Romantik Hotel de Orangerie4.0 out of 5.0

The Hotel de Orangerie is located on a quiet lane, just steps away from the main street, right where you want to be in the charming town of Bruges. Modern updates focused on comfort and luxury cloak most evidence of the 15th century convent that originally occupied the building. Workmen doing exterior repairs to the building across the lane (September 2017) let you know it's time to wake up. Our "standard suite" was not a suite at all, it was just a bedroom and bath. The bedroom was quite small, so small in fact that it is not possible to open your luggage on the floor. Surprised and disappointed by the small size, we toured a more expensive room but declined because it too was small. Service by all staff members is incredible and constantly reminds you why this is considered a luxury hotel. It's all about the service. Public areas in the hotel include the glass-ceiling lobby, as well as the stately and absolutely luxurious library and dining room. The breakfast buffet is rather small, as the hotel only has 20 rooms, but it was truly a daily delight. Between the quality of the food, the service, and the surroundings, this is a top-notch breakfast. The terrace along the canal briefly attracted us only out of curiosity, but we did not find it irresistible enough to linger. The bottom line is that this is a good hotel (4/5) in a great location (5/5), with undersized rooms (3/5). Highlights include the great staff (5/5) and the scrumptious breakfast (5/5) in luxurious surroundings (5/5).
While we visiting Belgium with few friends we tried to discover new kind of hotel concept and we found l’orangerie ... cosy and luxury with a high class service ... reasonable prices for the huge quality ... we booked one of the heritage rooms that included our private hammam that was awesome specially after a long day of walking around the city in November.... great service.
This boutique hotel in Bruges deserves its place among the best small luxury hotels in the world! From the friendly and natural staff to the individually designed and decorated rooms, everything in this hotel fulfills the high standards of the SmallLuxuryHotels in the World group! Very central in a 15th century building, this hotel makes you feel like being at home. The smiling staff, the details in every corner of the hotel like the fresh apples and detox water, the charming dining room with a beautiful fireplace and especially the very comfortable bed want you to stay at this place without leaving to visit the city. In the morning, they serve breakfast with a view to the canal while you can sit back and relax to wonderful classic music. The breakfast buffet shows that an excellent hotel doesn’t need quantity but quality! Fresh products, a good variety and well arranged! Definitely THE place to stay in Bruges!
The hotel is absolutely fantastic. The location is perfect for exploring Brugge but was absolutely quiet. Right on a canal with a lovely tearoom. Breakfast was stunningly delicious with a fire going and a beautiful view of the canal. Nice comfortable rooms with excellent toiletries.
The hotel was lovely. It is a converted monastery (I believe, may have been a convent) and is very interesting. The courtyard looks onto the canal and was very pleasant. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Can't ask for more.
Lovely hotel..would have given a higher score if it not for a couple of things... room was much smaller than we had expected. Paying anywhere close to the rack rate for the room would have had me score the hotel more like a 4 however we payed a fair price. Location is great, bar room area is as nice a room I have seen in any hotel anywhere. We were in 103 I think.. next to the front door, couldn't open the blinds over the window as the window faced the hotel entrance hall. The biggie was the bathroom had a swinging glass door on it with gaps above and below the door... no where should a bathroom in such a small space have a door like this on. I would have forgiven such a small room if it not for the bathroom door / lack of a bathroom door
Hotel is very charming. Staff is the best: they are so gentle and friendly! The room is large, warm, the bed is super confortable, warm, with a very special decoration. The staff gave us a small bag with apples, bottle of water and little chocolate candies. This is a small gift but has a great value for the guest. It shows they care about the guests. The location is privileged, quite close to the city center and a beautifil canal.
This city centre, small, canal-side hotel is superb.Very quiet and comfortable in an excellent position for visits to all Bruges attractions. The staff can't do enough for it's customers(including the night receptionist who printed off our flight boarding cards for us at 5.30 am.) The hotel building itself is very old with every modern facility added and is beautiful and charming.
Loved the room - comfortable bed, beautiful baywindow, nice bathroom. The breakfast room is stunning beyond words! The entrance is pretty and welcoming, and it smells lovely everywhere. The service was friendly and helpful. High tea was also enjoyable. Would definitely recommend!
Regrettably, we cannot recommend this otherwise very nice hotel for business travelers or anyone who might need to rely on timely messages from the front desk. Our luggage did not arrive with us Sunday in Amsterdam and we were waiting delivery to the hotel. Tues night the baggage tracking office (the impossibly inept Avia Partners) left a message that the luggage had been shipped to Brussels, but would not be delivered to Bruges, rather returned to Amsterdam late the next morning. We could have easily driven to Brussels airport to pick them up, but the front desk never relayed the message to us that night or the next morning. The desk's excuse, "we didn't want to disturb you" was both fatuous and self serving. Their job is NOT to make decisions for guests, but relay messages. Poor training.
