The Portswood V&A Waterfront

I was with my husband and two sisters in Cape Town. We wanted a hotel that was very well located and reasonably priced. This hit the mark on both of those. Very reasonable and perfectly situated just a very short safe walk to the waterfront. Hotel staff was lovely. Concierge was very very helpful. Breakfast was included. It was much more than we expected. There was an option to eat at the sister hotel next door, the Commodore. We ate there a couple mornings in their lovely dining room. We had a nice corner room, room 401. My only suggestion is there was only one outlet on the wall. The ones near the desk were hard to get to. Thanks for a wonderful stay in a remarkable city!

The hotel is about 5 mins walk to the V & A waterfront so is in a perfect location to explore the area. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the hotel was clean. The rooms are a reasonable size and well maintained, the one thing that needs improvement are the bed which me and my girlfriend both found uncomfortable.

Our room was small, dingy and noisy. Bathrooms need updating and more space. Staff at the reception and lobby were not very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Location is good but there are lots of other better hotels in the same area. Doesn't have a gym or spa within the hotel, have to go next door to the Commodore, I would just book with them, the next time.

We were impressed by the history of this hotel and also it's closeness to everything at the waterfront. It does not appear as glamorous as others, but was very comfortable for our needs and the bar / waiting staff were informative. There is much to see and do in Cape Town!

Our room was neat and tidy but so small you couldn't swing a cat. The room was below, what appeared to be an extractor fan which made a deafening sound all day and all night. We had called maintenance twice to turn it off to be able to rest. To make matters worse at 8.30 in the morning we had house keeping banging on all the doors on our floor shouting " housekeeping". Bad service at breakfast. Staff entertaining private conversations and ignoring guests. We had to ask for cutlery which was missing on our breakfast table as well as serviettes. We where brought coffee after we managed to get staff attention. Most Front desk staff was friendly and oblidging. An overall sorry experience.

The PortsWood was ideally situated centrally to everything but we found the service and the rooms lacking for what really should be up market luxury hotel. We and our party were very disappointed and the staff was not helpful at all when we had some problems which for what you are paying was extremely disappointed. This one not to be repeated on our next trip to Cape Town.

We enjoyed 5 nights stay. We arrived in Cape Town after along flight from Australia and were so pleased to find our room was ready and not having to wait til 2pm for check in. This enabled us to have a good rest before we started to explore our surroundings. The staff were great, helpful where possible. We ate in the restaurant having breakfast and a couple of evening meals, enjoying every occasion. The room wasn't big but very comfortable and ample room for us. Even the view was pleasant overlooking the courtyard and seeing glimpses of the Waterfront. The hotel is within walking distance of V and A Waterfront and there is public transport close by. I can totally recommend this place to stay.

We had a very nice stay at The PortsWood.. The room met our needs and the location to the V & A Waterfront was steps away. We were always greeted as we entered each day which is a nice touch. The breakfast was plentiful with a variety of hot food, danish, and cereal. The made to order omelets were my favorite. One morning when I wasn't feeling well a server put together a tray of food for my husband to give me! After leaving Cape Town we were advised that we left money in the safe! The management contacted our travel agent and they coordinated efforts to return our money. We are very thankful and grateful to the staff for their honesty and excellent service.

Highly recommended. Excellent experience here. Great location close to the waterfront restaurants, shops, cafes, tours to Robben Island, and downtown. Very friendly and professional staff, and high quality restaurant. Warm, comfortable and clean rooms at affordable rates.

The best points about the hotel are the location and the service. The room wasn't anything special, but that was fine for us. It is very convenient, a very short walk, to the waterfront, and the valet parking was included (aside from tips). Very easy in and out. We had driven out in the boonies, and the rental car was filthy, and they took care of washing the car for us at a reasonable rate. The breakfast was very nice, lots of fruit, juice, waffles, cereals, very substantial, but the best was the omelets cooked to order with malay spices. Delicious. They even made up a take-up-to-the-room tray for sleep-in. The people working there made things easy. Would definitely stay there again.
