Stopped here overnight on a business trip, and was pleased with the choice. Room was fine, AC worked, elevator and fitness center were fine. Restaurant was very good, wait staff was very friendly and the food was great. Enjoyed dinner and a comfortable, clean bed. On site underground parking is easy and convenient. Roughly 20 mins from the lake and central Zurich by car. Shower and bathroom worked quite well. Marriott Rewards recognition worked well.
I have been to Marriott hotel in Rome and it was perfect but this Marriott just frustrated me not because of the hotel but bad manner of the staff. one of the staff was not friendly at all and she seemed to be angry all the time. The rooms and the location was acceptable.
I checked in the day before my arrival using the Marriott app. Generally I've experienced that the mobile check-in works great. However, when I arrived at the time I stated on the mobile check-in the room wasn't ready. I have hotel elite status so they normally go above and beyond. I had to wait 2 hrs before I could check in. Ok, no big deal stuff happens I get it. The next problem is after I get to me room the air seems not to be working. I turn it to 18 but it never goes below 23.5 so I call downstairs after 4 hrs of being hot to report the problem. They send the front desk person up and she can't "fix" the problem either. She tried to tell me that although it's set at 18 the lowest it should go is 23. Per her, that's "normal". My question for her was so why is it a setting for 18 if that's normal? I was then told that the engineering dept had "left for the day" but it was 4pm how could that be? So I'm spending my first night extremely hot and hope they can fit it tomorrow.
As always when we travel we try to chose hotels from chains that we know and we trust. And Marriot has never let us down. It was not the very best location, but the hotel is quite comfortable, the rooms were big, the bed was perfect, the service was good. We were happy :-)
First of all, Laura at the front desk was the best part of our stay there. With calm and cheerful professionalism, she handled several situations that could have become disasters for the hotel. Not only had our reservations been mishandled, but apparently so had the reservations of two others checking in at the same time. Laura handled ours and another family's and found rooms for us. She also rescued us when the ice machine kept spewing out ice after we had used it and found non-feather pillows for us later in the evening. Overall, the stay wasn't bad, just not as good as at other Marriott properties. Although a short distance from the train station, the Courtyard is not on the side of the station with the restaurants. There seemed to be only the Coop across the street and the hotel's restaurant on that side of the station. It's not a long walk to the other side, just inconvenient to go through the station to find food options. As mentioned, our reservations (made by phone with Marriott International as Marriott rewards members) were incorrect when we arrived, showing only one in the room when there were three of us. The room was typically smaller than American rooms, which is common in Europe, and unlike other American chains in Europe did not provide face cloths. We were prepared for that at the small, independent hotels, so we had our face cloths, but were surprised that there were none at an American-owned hotel. Also surprising was that several of the towels were frayed though clean, and that we had to call and ask for a third towel our second night there. There was only one ice machine (which was malfunctioning and continued to shoot out ice after turning it off) for the entire six-floor hotel. Also, the air conditioning which was needed during the unusually hot weather at the time could not be turned down below 22.2C and ran constantly. I appreciate the attempt to save energy, but it seems running non-stop rather than as needed, uses more energy than it saves. Other than the things mentioned above, the room was nice and clean enough and quiet for being on a busy street corner. There was a hot pot for water to make tea or instant coffee and the selection of TV channels was fine. Breakfast is not provided in the rate, but there are options in the train station and on the other side of the station and at the Coop if one doesn't want to pay the prices at the hotel. The train station is only one stop away from the airport and two stops from the center of Zurich.
We were fortunate to have our first four nights at a downtown hotel in Zurich paid for. When it came time to foot the bill ourselves, we decided to switch to a cheaper hotel outside the downtown area. At first my husband was disappointed that he would have to depend on transit to get into town. With a five minute walk to the Oerlikon train station and a four minute ride into Zürich Hauptbanhof that issue soon disappeared. The hotel wasn’t a disappointment either. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and modern. We had plenty of space to store the suitcases and our bags of chocolate (thanks to our visit to the Lindt factory store). The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows. The bathroom had a good shower and lots of counter space for the toiletries. Our only complaint was the temperature of the room. We found it too warm to sleep at night. We were told that by law the air conditioning has to be turned off in the winter. Luckily we faced the inner courtyard so we were able to open the window at night to make the room more comfortable. It wasn’t just the Courtyard Zurich North that had this problem. We found all the shops to be overheated too. We didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel restaurant. We aren’t big breakfast eaters so the price was a bit steep for us. The CO-OP store across the street has a little café which was perfect for a quick breakfast of coffee and a yoghurt. The CO-OP is also a good spot to pick up any last minute chocolates to go in the suitcase. Their prices are cheaper than the tourist shops in town. If we visit Zurich again we would stay in this hotel. It is convenient for the airport and the city. The public transportation is excellent and a lot cheaper than taking a taxi. While it may not have the ambiance of a downtown location, a $250 price savings was worth it. More money for chocolate!
We simply could not have asked for a better hotel for our short visit to Switzerland. Location - The hotel is a couple of blocks from the Oerlikon station, which is served by both S-Bahn and regional trains. It is one stop (5 min) from the airport and one or two stops (8 min) from the train station. There is a Coop supermarket across the street, and there are a few smaller restaurant options within easy walking distance. The VERY frequent train service made transportation to/from Zurich and other locations within Switzerland a complete non-issue. Service - We encountered the friendliest check-in agent, who profusely apologized because he couldn't offer us a room when we checked in at 9:30am. He told us to come back in two hours and sure enough, the room was ready. Room - The room is simple and modern, with a comfortable bed and phenomenal shower. The TV had plenty of English options as well. Restaurant - There was a busy restaurant which seemed very busy at breakfast and equally active in the evenings. Again, we found other places to eat in the neighborhood as well. We were just so grateful to find such a reasonably (for ZRH) priced hotel in such a convenient location. Five stars!
I have to share my unpleasant experience with the Courtyard in Zurich North (Oerlikon). I stayed for two nights and the price for one night was 322 CHF plus city tax but without breakfast. Fair enough Zürich is pretty expensive. However, when it comes to value for money the balance for that hotel is poor: no room service, not even a sandwich. Very unfriendly not service oriented personal, small rooms. Overall I was not impressed. Only advantage might be the location but then rather go for another hotel at Oerlikon station which is better and cheaper!
This is Your typical newer courtyard. One of the best courtyards I have stayed in. Restaurant in the hotel had good food and was open late which was good for us as the first night we arrived tired and not familiar with local eateries. Train station is 3 min walk away and provides a 7 min connection Zurich central station. Also went for a great jog to the west of the hotel where there is a great forest hill with many well maintained trails to get you out of the urban environment. Also had great service from the staff. Will stay again when I am in Zurich.
We stayed here for 2 nights in May. The hotel is at a convenient location - 5 minute walk from the train station and 7 minutes walk from the tram stop. There is a coop store (supermarket) at 2 minutes walk, and a few restaurant options around as well. The room was comfortable, and the bed big enough to fit my wife, 5 year old son and me. The staff was courteous and helped us with an early check-in, which was a big help because we had landed in Zurich early in the morning and got to the hotel at 9.30 AM.
