Spent two nights at the World Opera Hotel in Zurich. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a lovely and Maria our waitress was delightful. We had booked 1 single and 1 double room which were well appointed with all the one would require. The hairdryer was the best I have had in a hotel room -one that was normal size not a travel size one that fits into a drawer. Talking about drawers gets me back to the room. Must say oddest kind I have experienced for a couple and I have stayed in small rooms before but this was small! Box type bed at the window that had three sides - well that is the whole width of the room -length of the bed. Must say we had a good laugh as it was a toss of a coin to see who was going to be boxed in next to the window. The mattress was wonderful to sleep on but just one pillow was not adequate to sleep on. Crisp fresh Linen made up for the room size. Suitcases could be stored under the box bed but as the room doesn't have any other storage we just keep them out and tripped over them. Room door open into hand basin on right hand side and toilet which lead onto shower on the other. In comparison the single room was lovely with small entrance with a cupboard for storage and then entering into a small but nicely appointed room with a whole window that could open. This then lead into a bathroom with a door. The location was the draw card as it is just one block away from the lake promenade in a clean nice area of the city. Close to all the old town sites. Must say the two great things that the hotel provided was on demand tea/coffee station and amazing wifi. All said and done would still recommend the hotel as it was small but well placed.
This central hotel is just behind the Opera House. The copious breakfast is outstanding in variety of choice, quality and service. Our room (555) had wide windows and a balcony from which we could see some of the lake. The service of all the staff we met was first class and friendly.
Everything was perfect. The hotel is right into the best neighbourhood, few meters from the lake and a short walk to the center, with of restaurants and bars around. The staff was very helpful and the facilities are top.
My husband and I spent one night at hotel Opera Zurich and two days sightseeing in Zurich before taking a train to Basel to visit our daughter. The hotel is across the street from the opera house and one block from a large plaza that abuts Lake Zurich. It is very close to the departure point for the lake cruises and river taxis. There were many good restaurants within a block or two of the hotel and it is just a short walk to the Old City. Our room, although not large, was attractive and clean and looked out on the courtyard so was very quiet at night. The staff was especially helpful - storing our luggage both before check in and after check out, and allowing us to check in early - even phoning me when our room was ready. The breakfast was also very good. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
Cleanliness and staff was okay, but our room was next to the rooms of a very noisy and large family, despite of our request for a quite room. Location was good enough, the old town locates only a few minutes walk away.
We stayed at the Zurich Opera Hotel for 9 nights as part of our 5-Country, 42-night European vacation. We had a wonderful stay; learning a great deal about Zurich and Siwtzerland - this was our first visit to the country. The Zurich Opera Hotel is located on a relatively quiet street just behind the Opera House. It's associated with the "Ambassador Opera Hotel" which is just across the street. Things to know about this arrangement are: 1) the full service restaurant is in the Ambassador (there is no full restaurant in the Zurich Opera Hotel (this to us is no bid deal ... the Zurich Opera does have a breakfast room with choice of buffet or a la carte selection for the morning meal). 2) The "terrace" (which you may see pictured) is atop the Ambassador as well. The terrace is not for those with vertigo (we stopped in only once since my wife was a little frightened. That said the view is really nice and the terrace is comfortable. Be aware we were told the only food available on the terrace is olives (but there is plenty to drink!!!!) Our room was comfortable and housekeeping did a generally fine job (clean, evening turn down service, and unobtrusive. Our only issue was regarding the pillows which are EXTREMELY soft ***OR*** EXTREMELY FIRM. We used both kind to "average out" the feel. The staff throughout the hotel and ESPECIALLY at reception were extremely helpful and actually a joy. We were always greeted with warm smiles and our questions were answered "above and beyond" - often offering advice beyond what we thought we needed to know. On arrival we received vouchers for a welcome glass of champagne. Unfortunately we never used them (we felt that the restaurant was too formal (and we couldn't dress accordingly based on what we packed) and the terrace was too "high and open" for my wife. On reflection MAYBE we could have traded those in for a couple of glasses of wine in the lounge which is run on the honor system (a nice touch!!!) For travelers be aware that the "Stadelhofen" station is just around the corner from the hotel. This makes the Zurich Opera a great location if you're planning excursions (we went to Bern (the staff recommended this and I couldn't agree more ... a lovely city), Luzern, Schaffhausen, and Konstanz (DE). We also visited the AWESOME Zurich Zoo (another staff recommendation (thanks)) using a tram service. There is a more-or-less major tram station just across the square in front of the Opera house. The walk between train station and Hotel OR tram station and Hotel s maybe 3 minutes. If you're in a hurry and need a snack for a train excursion I'd recommend the Bretzel Konig kiosk just outside of the station near platform 1. They have a variety of wonderful pretzels!!! We like to walk and there is a lovely park / promenade that starts just a block west of the hotel and extend southward along Lake Zurich. We found this pleasant in the evening and usually found ourselves at the small biergarten at "Zurichhorn". Zurich's Old Town is just a short walk to the north of the hotel. Along that route you'll pass (very close to the hotel) the Sterner Grille that we enjoyed very much. Be aware that the Sterner has both a self-service area (downstairs) and a service dining room (upstairs). We didn't know about the upstairs the first time we tried to eat there (it was another staff recommendation) and since the line for self service was literally 50 or more persons long we passed it by. Later we realized that there was an upstairs and enjoyed several lunches with great service and food. We also enjoyed the "China Moon" (Thai/Cambodian/Chinese) restaurant a couple of blocks from the hotel for dinner a few times. In short the Zurich Opera Hotel is a quiet, comfortable, friendly place to stay that is close to Zurich's Old Town, a very nice promenade along Zurich Lake, Stadthofen Station (for excursions), and some nice restaurants. We would definitely stay here again. For those considering Zurich ... It's an interesting town but frankly it served us batter as a "hub" where we could take day trips to other cities and towns. It seemed that many places in Switzerland were an hour away by train. Farthest points (such as Geneva) were only around 2 hours out.
Centrally located, close to the railstation (max. 4-5 minutes walk) and the city center. My room was faced to the backyard, not a very nice view, but quiet during nights. Friendly and accommodating staff. Tasty breakfast with a large variation of fresh fruits. Tip: Train to and from the airport is recommended. It is more time-efficient with the Train rather than a taxi - AND the train costs a tenth of the price.
If you booked Hotel Opera be aware that you may sleep in the street or if you are lucky in an other hotel. This is what happened to us one week ago.7 rooms,14 people Three days before our departure i received an e-Mail from the Hotel that they are sorry to be over booked and they have to move us to an other Hotel. I had my personal reasons why i choose carefully this Hotel.Nothing helped and we were moved to Hotel Central. There they tried to be very nice to us but i forgot to mansion that they are renovating and the noise is terrible. In the moment we complained they offered us free breakfast. Did i already mentioned what Hotel Opera offered us for canceling our booking that was made in March!.NOTHING!They even didn't try to apologize. Now you can decide by your self if you like to take the chance and order this Hotel for your next stay in Zurich.
Free drinks at the lobby is great offer and staff is very helpful in answering questions. Only if the sound proof from the street could be improve do would be excellent as there are sometimes ambulance and bird disturbance heard at night and in the morning
We booked a room with a queen bed. The hotel was just remodeled so we thought it would be lovely. The room was tiny and the bed was not a queen. It had a high headboard along the length of the bed and the same height side boards along the two short ends. It was almost like a crib. In order to get out of bed, one person would have to climb over the other. It was most inconvenient and somewhat claustrophobic for the inside person. There was a small exposed rack to hang clothes but nowhere to unpack anything. No chest of drawers or closet. This hotel was quite a disappointment.
