Room was situated in next door building. Looked OK on 1st entry, but rear of property (where we had to park the car) was not very nice. Room was clean and partly refurbished, but mattress on double bed (though we had requested a twin) was too small for the metal bed frame which caused me to bump my legs getting in and out. Breakfast was plentiful and dinner in the restaurant was excellent.
There is no sound proofing in this whole hotel you can here everything in the corridor. All night people talking outside the rooms, doors slamming It’s very annoying. There isn’t any air con and if your on the ground floor you have no window only a door to the outside that opens. The room is so small there is no room to move. Costs way to much money for what it actually is, don’t bother !!
We stayed for 3 nights The staff were very polite, attentive and friendly all the time. Room and restaurant were spotlessly clean Food is excellent and extremely good value for money Ideal location for the beach. Restaurant bathroom was clean Our room was very clean and functional, the bed was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was a good size and clean with clean towels daily, now the decor of the room is not to my taste and I feel it could be decorated in a light colour , we didn't spend a lot of time in our room apart from sleeping in. At night it is noisy as people being people can be very inconsiderate and slam doors and shout along the corridor. The drinks at the bar are a bit expensive but didn't break the bank I would recommend this hotel to friends and family we enjoyed our few nights here and was a place to sleep. A sign would be helpful reminding guests to be considerate to other guests and be quiet .
This hotel is great for access to the beach. The continental breakfast is nice, and the restaurant serves food for lunch and dinner too at a reasonable price. The rooms are very clean, although they are quite small, especially if they squeeze in a bed for a third person. It is quite expensive at peak times, which doesn't match up with the internal finish of the room - it could do with a refurbishment, especially in the bathroom. The bathroom could also do with some extraction, which would be easy to fit on the external wall and would help reduce the occurrence of mould on the grouting around the bath. Sockets near the mirror in the bedroom would have been useful, as I couldn't use the mirror in the bathroom as it was steamed up or the bathroom was being used by my husband. It is easy to hear other doors slamming and people talking in the corridor, which is a bit annoying when trying to get to sleep.
The hotel just about suits a one night visit for the return ferry due to its location to the ferry terminal other than that dont bother. A very outdated hotel in desperate need of refurbishment. The bar service was v poor, we wanted a drink at an empty table and was told it was reserved, nobody turned up in more than 2 hours. When the drinks finally arrived it was 7 euro 20 cents for a very small warmish beer, pants. Didn't enjoy the stay at all. One really annoying thing was v poorly positioned light switches on the outdated bed head which switched on during the night. On a positive the breakfast was appreciated, the young girl arranging the buffet was nice and enthusiastic as there were fresh croissants.
For what you pay, there are so many nicer places in Calais to stay. The rooms are tacky and gaudily decorated, albeit clean. Staff were not very friendly in the least. Food in the restaurant was so bad, to the point I could not eat it. Calais beach leaves nothing to be desired, avoid at all costs
We have been visiting La Plage regularly for over 10 years, basically because they allow dogs there. After a refurb a few years back, it has lost its appeal. This time our room was shabby, the mattress apparent and quite frankly, disgusting. The plinth was lifted with nails protruding in a very narrow space to access bathroom. And it is now apparent that the mould problem in bathrooms was just painted over and now back with a vengeance. The long-term staff who always made us feel welcome have all left. Very convenient location and parking- opposite the beach - but this was our last visit, sorry.
We arrived at hotel de la plage on Saturday evening 29/12/18 staying for 2 nights,a member of staff dealt with our booking and we had to pay by credit card also including breakfast only then to be told the hotel was fully booked! Even though we had booked in February 2018! And would be staying in room 216 in the hotel du golf which is the building next door?! Which we had NOT booked!on inspection of room it was self catering and did not meet our expectations! We did not want to sleep next to a sink and microwave.we returned to hotel de la plage who were unable to offer a room we had originally booked so we had a refund and returned to the uk very disappointed.
A cheap and cheerful hotel located just across the road from the wonderful sandy Calais beach. Dogs are welcome, rooms are clean and comfortable if small but the big plus is the ground floor rooms have a door to the car parking so you can just pop your dog in and out of the car, very very convenient, good for luggage too. Another huge benefit is the excellent good value restaurant which specialises in fish dishes. My wife and I had the gratin of scallops to start, really lovely and the sea bass as a main course, which was beautifully cooked. Plenty of good stuff for kids, lighter dishes and so on. Simple but reasonably priced wine list, good Sancerre, Chablis and Bourgogne Aligote. Fun views of the Ferries coming and going, nice when lit up at night. Just a great spot to stay the night before the trip back home though could perhaps do with some updating. Friendly staff, good value and no grief about early starts or in fact anything. It's never going to set the world on fire but it does what we need it for very well.
We stayed at this hotel on the way back to the UK, I thought that we had booked the Hotel De La Plage but after checking in we were directed to the next building which was the Hotel Residence Du Golf. We had two rooms which were identical in design and condition i.e. VERY basic, in urgent need of a deep clean and redecoration, unless the dirty marks over the kitchen sink was an attempt at wall art. The cystern did not flush and had to be repaired. The bed had a what seemed to be a double mattress on a king sized Base, which was helpful to wake you in the middle of the night up on the way toilet. Otherwise you might injure yourself trying to get into a very small cubicle on which the door was only able to open half way until it hit the toilet bowl and bounced back into your face. All in all not an enjoyable experience.
