The overall layout is great - especially the free-standing casitas with private pools. Also, the star gazing area, which is kept darker than the rest of the property, is a really nice touch. I stayed in a casita. It was pretty dated on the inside. A refresh of paint, carpet and furniture / appliances would be helpful. Generally the staff was good, except for those working the restaurant at brunch on a Sunday. There were hardly any customers, and there were 3-4 servers / attendants, but I waited 10mins to be greeted at the host stand, and it took a long time to get the food. Overall, it’s a cool property - maybe just a little too pricey for what I got.

Only a little ding because when we got there the AC did not work in our room and the next day, the toilet clogged. However, both incidents were fixed 100% within an hour. Could have used more comfortable chairs on our balcony. Beautiful hotel and rooms.

The only thing was the temperature of the room - It was warm and the AC system is old and was not able to cool the room. It would also be nice to get the Golf Channel on television since there are already so many cable channels. Staff was excellent and friendly!

Relaxing time spent here at casa del Zorro. The staff was super friendly and accommodating and we enjoyed spending time by the pool (which we had all to ourselves.) the facilities are great and the garden room was roomy and even had a fridge. Our only complaint was that the rooms in the garden room have gaps on the sides of the blinds which takes away from the privacy. Walking along the path outside, if you happen to look into the room you would be able to see the bed, and other parts of the room. Also the bathroom where the toilet is has glass windows which are supposed to be private, but when its super dark outside and super light inside, well they arent quite as private.

Outstanding desert experience. Great value. Very warm and welcoming staff.

The most beautiful place in the desert. The grounds are stunning the staff is incredibly nice. The pool is perfect and the room was lavish!

Everybody from the front desk, spa and restaurant were very nice to my wife and I. All were eager to assist with anything we needed. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel shuttle picked us up at our room and took us to town. When we called him to pick us up, he was there in 5 minutes. All around good time!

I came here for 3 nights (sat, sun,Mon) and it was an awesome time. I was able to bring my dog for $50. There was a pool right outside my room. The room was clean. The hotel was nice. It is a huge property, with lots of pools and places to walk and sit and write. The food was great every time. I will definitely be back!

Came to "retreat," and this place facilitated that.

Lovely room on the end, with direct access to pool. Very convenient! Jacuzzi was so nice and HOT! loved it! Room was very comfy and spacious, huge bathroom. All very nice. Would definitely stay again. Quite easy to hear neighbors. Snoring at night and then vacuuming in morning, but it wasn't obtrusive. We did have some very rowdy neighbors practicing aikido or something upstairs, but a call to front desk (twice) remedied that. Front desk wanted to make sure we were satisfied. Appreciative of that for sure. Dinner (salads) were fine. Not particularly special but server was very pleasant. Have had dinner at resort several times before and would return. Walked the one-mile track and enjoyed that! Will definitely try to use their complimentary bikes next time.

I love this place. I love the proximity to the OHV park, I love the tranquil setting, good food, and the relaxation this place provides. The fact that it is so dark at night means you can see all the stars that you normally miss in a big city. Incredible!

...for two things; 1) the in-room frig was not getting cold enough to preserve anything, and 2) there was not enough parking near the room. But there is much more to praise than to criticize. My family and I went down to Borrego Springs for an over-night stay so we could attend a "star tour" given by a local astronomer. Rates for this place are really affordable in the summer, but it does get well over 100 degrees during the day. I'm told by the staff that the room we got was about twice the price during the peak winter months. Perhaps at that price the cost/benefit math would would calculate out differently, but it would weed out some of the riffraff (but that's another story). The good news: Nice spacious room, comfortable beds, a pool just outside, double-pane windows (helps sound-proof from rowdy folks in the pool late at night), large two-sink bathroom, absolutely the best shower we've ever had at a hotel, a separate bath tub, fireplace (though the room did smell a bit of wood smoke), tile floors, free WiFi, cable flat-screen TV. There were numerous other amenities that we did not have the time to try out. Next time. Upon reflection, I do think that there may have been rooms in our building where there were multiple people each with their own cars. This may have contributed to the lack of parking. All I know is that when we returned from the 'star tour' late that night there was no parking at all near the room and we had to park some distance away.

We stayed 3 nights arriving around 7 the first evening after driving down from Oakland. Long drive, I would come from San Diego or LA area next time. The desert was beautiful despite being June and a little barren of blooms, but that's what I liked. The hotel has many walks, pools, fountains and plantings all nicely maintained and providing varied diversions walking within their 42 acres. Outside the grounds one is at the foothills of Anza Borrego State park. There are many trails and rugged hikes but also a broad experience of the same area can be done by car. Temperatures while we were there were approaching record highs so we did very modest hiking.

Quaint, quiet, beautiful grounds. Spacious and comfortable room with private patio. Excellent food...I highly recommend the French toast!

Excellent hotel in the middle of nowhere with no gas stations near-by

Unfortunately it was such a disappointment. We paid for (the 2 Bedroom casita king and 2queen ac wifi pool) that we did not enjoy at all, and the level of the room is same level of Extended Stay. Did not enjoy the pool at the evening because of the flies, and in the morning the pool was filled with different large insects that took for ever to clean. The check out is at 11, and asked for the possibility to check out at 11:30 or 12:00, but the receptionist answered that we actually need to leave at 11 or before ! because there are other guests coming in and they need to prepare the room for them. The room key was deactivated before 11 am, so we could not get in the room when we were loading the car with our luggage. It was not the trip we were looking for at all. In addition to this, the pictures shown for the casita we rented were for another casita. What we got was actually much worse, the couches were old and felt dirty, no dvd player anywhere as they mentioned. We asked to change to the casita that was shown in the picture, we were not given that, but they gave the option to pay $100 extra to get a three bedroom if we wanted to. There is no Buffet option for breakfast, that was a shock to us, we had either to pay 16$ for a simple breakfast per person or go outside to the downtown which was even worse.

La Casa del Zorro was a place I had wanted to stay for years. It closed, was purchased by someone else who couldn't make a go of it, and now is under new ownership with more realistic room prices. I loved the room on the pool edge, and it was a great short vacation for my daughter and me.
