Only because I’ve been to the island all my life I actually know exactly how to find this place. If you want to be off the beaten track this is the hotel for you. To get to the hotel from the airport it’s very simple to find via the tiny sign posts but if you have never been to the island before you WILL struggle to find the hotel without a rental car and at night forget about it. But the pictures online and what I took it’s an amazing destination for sure. Quiet location in the “suburbs” local store on the main road is a little walk but the ZR’s to Oistins/Bridgetown are at the same location. The quality of the rooms is not to my normal standard but for the price and views etc it’s more than exceptable. The hotel is not modern so don’t expect that. If they renovated ALL their rooms as they’ve done some but not all this place can really be something special.
Booked the Ocean Spray last minute as the aircon in our private family accommodation packed in and we needed somewhere to stay for two nights as the heat was too much to sleep. The location for this hotel by the waterfront is beautiful, stunning in fact! We didn’t get one of the more modern looking rooms we saw on the website but our room was more than sufficient given our last minute booking. We overlooked the garden and had partial sea views. Standard for our room was older but very clean and everything worked perfectly fine. The only slight downside was that our room didn’t have the thicker black out curtains so we woke up with the sunrise both mornings. The reception desk was very friendly, we checked in on time and had a look around the place. Most importantly given our situation, we had working aircon! It was a saviour for us and the price we paid to stay here was very reasonable as we got a deal on their website. It is a little out of the way and hard to find in the dark as others have pointed out. However, if you arrive in the day it’s signposted quite well from the Airport. Our sat nav took us down the wrong street initially when we returned in the dark after dinner, but eventually we found it again. We didn’t have breakfast here but it was on offer and the covered outside patio area where it was served looked cozy. There’s also a local mini supermarket not too far off which is walkable distance I’d say so you can pick up bits and bobs if you want to utilise the kitchen in your room. I think this is a great little place if you’re happy to drive around the island and don’t need instant beach access to deem your holiday a great success. For us it worked a treat and I would recommend this as a great budget option, or if you fancy a few days away from the busier main tourist areas. They don’t serve dinner in low season as a heads up.
Very charming surfer hotel with nice "garden beach", some rooms have beautiful sea views (but make special request to the hotel as you might not get them via booking). If you re looking for 5 star confort, look the other way but if you like authentic cute hôtels this is the place !
This place is very out of the way. Even with a rental car, it is not so easy to get to or find. I did not have any cell service in Barbados and the rental car company did not have any extra navigation systems I could hire. There are signs to the place, but they are hard to see in the dark. The wi-fi did not work (well, it was slow and patchy). The hot water seemed to come in bursts so I was always fiddling with the knob and the volume was low. The owner was nice and helpful on Saturday a.m., but Friday eve experience was not ideal after flying on a red eye, but no food or drink available except the mini-mart a few blocks up the road. In hindsight, I should have stayed somewhere near other restaurants/bars/shops even though I had a rental car. Road signs are not present in Barbados so it was difficult to navigate as a solo person with a hard copy map.
I made a booking for this property recently via Expedia.com as there was a Pay Later option. During the final step Expedia indicated $0.00 will be taken and payment will be due on arrival at property. I confirmed my booking and received a confirmation email indicating payment is due on arrival. Now help me to understand why a deposit was taken on this booking? I contacted the property directly and spoke to a Nekeisha who seemed only interested in telling me about the hotel policy and not at all concerned in addressing the issue at hand. At that point and told her I would simply speak to Expedia regarding the matter. I spoke to an Expedia representative who indicated the booking was made as Pay Later and he was finding it hard to understand why deposit was taken and immediately tried to get in contact with this property. After being on hold a few moments he returned and stated only the security officer was available and he was asked to call back in an hour. As advised I received a call back from Expedia representative who stated he spoke with someone from the property and they told him about the hotel policy. I'm sorry for not recording his name but I just want to say this agent was very professional and tried his best to have issue resolved. At this point and thanked the Expedia representative for his time and proceeded to call back the property. I spoke with a Sade who gave me the same hotel policy speech. I requested to speak with manager who she indicated was not on property. I advised her that I'm canceling my reservation and would like my card refunded to which she replied it would take 28-30 days. I made this booking on April 9, 2017 so you can understand my frustration given the erroneous information surrounding this reservation why this timeframe is unacceptable. I advised Receptionist that I expect a phone call from the Manager before EOB today April 10, 2017. Failure to receive call will result in legal action as this unauthorized payment was taken less than 24 hours after booking was made.
A tiny, very off the beaten path boutique hotel and restaurant. We stopped here in the middle of a five mile hike along a pristine, Long Beach. We had a wonderful breakfast while we chatted with the owner and the guests. This hotel, is close to the airport and also right on the beach. The coffee was fresh brewed espresso unlike many establishments in Barbados that serve only instant. The owner enjoys growing things and creating combinations of his fresh fruits and vegetables to serve his guests. I was amazed at howl easily we slipped into a warm and friendly conversational relationship with the owner and his guests. This is definitely worth a stay or a meal. They advertise a barbecue on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
As others have mentioned, Ocean Spray needs a little TLC. It's nothing serious--chipped plaster, fading paint--but one notices. However, you get what you pay for. For a very reasonable rate, you get a tidy room, nice shower, kitchenette and a spacious balcony. From that perch, you have a stunning view of the ocean at the islands southern tip. Wind is steady (great for kite surfers) and waves are constant (the roar soothes at night). From here you can walk the coast in both directions to great beaches. To the left, the beach is about a mile long with few people. The restaurant serves good breakfast.
Ocean Spray Beach Apartments is definitely THE best place to spend your holiday in Barbados. We were supposed to stay there just few nights but we ended up staying there our whole 12 days holiday. All the staff were extremely friendly, the location perfect for yoga, surfing and peaceful holiday. Our room was clean and cozy and had amazing view over the Ocean. If you are going to stay in Ocean Spray Apartment I highly recommend to take a forest tour with the hotel owner. His sustainable agriculture project is very interesting and forest is very beautiful. Ocean Spray Apartment is the place for you if you value nature, silence (just the waves), beauty and soulful, friendly people. Thank you so much <3
We had the most wonderful room with a balcony facing the south coast of Barbados. I was as stunned every morning opening the balcony doors. Just like in the pictures above! Just a short walk along the beach was a perfect swimming and beginners surfing beach, with two resident sea turtles swimming calmly around every day. We had only reserved three nights before our trip, and thought that we will find something else when we get there. But the spot was soo perfect so we didn't want to go anywhere. Yes, there are more classical tropical paradise hotels along the west cost, but they are either outrageously expensive (thousands a night) or very crowded. The beaches around Bridgetown are just as packed with tourists as one can imagine, this was much more quiet and secluded. Perfect for morning jog along the beach. Nearby Silver Sand beach which is a premium spot for kite surfing. The hotel in itself was not luxury standard, but quite nice and perfectly clean. A small kitchenette in the room was really an added luxury as the nearby Oistins fish market offers an absolutely wonderful selection of *really* fresh fish (tuna, lobster, mahi-mahi, you name it, all caught an hour or two earlier). The hotel offers dinner only on select nights, but breakfast and lunch every day unless you want to make it yourself. A really big plus was the very friendly personnel, reception, housekeeping, janitors, you name it. The owner/manager Mahmood also was a wonderful aquaintance. Really knowledgeable about Barbados history, culture and politics, it was really entertaining listening to him. He also has bought land for sustainable farming, trying to do his part to get the Barbados economy less import-dependent and more diverse. He took us to his farm where we saw all kinds of fruits, coconut, palms, ginger etc. being farmed. Really interesting addition for northerners like us. Some of the food served at the hotel was from the farm. For one day we rented a car and drove around the island. After seeing many other regions I am so happy that we happened to book our room at this place. I could not imagine a better price value in the Caribbean.
When we arrived in the middle of the night (5 AM or so), the owner got up, escorted us to the room, and made sure we were well supplied with water. The room was the only one without air conditioning (but it did have fans) so he upgraded us the next day. The new room was comfortable, views were great, very simple furniture. No housekeeping service. Breakfast restaurant served wholesome food with a beautiful ocean view. We were there to kitesurf and the kitesurfing beach was a 15 minute walk away -- quite wavy and cross-shore breeze.
