I have stayed here many time and always feel at home. The staff always greet you with a smile, the facilities are always well kept and clean. This hotel has been around for a while and there are signs that some maintenance is needed but that only adds to its charm for me. Food and drinks always high standard. My only complaint would be the decor is a little stark in the front area. A few years ago it was remodelled and I think I preferred the "old leather" look.
Upon arrival I received my welcome letter at check in... stating dear valued guest. No personalisation... seems they only personalize your welcome letter if you in the executive suite. The signage of where the rooms are situated are poor. Got to my room not smelling fresh at all. Carpets and couch dirty. Plugs not working correctly. The bedside lamps not working. Opened the sliding door to get fresh air... but only to struggle in closing it where it took two of us to do so. I'm really appalled by how the standards have dropped after a so-called refurbish. There's no point in refurbishing the front of the hotel and the suites yet your standard rooms look like they look. No porters to assist with luggage and some floors had no warm water. I'm sad that this hotel is what it is...!
Bed hard and not flat - you have to be careful not to fall off. Wooden door with a piece broken out. Pillow ripped on the side. No water or drinks in the fridge - you have to ask for it. Limited breakfast. Unimpressive service.
60 people conference - a one day event with all 60 employees and spouses staying over for a function and breakfast. Conference facilities and service were great. Function venue, food and service were great. Room was a little "tired". Breakfast venue and quality were great - service average. Bar service in the R&A bar was diabolical.
Great hotel in for visiting the wine lands, around Somerset West/stellenbosh. Clean , safe hotel with lovely staff and beautiful gardens. Shopping mall across the rd . , would recommend . 👍😊. Swimming pool not heated!!!! Just jump in
I had a couple of clients flying down and we needed to hire a meeting room for the day. From preparing the room to their friendly staff and scrumptious meals it was the perfect venue for our meeting. Great value for money. I will definitely book them again.
Spent a few nights here over two weeks for business. We were 4 colleagues who came together, two from India and two local. This hotel has lost me (and my colleagues) as a customer because of a disagreement over a bottle of water, which shouldn't have been a discussion in the first place. Upon check in, they didn't have a room ready for the one guy. Instead of handling it discretely, they have us in a panic for a bit until they sorted out admin on their side. My colleagues stayed for 2 weeks, had big suitcases and no-one offered to carry it for them to the rooms - which was a loooong walk from reception, including stairs with no lift. Also no offer of assistance to the pregnant lady in the group. Two of the colleagues had complimentary water and chocolates in their rooms, the other two had nothing, not even water. For R1500 ppn complimentary water should be a minimum standard. I asked at reception if they can sort it out while we're out for dinner (assuming it's an honest omission on their side). The receptionist told me that our rooms MAY not qualify for anything complimentary- although we all had the same room types?! After checking it she admitted we were supposed to have complimentary water. No apology. Another receptionist jumped in to say they'll sort it out while we're having dinner. For the value of a bottle of water, which they admit should have been complimentary, they shouldn't argue about it or make me feel unreasonable?! Visiting just a week later, again no water in my room. I asked reception to fix it. They wanted to charge me for water. Then told me I need to have a personal VIP status to have complimentary water. Last week it was the room but this week a personal profile issue?? At the end of it all, I was made to feel like an idiot with high demands instead of being treated like a guest. The restaurant food and service is terrible. The breakfast is not as good as other hotels in the area. Furniture is aged. The bedding quality was the only good thing about my stay here. I will never return if I have any other choice. The staff need a lesson in hospitality and how to identify guest needs, offer service with a smile, go the extra mile and make guests feel comfortable - especially given the price tag.

The service at the Lord Charles was exceptional. The room was spotless and the bedding was crisp and clean. Bathroom was spotless as well. No problem with hotwater. The view from my bedroom was beautiful. Shops across the road which is convenient. My time at the Lord Charles with all the service and food provided was great. There was nothing that could be improved. my stay was fantastic
This was my 2nd time staying at the Lord Charles Hotel, both times attending a conference, and I can recommend the hotel for both its outstanding conference facilities as well as the spacious and well designed/decorated rooms. The food was excellent especially the breakfast which had a wide variety to choose from. Staff were friendly and helpful and I am looking forward to my next stay at this hotel.
