We arrived in Barbados by boat and as we didn't want to be too far from the Airport so we booked online at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised when we finally arrived at the great location! Our large spacious 2 bedroom studio had all amenities and was clean and functional. The staff were friendly and very helpful, an enjoyable stay and will defiantly visit again. Quiet seafront garden, perfect for relaxing away from the tourist crowds.
If you want peace and quiet with decent access to the beach then Ocean Spray is the perfect place. If you get the right apartment you can experience an amazing view over the Caribbean Sea and be lulled to sleep by the waves. Be warned though, reflected by the price the accomodation is basic but hopefully you won't be spending much time inside. There are adequate facilities for cooking which is important as the restuarant is only open for dinner two nights a week and shuts at 1300 every other day. There aren't many restuarants close by either so you need to do a big shop in Oistins and cook for yourself or be prepared to travel there to find a decent eatery which I believe there are plenty of. Getting to Oistins is an easy and enjoyable $1 bus ride but takes a bit of getting used to. The other caveat I would make is that there is no swimming pool and there is no direct access to a beach. To be fair it only takes 2-3 minutes walk to be able to get in the sea but there isn't that ability to cool straight off after lounging in the hot sun. This is balanced out by relatively close access to Long beach and Silver Rock beach, both beautiful and totally deserted apart from kite-surfers. Storms can wash in seaweed that impinges on bathing but otherwise a delight to behold. For me it was perfect, I cooked all my meals, read my books, went running on the beach away from the hustle and bustle of Bridgetown and the mainstream areas.
Love this place... Quick check in, helpful staff great room with cute kitchen, fabulous balcony overlooking the sea, watching the para sailors and kite surfer’s nice walk to zed’s Great team cooking breakfast, lunch and Saturday night dinner ( fish and salad, veg), healthy smoothies and other fare in outdoor seating overlooking the sea.. heaven. Really not that far to st Lawrence gap and Accra/ Rockley.. taxi or bus is easy, or rent to explore the island if your first time Mamu, the owner, is farming 53 acres of rainforest in St Joseph - take the tour!! Every now and then you book a hotel because it looks good in pictures. I usually check reviews across several sites but this time booked on a whim several months in advance and put it out of mind Life got busy and we really went from work directly to the airport and landed in Barbados a bit late and nearing dark. We got in the rented car and following the basic directions from the rental agent - more on the dismal car rental in another review - set off to the Ocean Spray - which was well marked in many power poles all along the somewhat winding way. This was true of approaching from all directions and roads - easily identified signs in a distinctive blue. A quick circuitous drive of under 15 minutes and we pull into the car parking lot - with just one small moment when the left hand drive neural pathways put me on the wrong side of the road in this right hand drive island. Check in was easy, we were expected, the room ready as we were led towards the sound of pounding surf and to a small two storey building, up a flight of stairs and into a simple room, bed, table, two chairs, stove fridge and the basics should one want to cook. Beside the comfortable bed was a double set of heavy wooden doors which when opened led to a large balcony overlooking the ocean, White capped waves pounding the shore which was lush and green with tropical grass, palms, bougainvillea, aloe, plumeria and myriad other flowering plants and shrubs. The sound was divine and lulled is to sleep every night we were there ! Dinner is only served Thursdays and Saturdays and being we arrived on the Saturday and the flights were long we opted to dine in the hotel. A simple bbq of fresh fish, shrimp or chicken with salads and sides were well all well prepared, tasty and satisfying. Serving staff were very friendly and attentive! First impressions were great and in this case were consistent throughout our 8 day stay. Breakfasts were awesome. The owner of the hotel is also a grower and has his gardens providing fresh vegetables and herbs. The farmers omelet of fresh basil, caramelized onions, fresh tomatoes and fresh goat cheese was to die for. The only complaint is that it was only margarine available with toast and the coffee was Folgers instead of some of the fine Caribbean coffees available on the island. The service at the hotel was attentive, friendly and efficient. House keeping is every second day - and though the hotel is older it was spotless, the grounds neat as a pin and the shower water always hot - not always a given in the simpler non big chain hotels that have charm and personality in Mexico and the Caribbean! In short I am a fan of this little hotel - lovely site, spectacular views from the balcony, great staff, tasty meals and close to the main road to Oistin where the fish market is a must, St Lawrence Gap with calm fine sandy beaches, Bridgetown with some shopping and on up to the coast to the Northern tip. Rent a car - drive around. This island is friendly and this hotel is a gem !
Great place to stay in Barbados! The kite beach and surf beach are nearby! The area is lovely. You can have breakfast over there and ask for a massage in the room. The rooms are spacious and pretty modern.
If you are looking for a cheap, affordable apartment with great view and close to the airport, Ocean Spray Beach Apartment would be perfect. I had an eight hour in-transit so I paid for a day pass and stayed just about five hours. The staff were very friendly and I was settled in record time. Above all, the view is a winner! For travelers, note there is no elevator so you'll have to manage the flight of stairs. I would personally recommend some upgrades though, some fresh paint and major work on the apartment door - it got stuck several times. The stairs are a bit old as well. I kept thinking it would give way.
I stayed here in December 2017 for 8 nights, costs of the rooms are good but there is always a down fall with this. This very quite location is perfect for the quite getaway, unfortunately way to quite for me. Nice typical 3 star style of accommodation with good size self-catering rooms. Be warned the lower costs will soon be bumped up with taxi's if you want to eat out in the evening or even nip to any kind of shopping which is between 6/8 kilometers way. With nothing to do in the evening, no bar or restaurants you will some times feel isolated. A excellent taxi service is available at the hotel reception. Staff friendly across the site and always willing to assist. Breakfast and lunch is available on site with stunning view from the restaurant/some rooms across the ocean. Would I return? Maybe for a few days certainly not for anything over two nights. A shuttle bus would be a nice touch or a hire car is definitely recommended. Limited access into the ocean with a small quite beach 4 minutes walk away.
I had a lovely one bedroom apt with my own little fully functional kitchen. The breeze blowing through constantly made having AC an almost not required luxury. The staff are very friendly and helpful, always quick to respond to any request or query with a cheerful smile and happy demeanor. This laid back atmosphere encourages you to get onto "island time" quickly and easily, feeling relaxed and at home. The sunrise is spectacular from the cafe and the owner has established a "farm to table" philosophy that is sustainable. The meals are fresh, organic and truly delicious. The apts are only a few mins from most other attractions and areas to visit. I happily recommend this place to anyone. I will go so for as to say : I just got back last week, and Im already planning my next trip!!!.
You really need a car as this property is out of the way. You cannot walk to eat or buy food. If you are unfamiliar with Island, it can be a tough find. I got lost and have been to Barbados a dozen times. Very quiet resort. The wifi was not the best, but not the worst either. The A/C had to be turned to very cool to feel cold. I am sure it wastes electric which is not cheap. I guess it needs cleaning or something. I would stay here again while on business. Nothing stands out positive and unique or negative. The grass was some of the softest I have ever walked on. Quiet at night. Saw a few bats flying around. Parking lot was rough. Was not awoken to the constant honking of the cabs, a real pleasure.
We were married at ocean Spray on October 14th, we had both the ceremony and the reception there, it was absolutely wonderful, the food was catered by the hotel, the food was just delicious, we had booked the event for 60 guest, the food and beverage package was more than enough for everyone who attended. The staff were on point, our package offered 2 nights stay at the hotel,we booked it for the day before the wedding and the day after . The grounds are absolutely lovely and perfect for any wedding, you have the option of the gazebo or the lawns overlooking the ocean. I'd recommend this hotel to everyone.
