Nice stay at the Mercure Caen but this is not a 4 star hotel. The reception, bar and dining areas are great but the rooms are lacking finesse. First, where’s the safe? No safes in the rooms! The walls look like they have artex on them. Paper cups instead of crockery (even an ibis I stay in offers crockery!). I borrowed two mugs from breakfast for my stay to find housekeeping have taken these! I find Accor squeeze the last penny out of you from parking charges to breakfast. I’d stay here again but only due to the lack of quality hotels. I’ve stayed in sofitel, Novotel, Mercure and Ibis hotels and the add on extras always end up pushing your bill up!
More like a business hotel, the premises won't offer you any memorable holiday vibes. Good location and the convenience of parking justified my choice. The staff was polite and the room was clean enough not to regret my decision.
Stayed here one night for a business trip to the region. Excellent hotel, very comfortable facilities, wi-fi was good and it was great to have a "desk" (of sorts) to do some work. Didn't stop for breakfast as in a hurry to get to my destination the following day. Great business hotel, a number of decent restaurants in the vicinity, and it's only a short walk to the central area. Staff very friendly. Have stayed here before and would stay here again. Great shower.
The hotel is in a convenient position, easy to find and a short drive from the cross channel ferry port at Ouistreham. Charming welcome from reception and easy access underground parking. Although not large our room was a reasonable size, with very comfortable beds. We liked the large walk in shower in the bathroom. The hotel does not have its own restaurant but there are a variety of places to eat within a 5 minute walk. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent. Overall I think it is time for refurbishing the rooms, as the decoration is looking tired but this did not really detract from our stay.
Didn’t get into Caen to late in the evening so was happy to get a hotel this hotel was clean and tidy but very big standard there was no bells and whistles with this hotel so if you just want somewhere to stay for the night it’s ok but you wouldn’t want many nights in here .
If your expectation is for a nice room with a good ambiance, avoid this hotel. Room 324 had stained and dirty carpets, partially blocked shower drain, chipped and broken furniture, "police cell" room decor, room smelled of smoke (I requested non-smoking). The bill was supposed to be sent by email, but I had to chase the staff to provide it. The plus point is that the hotel is very central.
Great visit to Caen. We were there for 2 days and had 2 rooms. The suite was great, shower and sinks on one side and sink and toilet on the other. Two TVs! A curtain for price btw the two beds! Room was clean, bathroom modern and clean. We actually had s shower and bath tub! Our rates included breakfast, breakfast room was bright with lots of choices; cold cuts, pastries, fruits and coffee/ chocolate! Staff could be a little warmer but it was a great pleasant enviroment. Hotel location was central, 10 min walk to train station!
I have just been in conversation with Sabine the Hotel receptionist, and given my limited French I could not have wished for a happier, polite and authoritive young lady, it was a pleasure to speak with her and she was most helpfull and answered all my questions with a high degree of knowledge, on this basis alone I look forward to my stay at the Hotel. We only booked 1 hour ahead for this hotel so hadn’t done any homework on it beforehand. We were therefore extremely pleased when we booked in to see such a modern, clean and spacious hotel. We were given an upgrade to a lovely room, 266, and because we are over 55 breakfast was complimentary, first time we have experienced this. The hotel looks as if it might have been recently refurbished because everything looked fresh. There is a comfortable bar area and an area with sofa seating just past reception were you can sit and relax. All reception staff are very helpful and pleasant. One of them recommended an excellent restaurant too. Outside and across the road from the hotel is a marina and the streets opposite look like shopping areas but we didn’t have the time to explore that part of Caen. Often the underground car parks are difficult to negotiate when driving a large car but not so here, it is very well spaced and payment is 10 euros per day, this seems to compare favourably with other places. We enjoyed our stay even though it was only a short one.
We stayed at this hotel with a tour group, but even though we did not select the hotel I would do so given the chance to go back. The property is located right on the canal harbor and right in the middle of town and the main attractions. The lobby, bar and breakfast restaurant are all very modern.the rooms are specious, modern, and the beds quite comfortable. However, the bathroom could have been cleaner. The rooms were quite. The breakfast buffet was very nice and the fresh croissants and fruit were delicious. Not sure what the price per night was but I’d say it was worth 100€ per night. There are a variety of restaurants, shops, and attractions within walking distance.
