Central Basilica Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

This hotel is right by St Stephens Basilica so it is very easy to navigate to lots of the main attractions around Budapest. It is about a 5minute walk to the Danube. Our room was large and quite comfortable but the shower in the bathroom was very small. The air conditioning was not good and really didn't cool the room down at all, the hot water in the shower was also hit and miss. Breakfast was included in the price and was the usual bread, cold meats, fruit yoghurts etc with some warm included (scrambled egg/sausages). Hot drinks were available but not apparently English Breakfast?! We asked the waitresses if they had any but none of them seemed to understand what we were talking about. One went and fetched what they had and so we ended up with Earl Grey and Green (it wasn't too much of a problem as there was a Starbucks just over the road). The waitresses in the dining room did not come across very friendly but the staff on reception were very helpful. This hotel was recommended to us for its location and for that I couldn't fault it and to be fair if we ever visit Budapest again we would probably stay again. Wifi is free and good
I always try to find a nice combination of affordable price, good reviews and great location. I was not disappointed with the Hotel Central Basilica. Literally steps away from it's namesake, you are right int he hear of the city center of Budapest, with numerous attractions within walking distance, as well as transportation options. There are also an abundance of eating and drinking options within blocks, from high end dining to very cheap and filling. With the excellent location out of the way, the staff here was welcoming and helpful, informing me about some vents going on in the area and answered any other questions I had. The rooms were bigger than some typical European rooms which was nice, everything was clean and comfortable. The shower was a bit cramped but that's a minor complaint as I'm not a big person. A nice surprise for a European hotel was that there was free breakfast here. While I've had better breakfast at hotels, there was plenty here to fill me up every morning before leaving, with all different types of bread offered, cold meats and cheeses, and a few hot selections such as scrambled eggs and boiled sausages. WiFi was also free here. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to people looking for everything I mentioned above, I was very pleasantly surprised.
I previously reviewed this hotel after staying there a while ago. I recently stayed there again and since my last stay a lot has changed at the hotel. It has had a major renovation and modernisation. The rooms are now very modern and the bathrooms spacious with up-to-date fittings. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a mini fridge / minibar. The air-conditioning was new and efficient, important in Budapest during the summer months! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast room downstairs had also undergone a major renovation and there was a very wide choice of items to eat that would cater for most people tastes including both hot and cold choices. A good place to start the day with a good breakfast.
Great quality rooms with all the amenities including hot water kettle (missing in many European hotels) for my morning tea. Located very close to the Basilica and around great restaurants and chain bridge, you are right in the middle of the bustling area. The gelato place next to the hotel deserves a special mention and recommendation. Breakfast is basic and a disappointment. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would prefer this hotel to the likes of fancy hotels like intercontinental or sofitel which are close
The location of this hotel is very good. The hotel is cozy and clean, it depends where you live, but my room was very spacious. The breakfast is nothing special, but enough of everything. The relationship between price and quality is very good. The street is very nice with good restaurants nearby with a famous Gelateria Rosa.
just back from budapest we had a brilliant time and fitted alot in in 5 days will defo be going back stay at central basilica hotel its in a very good position plenty going on around it yet lovley and quiet in the room which ad very good air conditioning too the bed was very comfy the shower was a nice powerfull one and all very clean an staff very friendly and helpfull i think 10am check out is a little early but we managed we had breakfast in hotel it was alright all in all a very good hotel and right next to the basilica lovely photo op
We enjoyed our two nights in Budapest and this hotel is in a great location and had very nice, clean and comfortable rooms. The staff were also very helpful. Breakfast buffet included was good. I loved the area this hotel was in (St. Stephen's Basilica is yards away). It was lively and fun. It was a 10 minute walk from the Danube and 15 minutes tops to the Parliament building. Nice restaurants all around. However I would recommend NOT getting a room in the front of the hotel. Although the view of the Basilica is nice, the noise at night is a little much. It's a real party town! We found the pull down noise deadening shades the second night, and they worked well but made the room a little stuffy because the AC wasn't the best. However I would definitely recommend the hotel. Transportation: We took a shuttle bus from the airport and it was a 30-40 minute scary ride. Our driver was a little crazy. I am still amazed we didn't hit anyone. We came close several times. Could be that's normal for driving in Budapest. There is a subway stop very close to the hotel and Basilica so that is very convenient.
I left my heart in Budapest! Just returned from the most wonderful 3 days here for our wedding anniversary. The hotel was in a superb location, couldn't fault it. 20-30 minutes in a taxi from the airport, 30 minutes walk to train station and 15 minute walk from the all the main tourist attractions, perfectly placed. The area around the hotel is also beautiful, great restaurants and bars and the Basilica is just stunning, especially at night. The hotel itself is very clean and modern. Our room was lovely and of a good size. We were made to feel very welcome with mini bottles of fizz, roses and towels made into hearts for our anniversary. Breakfast was basic but all you needed to set you up for a great day exploring the city. The only niggle we had was that the aircon in our room wasn't very good and it was very hot whilst we were there meant we didn't sleep very well. I cant believe what we got for our money given the price of this hotel is so reasonable. When we return to Budapest we will definitively stay here again.
Friendly staff and room was clean. Walking distance to all attractions . Right beside St Stephen Bacillica. Good location for the price. Only problem is that the heating and air conditioning is centrally controlled. Not enough air flow unless the windows are open. On the first floor that was not the easiest thing to do. The windows are larger than the doors. A
My colleague and me were welcomed very friendly. The rooms are large enough, good beds, good facilities. Breakfast was enough, although I was a bit surprised to enter an empty breakfast room at 9am. Our flight was leaving in the afternoon, but we could do some remote work in the lobby, using the hotel wifi. We enjoyed our stay, but will check if there is a hotel bar for a next visit to Budapest in advance :-)
