We stayed here for three nights as it was booked for us by one of the universities in Barcelona. The hotel is clean, the beds comfortable and the staff helpful but it is not in a good location - it is quite far away from the city centre (in the area called Eixample which means extension). There is no pool and nowhere to sit outside. One of the trip advisor reviews said this hotel had a great roof terrace but we were told this was closed (in September!). We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening as the reviews said it was good - it wasn't. We could not eat our dinner. I would NOT go back to this hotel
My daughter and I travel quite a bit through Europe and you've got to cut boutique hotels some slack. The bed was comfortable the pillows were great and the staff was very very accommodating. Breakfast was your standard European breakfast and I have to say that dinner wasn't the best outside of the smoked salmon salad which was excellent. We would come back in a heartbeat the value was great and it was 55 minutes to anywhere that we wanted to go including the beach.
We are back from Barcelona a few days having stayed at the Zenith Borrell,I was very aprehensive about staying here having read some of the reviews but I was so pleasently surprised. From check in to check out we found nothing but professonalism. The staff are amazing, from the reception staff to the breakfast staff and the cleaning staff, nothing was too much trouble for them.We arrived very early so David on reception took our luggage for us and we headed out as our rooms were being made up,the rooms are very comfortable with a lovely large bathroom with lovely big fluffy towels plenty of wardrobe space and a safe, the Television channels are very limited where English speaking channels are concerned, just News channels but that did not bother us,the wifi is very good, the cleaning staff Are excellent, the area around the Hotel is very safe with lots of shops and restaurants and the walk to Las Ramblas is approx 25 mins at your leisure or a taxi costs 7 euro. The breakfast was lovely on our first morning ( Thursday) but it was not great after that, very hit and miss,we had lunch on one of the days and it was delicious and very good value,I would highly recommend it,I mentioned to Salvador on reception that we had an early return flight and we would miss breakfast and he organised a breakfast pack for the 4 of us consisting of a sandwich, apple, orange juice and a bottle of water,it was such a lovely gesture,we have never come across this in all of our travels so a big Thank You to Salvador, also I would like to mention Alexis on reception who was very helpful and even printed off our return airline boarding passes for us.We did the hop on hop off bus which costs 29 euro for 1 day and is great value,we found most Restaurants to be fairly priced but I would like to mention on one of the days our Husbands went for a walk to the Port/ Harbour area and stopped in the Ramblas area at a Restaurant called Capuccino, Ramblas 76,they ordered a sandwich and a large beer and were shocked at the price of the beer which was 10.85 euro each, the receipt said a cervesa magnum which consists of 2.63 pints but they are adamant that the glass held no more than 1 pint at most, that was the only bad experience restaurant wise we encountered as we found the food and drink to be very good value in all the other restaurants we visited. Finally I would like to say I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the Zenith Borrell and would happily stay here again should I ever return to Barcelona.
Recently returned from a long weekend break. We decided to use the local train from the airport to take us into Barcelona this only cost 4.10 per ticket much cheaper than a transfer/taxi, the hotel is about a 15 minute walk down a straight road so really simple and bearable even in the heat. We found the rooms to be a little scruffy with marks on the walls ect however had all the basic needs such as a hairdryer and amenities kit, they also provide a 2 in 1 shampoo/bodywash which was very handy. Fab bathroom and we found the beds to be comfy and the maids always did a great job of tidying the room. Breakfast was basic continental with a few hot items, the server was a credit to the hotel as he was a lovely gentleman. We had a very late flight so would have appreciated late check out however was told this was not possible due to being fully booked... this was a shame especially after a full day in the heat! First 2 days of our trip we walked everywhere however would not recommend this as we were in alot of pain towards the end of the trip- our own fault, but the metro was really easy to use with a range of day tickets as we later found out! This was our first visit to Barcelona and we found restaurants difficult as it seems like tapas everywhere which also appeared to just be bread with condiments on top... however fully recommend 'bodega biarritz' for a true authentic Spanish meal. Overall a basic stay, good location and would stay again.
We recently stayed at the Zenit Borrell, a family trip for a long weekend, at first the hotel appeared to be very nice, there were 9 of us in our party so had a family room (3), 2 twin rooms and a double room, out of the 4 rooms only 1 had a kettle with tea and coffee, why the other 3 didn't, I have no idea. We had a few drinks in the bar on the Friday night and the waitress was very pleasant and helpful, but on the Saturday night we went down to the bar again and it was closed, we asked at reception if the bar was open and the male receptionist kind of laughed and said NO, as if to say "don't be stupid!!!" We couldn't believe how rude he was, worse still one of our party wasn't feeling great on the Sunday so they decided to stay in their room most of the day, they did venture downstairs to the bar and restaurant to see what was available to eat or drink, only to discover that both bar and restaurant were closed all day, because it was a Sunday, I mean to say, what sort of "4 star" hotel closes its bar and restaurant all day Sunday in the middle of summer??? Apart the this every time we came back to our rooms they had been cleaned very well and were spotless, can't fault the cleaners at all. The young male receptionist who printed me a map and phoned the nearest 24hr pharmacy to check they were open early on the Sunday morning was very helpful, unlike the grumpy, rude older male receptionist we encountered on Saturday night. Finally I'd also like to express how poor the breakfast was, the "hot section" consisted of bacon that contained more fat that meat, scrambled eggs which had a powdered texture and boiled rubber looking cocktail sausages. The toaster took about 15 minutes to turn a slice of bread into something that just about resembled a slice of toast. In all breakfast was a total waste of money and I wouldn't recommend paying extra money for it. If at some stage I ever return to Barcelona, which I'm sure I will as it is a beautiful city, I will definitely be not returning to the Zenit Borrell.
We stayed for one night. Room was clean, very comfortable bed, free Wifi, good breakfast and parking space (20 euro supplement). We had a room with a balcony on a busy street. Some pretty cool bars and restaurants within walking distance. Friendly service. The price was reasonable because of the last minute booking during peak season. Underground parking is very narrow, parking spaces are tiny. There is a metro nearby if you are staying longer and don't want to use your car to drive around the city. One needs strong nerves to drive around in Barcelona!!
Stayed here for two nights before a cruise. Room was very small, we struggled to find places to put our luggage. No view from hotel room. Everything was very clean and comfortable though. I was a bit disappointed that in the hotel pictures it looks like there is an outside area where you could have a drink, we could see this courtyard from our hotel room but was unused. We asked and were told it wasn't available to use. There was a little seating area outside the front with a couple of tables but wasn't the same as a courtyard. The hotel is in a good location, within walking distance of lots of restaurants. Staff were friendly. We had breakfast there on our second morning. It was a good price but we found that some of the food ran out and was not topped up later on. If you got there early you would have had plenty to choose from but as we went down later it was a bit disappointing. Car park was handy, although spaces are small and not easy to park. We enjoyed our stay but I probably wouldn't stay again.
The hotel is clean and bright and its staff is polite and helpful. Rooms are a bit small but we've been offered an upgrade upon arrival. It's not really located in the touristic city center but the place is within reach of the latter thanks to a metro station: Hospital Clinic (Line 5) is 5 minutes away by foot.
We stayed at Zenit Borrell for 3 nights and found this Hotel very comfortable and accessible to all the sites and sounds of Barcelona, close to hop on hop off bus stops and friendly tapas bars and restaurants all around.
I am currently staying here and this place has been nothing but a disappointment. It was very expensive for a four star yet... -the shower gel is just a basic pump style thing that you'd get at a budget ibis -you get a measly five bits of tissue paper -no conditioner given -no coffee, was told what is with the kettle is what you get and nothing else (only tea) -rude receptionist -awful shower -very uncomfortable bed -very poor breakfast - can't believe I paid extra for this Only positives are that the room was always left clean and the inside of the hotel is quite modern and nice. Extremely disappointed and there's no chance I'd ever recommend this place to anyone.
