What to See in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is a coastal city in the east coast in South Carolina. Thanks to its subtropical climate and location on the center of a large, continuous stretch of beach, Myrtle Beach is one of the major tourism centers in the United States.

Because of the millions of visitors each year, Myrtle Beach is home to a wide range of tourist attractions. While the beaches are the place to be to enjoy the weather, the town offers a wide range of entertainment venues, such as golf courses, amusement parks, an array of shops and malls, and hundreds of restaurants. Seafood dining especially is popular. There are also dinner theaters and nightclubs. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk has been recognized as one of the best US boardwalks, an important feature is the observation wheel looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.

Would you rather go out in nature while visiting the area? Myrtle Beach State Park has almost a mile of Grand Strand beach and is an important location for camping, swimming, hiking, biking, and fishing. Besides that, you will find natural areas in the surrounding. For example, the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge is close by. If you are fine with a 90 minute drive, you can even head up north to beautiful Lake Waccamaw.

Myrtle Beach hosts some very important events each year. During Ontario’s spring break, Canadian-American Days (or Can-Am Days) are organized and thousands of tourists head to the area for a week of events. A food and wine festival named Coastal Uncorked is held annually in late spring and in June recently graduated high school seniors take over Myrtle Beach for Senior Week. The professional fireworks shows along the oceanfront make Myrtle Beach one of the prime destination for Fourth of July.

Are you visiting Myrtle Beach with the family? The town has some great amusement and attraction parks. Head to Family Kingdom Amusement Park or have some fun in the water at the Myrtle Waves Water Park. It is one of the largest water parks on the East Coast. Broadway at the Beach is also a popular destination as it has something for every member of the family to enjoy. Go to the observation wheel at the beach and you can visit the aquarium as well.

Myrtle Beach is located between other popular destinations, as Wilmington, North Carolina (a 1.5 hr drive) and Charleston, South Carolina (a 2.5 hr drive). In case you have seen most of what you planned on in Myrtle Beach, get in the car and drive out to those cities for a more diverse experience of the overall region.
