See all John Wayne car rentals

Orange County is Southern California’s premier destination for beaches and thrilling theme parks. Also known as “The OC”, Orange County’s warm weather, marinas, and golf courses make it an ideal travel destination to get away from the daily grind and relax.

As it is conveniently located between Los Angeles and San Diego, you can plan more getaways to these popular neighbor cities with a rental car. Alternatively, you can also venture out to nearby coastal towns, or if you are feeling adventurous, head for an epic road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway.

What to See in Orange County

Orange County boasts 150 acres of theme parks and is home to the iconic Disneyland Park. Let your imagination run wild and spend time exploring “the happiest place on Earth”. Disneyland Park offers a fun day out for the entire family and the theme park includes roller coasters, shopping centers, fireworks, and restaurants.

With 42 miles of sandy beaches and warm weather all year round, visiting a beach is a must in Orange County. The OC’s picturesque shores have often been compared to the French Riviera and beaches like the Laguna Beach, Newport Municipal Beach & Pier, and Huntington State Beach offer phenomenal views of the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy lots of activities, such as a romantic gondola ride, kayaking, cruising on a yacht, bathing, surfing, horseback riding, and swimming. Orange County also has many tidal pools, where you can spot sea urchins, hermit crabs, anemones, and fish.

For scenic drives along the coast, hop in your rental car and drive along California’s Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1). This highway is one of the most scenic drives in the country and it covers 500 miles in total. For a day of costal driving in Orange County, start your drive at Dana Point and end at Seal Beach, west of The OC. Along the way, stop at the 1,000 Steps Beach, a hidden gem with volleyball courts, tide pools, and caves. When the tide is low, walk through the cave to discover a small cove. Other stops along this route include Crystal Cove State Park, a three mile state park with beaches, coves, cliffs, biking, and hiking.
