and the breakfast excellent. Hotel was looking a bit tired beyond the reception area; rooms had no charging points next to the bed which isn’t that great in 2018, and the bathroom could do with being updated. Overall though you can’t argue with what we paid for!
What a lovely place to stay! Simple but good! Place was spotless and i had a lovely night's sleep. Breakfast was fab! Good selection of hot food, pastries, cereals, teas and coffees. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Booked this hotel as it was convenient and reasonable for Cardiff bay. Rooms were clean comfy beds and nice towels but you must remember to bring your own toiletries Staff were friendly and helpful . Not a bad walk from the bay but the taxi was less than £5 which is handy on a cold wet night I was pleasantly surprised at the breakfast enough choice and tasty Not a bad value for a budget hotel Will definitely use again
Stayed here one night and probably enough as the noise from the road was very loud. Check in great and speedy. Room facing river which we thought was great but the road noise on the far side was constant. New windows required. Room basic but good enough, the bathroom outdated. All clean though. Breakfast was plentiful but Luke warm. Close to Cardiff Bay so pleasant warm next morning, Carparking expensive and should be included.
Staff were excellent. Very efficient check in and check out, quiet (I had a rear facing room) and overall a good night's sleep. However, there are a couple of negatives. 1. There is no way that you can walk to the Millennium Stadium in 14 minutes as they claim on their website (well, maybe if you're Sir Mo Farah!). I just about made Cardiff Central in 19-20 mins, and I'm not a slow walker! If you don't mind the £5 odd taxi fare, take a taxi instead. 2. The bar has an awful choice! Why do hotels think the only draft lager we all drink is Fosters or equivalent weak lager? I opted for the Magners bottles, but £4 a bottle for a small bottle - what a rip off! Service at the bar was good though. 3. Breakfast - excellent! Both quality of food and staff should be congratulated. And finishing at 11:00 is good if you want a lie in.
We stayed here for 3 nights. Nice quite and safe location with pleasant surroundings. The rooms are well equipped and the beds comfortable. Free wi-fi and an excellent breakfast buffet in the morning. Wonderfully helpful management and staff . Small drinks and food bar on site for that last drink or bite before bed. Easy 15 minute walk to downtown Cardiff or Cardiff Bay ( $10 cab ride to the downtown or station .) I will definitely stay here again.
