Hotel Campanile Bordeaux Sud - Pessac3.0 out of 5.0

I spent one night here. The room itself is mainly functional and clean. The bathroom is a little less functional (light switch is not by the door but next to the flush) and there are some traces of mould on the grouting, due no doubt to the lack of ventilator fan to carry away humidity, but there was enough space to put toiletries out. I had a ground floor room giving onto the parking lot but it was not particularly noisy. There were hangers and even skirt hangers in the hanging cupboard, a welcome tray with kettle, two paper cups and a range of instant coffees and tea bags. The bed was very good. Breakfast was only so-so: very cafeteria-like both in ambiance and quality of food (Lipton tea bags - possibly the worst brand out there - and thermos flasks of filter coffee rather than an espresso machine say it all). The staff I saw Sunday were pleasant. However, I was not happy at all with the minimal information given me about getting to the hotel by public transport (not everyone arrives by car). I was told to take the tram, and which stop to get off at when I phoned but that was all - I had to look on the Bordeaux transport website to find where to change coming from the train station and which terminus line I needed to take. When I phoned to ask how to get from the tram stop to the hotel, the person I spoke to, gave me the wrong instructions leading me to walk 200m in the opposite direction before having to backtrack and wander around to find the hotel. For anyone arriving by tram: you need to take Line B to "France-Alouette", getting down at Haut-Lévêque, and then walking back along the tram line until the roundabout and following the avenue Haut-Lévêque through the industrial estate. The Campanile is on the right.
Very good price, open buffet. Big portions good choice Very friendly smiley staff. After work we were tired and didn't explain well how we wanted the invoice and the receptionist did it 3 times with a nice smile
We stopped here on our way from Northern France to Portugal. The hotel was on the edge of Bordeaux in an industrial area. We thought we might have trouble getting an evening meal on a Sunday night, but the hotel had a restaurant and the food was a pleasant surprise. The meal was very good and fantastic value for money. The room was basic, but clean and very quiet, enabling us to get a good nights sleep before a long drive the next day.
The room was not clean. I am usually not easily disgusted but it was awful. I found a poop stain on the toilet seat. If there was any other available hotel close to this and if my company was not paying, I would have left right away. Then there were hairs in the bath tub. It was clear that the bathroom was not cleaned. I have slept in worse places (e.g., even in the jungle) but most were cleaner and you don't expect this when you are in civilization and you pay 100 Euro. It is a shame because this is easily fixed. Everything else was good. The staff were very friendly and professional. Also the dinner was surprisingly good. I did not expect much at a small place. I also went walking all over the area and found nothing close by (some things about 15 minutes away) so my suggestion is just to have dinner at the hotel. Also wifi was good. So if they can fix cleaning, I would recommend. But after this experience I am never coming back. I still have flashbacks to seeing poop on the toilet seat.
great stop over place if traveling onto spain or portugal or perhaps just visiting bordeaux, the rooms are bright and very clean easy parking and only 5 minutes from motorway and priced very well ,overall a great stop over plus good wifi
A lovely little hotel, we had booked this as an overnight stop after landing and collecting a hire car, was perfect for a single night booking. Everything you need for a short stay, quite a ideal location for your needs and could navigate easily onto the roads we needed for our destination for our holiday. Service was pleasant and the rooms are very clean
Mid week this hotel is expensive €85 for the night. In the past we never minded paying a bit more for the Campanile chain of hotels, the quality was always so much more than the other motel chains, restaurants excellent, cosy and good value. But this time we were disappointed. Everything has been modernised, not a bad thing, but at the same time the quality has disappeared. The modern restaurant was cold and not at all cosy. Small tables, dead atmosphere, despite being busy. Service was perfunctory. Food a bit mean in portions, buffet a bit pinched. Perhaps this is to avoid less wastage but we had the impression that we were in a budget hotel. Same impression in the room, all a bit pinched. So whilst I would say the quality was ok but it was at the limit of being mean, not good value for the price. One advantage this motel is at 5 minutes from the motorway when travelling between Spain and Northern France.
Stayed here last week as a midway stop from Spain back to UK. Ideally situated a minute from the motorway. Our room was spotlessly clean and although small was quite adequate for our needs. I was worried about security as our estate car was full of luggage and personal items including golf clubs and other items that could be clearly seen, however we were able to park right outside the room (twin room no:5) and so slept easy. There are lots of eateries nearby including Macdonalds and KFC and also a restaurant on site. I would definitely stay here again. Security gated as well.
Unfortunately, despite inputting the hotel address as per their web site our sat nav chose to take us on a trip around Pessac ending up in completely the wrong place. Fortunately there are small signs in abundance at all the major road junctions and following those arrived at the hotel. Typical Campanile style, clean, with a large wet room style bathroom...which personally I do not like. Arriving quite late we had a very reasonably priced meal in the hotel restaurant, steak cooked exactly as ordered and my wifes mushroom omelette bursting with mushrooms. There was a large buffet salad bar with quite a variety of meats, cheese etc. Fresh and well presented. 38 euros. Breakfast was the normal buffet affair, again plenty of options, well presented and more on offer than required for the limited number of persons apparently staying overnight. You could certainly eat your fill. Reception staff spoke English and there are English menus in the restaurant. We certainly made ourselves understood to our waitress with our very limited French. We found all the hotel staff friendly and would certainly overnight here again when next driving through Bordeaux. On leaving the hotel found ourselves 5 minutes from the road south to Spain. Need a better sat nav me thinks.
Now compared to the other Campanile hotel I have to stay in this is actually fairly good. The staff have all been excellent and really friendly and helpful with checking in and giving directions and service at breakfast. I booked the hotel due to the free wifi and close proximity to the Europarc where I was working with clients. However I am now having to move to alternative accomodation as although the hotel does have wifi and it is free it is also barely usable as the speed is so poor 30k connection speed at all hours I have tried to use it. Staff say this is due to number of people using it however i have never seen it go above this speed at any time. The bedrooms are in a building opposite the main reception and restaurant. The doors to the rooms all are accessed from an outside walkway much like an american motel. Beds are firm and comfortable and security shutters on outside of the windows allow you to block out light from outside. However a number of trucks park on the road outside so it can be noisy at times. Bathrooms are not luxurious merely functional like the rest of the room really - small and functional. No English channels on TV as a minimum I would like to have one of CNN/BBC/Sky News or sufficient wifi bandwidth to access this myself on tablet or other device. The restaurant is adequately stocked for both breakfast and dinner buffets. However there really is very little other choice if you dont have your own transport. Bus line 24 stops nearby to take you into central Bordeaux but for convenient eating places other than the hotels own restaurant it is quite limited.
