Staybridge Suites Calgary Airport3.0 out of 5.0

The hotel staff are great, and it’s good value for money as breakfast is included and there’s a good pool with a water slide and hot tub. The rooms are fairly quiet and the beds are comfortable. The building and rooms are clean but it’s a little run down and it feels like some corners are being cut (styrofoam plates at breakfast, couches in the lounge area worn out and shabby, etc). Overall it doesn’t stand up to the quality and value of other Staybridge hotels - I always choose a staybridge property when I can but I wouldn’t rush back to this one.
We decided to stay here for the location and for the amenities. We were quite disappointed this time. The light supper they provide is nice, but some crazy lady interrogated me! She was here the last time we stayed, and she stood around me the entire time I was getting food. The staff seem to know her, I think they feed her every night? Went down for breakfast and the drink machines were all off, a member of staff rudely yelled across the room "it is OFF someone went home with the keys last night" so bizarre. We went down to the pool one night and the hot tub was ice cold, a member of staff said he had just cleaned it and it would be warm soon.. we went back next day, still ice cold. Please don't advertise something you don't have. We let the staff know the hot tub wasn't working, and their answer was to leave a sign that says "out of order" and have told us it won't be looked at until Monday. Last time we stayed our room was never "lightly cleaned" as advertised. I think they came by once to collect garbage. Disappointing.
Launching some business soon in Calgary and the Staybridge was a great base of operation. Great Italian food behind it and a coffee shop next door. A major shopping mall is just down the road. Near the airport, but not too close that the planes are heard. Hotel has large pool and waterslide for the kids. GREAT STAFF! Free airport shuttle.
We stayed here prior to flying out of Calgary and upon returning. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially Hylton at the front desk. He ensured that our family was picked up by shuttle driver and went out of his way to assist us. In addition to the friendly staff, the rooms are clean, and we like the waterslide and pool area.
After much research, we decided on this hotel because we needed a suite. The also said they were pet friendly, which we needed for our 30-lb Wheaten-Poodle. All they said about charges for pets was $75/week or $200/mo. I think you can see where this is going. We arrive at the desk and say: "So, how much is the the pet charge per night?" Answer: "Oh, it's still $75." This would have been more than for each of us, so we left.
I've stayed here twice in the last month. Once with my husband for a weekend getaway and again with the kids for a concert in town. Both rooms were great. Loved having the fridge and ice maker. Well planned spaces. Great for a family. With the kids we were there on a Wednesday so supper was available. What a nice perk! Breakfast was very good. Great selection! We will stay again for sure.
Thank you Staybridge for giving us a wonderful stay once again. After staying there through the fall and winter last year as my husband was dealing with WCB, it was nice to return on our own as we were passing through recently and be so welcomed by the staff. It felt like a homecoming. Very clean, quiet room. Nice breakfast. Well wishes on departure. We will be back.
Our first time here, as we often stay by the airport the night before we fly out of Calgary. Very disappointing. Good things - bed was comfortable, room was a good size and the staff we very friendly and helpful. Not so good - lack of hot water! Staff worked hard to fix it but it took up a good portion of our evening. The breakfast was ok - seemed they had only one poor overworked lady trying to manage it early. It was very busy, and the tables were dirty, coffee empty. When the coffee was filled up, the milk was empty. Staff did give us some extra loyalty points for the water issue, which we truly appreciate. They we all very responsive and lovely. Not likely we will go back though.
Stayed one night (Sept 18) had no hot water for several hours. Maintenance guy in and out of our room several times....Staff offered us another room after my wife had gone to bed......room just ok....somewhat dated.....breakfast was ok....... Will find another hotel next visit to Calgary......
