I stayed it was peaceful but the facility needs some maintenance the walls in my room looked like it had water damage and the a/c had the floor in the bedroom flooded. The sofa in the living room was nasty with years of dirt sitting on it.... I couldn't sit in it.. the resort needs just a little tender loving care...
Fantastic little apartment that ticked all of the boxes for my needs. The location is tucked away and the area is quiet without feeling isolated as there are shops, restuarants and the beach nearby. The actuall apartment was fine for a 3 star and the housekeeping service was great, nothing too much trouble although it would of been better to know what time to expect the housekeepers. the receptionist (Chantelle I think her name was) who checked me out on 15th Sept 2017, was warm, helpful and very accomodating. My biggest gripe was paying the $60 dollars for temperamental wifi only allowed on 2 devices for the whole stay. Overall I had a wonderful stay at no 4 Halcyon palm and will be coming back next year.
I have stayed at these apartments for the past 2 years but OMG they have been badly neglected, I stayed in no 23 ground floor apartment, no microwave, no cooking bowls or oven trays and the saucepan I wouldn't use it to boil an egg! The fridge was dirty and had othe people's things left in it. I had to clean the whole apartment. The sheets were threadbare , no blankets. No table and chairs outside I had to find some from other empty apartments. Supposed to be self catering but I could not cook anything had to eat out or just make a sandwich. BUT the noise from the locals who use the apartments but totally unbearable, load music until 2am children running around and throwing rubbish everywhere, they broke glass in the pool so it could not be used.secuity guard did nothing only saw him once! I had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper and when I asked for my room to be cleaned the maid just swept up. And the worst bit they put the price up over £300 more than last year!!!!!
We love barbados and were looking to get a good budget accommodation and this seemed to fit the bill, was a little concerned with all the negative reviews saying it was dirty, etc, but we needn't have worried it was really clean and had all we needed to cater for ourselves, and we enjoyed lots of nice meals out too, we had lots of space, and room for all our stuff, everything worked just fine, including the air con, which was very much needed in the lovely hot weather! it was a lovely peaceful neighbourhood, very close to beach, shops, restaurants etc, the reception staff are so friendly and helpful, good at their jobs, big shout out to them!! we were glad to be able to keep our room on until we had our late afternoon pick up so were able to enjoy a last full day at the beach house, which you can get a gate pass for, for a refundable deposit, it is a very good facility, we loved it there!! we made friends with other guests and it made for a lovely atmosphere, we had a brilliant holiday and would stay there again for sure, be aware that the cost of living is high in barbados, so budget for groceries and eating and drinking out, we took teabags, and other light provisions and would recommend doing the same so you have more money to spend on fun things!! also...TML one love bar on first street, about 15 mins stroll away...best bar ever, and 4 beers for 10 bb$ ice cold beer this is under £1 a bottle (4 beers to choose from) great place to mix with locals, we had best time there!!
It was very reasonable priced and convenient for getting around to Bridgetown and close to the beach. This is self catering and there are several places close by for shopping and eating. My daughter and I enjoyed the low key atmosphere and easy access to bus from main road. It is sufficient for a quick break in Barbados. It was clean but could do with a keen eyes to update a few things in the apartments. I would gladly stay again if aiming for budget
I have stayed at Travellers Palm, the sister hotel to the Halycon and it was reasonable for a budget hotel. However when I checked into the room at the Halycon I was totally gobsmacked at how dirty and shabby the room was. It had what looked like years of built in grime. See the phot of the chair and sofa. My son was supposed to sleep on his sofa bed! The bathroom was filthy with hairs on the floor. See photo. The bed sheets had holes and the curtains were ripped. I complained to the reception but they were unable to offer updated accommodation so I decided to book into another local hotel. Expedia were brilliant in refunding my accommodation costs. I can not imagine anybody wanting to stay in such a run down filthy room. The grounds are well kept and the location is good. Budget hotels don't need to be filthy, they should be able to offer a clean and basic environment.
Stayed in halcyon palms in Barbados for 2wks I wasn't expecting the ritz but there were quite a few improvements needed So here's my pros & cons list & u can decide for urself if u want to stay Here's my Cons Furniture very very tired looking . Whole apartment Needed painted & freshened up ., The Front only of some items had been painted badly but still looked old. No air con in living room. Only ceiling fan which didn't take away heat at night . Oven didn't work. No toaster. No kettle. Cutlery & cutlery drawer needed a good cleaning !! Only had small wine glasses (which is fine for wine but not if a nice cold glass off juice/water with ice) Small table had no glass on top of it found out when I put a mag on it lucky not a glass !! & it hit the floor I did 😂 Reception at other resort (so ask taxi to wait or it's a hot walk round pulling cases !!Garden to much work for 1 Gardner (he's a very hard working gardener he never stopped ) Sun beds were all broken sagging in middle !! The bird poop wasn't cleaned off sunbeds or any pool furniture in morning !! (Loads of birds so it did need cleaned ) Filter in pool when worked was rubbish as sand & stones were never cleaned out pool properly!! Fencing around pool was broken as trees had grown through them !! Need to put sign up to kept jewellery peddlers out as they can be quite insistent while ur on ur balcony trying to relax .. one even knocked on our door at 8am while we were getting showered & dressed !! No night security around complex Travelers palm rooms that we had seen was 100times better looking than any rooms at halcyon It may be cheap for Barbados but if gets anymore run down people just won't go It was probably just 1 up from a youth hostel & I ve stayed in better equipped hostels . I feel the hotel manager should take time to go into all the rooms & sort each one out to better standard of utensils & equipment.. Here's my Pros Room was clean Towels changed daily if required Room serviced everyday except Monday Rooms had safe reasonable to hire Pool area was quiet Aircon in bedroom (very much needed 😁) Wifi was available at very reasonable cost Hire of beach towels very reasonable to .. Staff were great very friendly & helpful (A kettle was rummaged up for us 2nd week 👍) Loved amillia she was so helpful to us .. Had working microwave Cooker rings worked Fridge Freezer good size & u could make ice in freezer. Tap water was drinkable. Had Balcony Due to problems it gave us a laugh with other guests in complex so it got people chatting to give a community feel making complex feel safe Complex was quiet at night No trouble in complex Could buy passes for beach house & deposit was returned at end of holiday (50bbd for 2 people) fantastic clean area & access to beach only 10 mins walk Let us keep room until late pick up at reasonable price (50 BBD) Complex 10min walk from beach Complex had very good restaurants close by. (The grillin , good choice chinese & the surf side beach bar ., tides great for sunset & zaccios fab take away .. supermarket only 10 mins away Was in great bit of Barbados loved holetown as a place Trips were half the price on beach front at surf side to what rep offered us !! Local buses were on a couple of BBD & easy to get off & on to different towns I would recommend u take some supplies to be self catering as the supermarket is extremely expensive Nxt time we would take things such as Condiments, kitchen roll couple of sponges packet sauces , teabags , pasta & cereal if u like chocolate or crisps take what u can £7 bar of dairy milk £15 large bag of cheetos !! Everything looks like it's imported so priced are very very high .. I know there's a few cons but things need said so the can be sorted & unless someone says them nothing will get down & hopefully things will be fixed or improved before returning to Barbados or we we rent a near by villa to stay in area at more cost effective rate ..
We found a late deal to Halcyon Palm which, having been to Barbados twice before - once to an all-inclusive hotel and last year for a month in a two-bedroom apartment in the south of the island - we knew was too good to miss, especially as it was on the West Coast near to the fabulously upmarket Sandy Lane Estate. As we were planning to stick to a tight budget, we were happy to self cater but knew from reading previous reviews that the kitchen in our one-bedroom apartment might not be too well equipped. Hence, we took some basic items with us, including a grater, some kitchen knives, corkscrew, a microwave dish, J cloths, sponge, and even a small lightweight frying pan. They all proved very useful, though there were frying pans even though they had seen better days. What we would have liked is a washing-up bowl or a sink plug, neither of which were provided. There is a sign reminding guests that it is their responsibility to do their own washing-up. How can guests be expected to do this in a plug-less sink with no washing-up bowl is beyond me. The fact is that Halcyon Palm is basic and a bit tired around the edges but, if you come armed with that knowledge, it is really not too bad. In fact, after getting over the fact that our apartment was not ready on arrival and was, to be blunt, in a pretty poor state, with dirty floors, a saucepan left unclean and mouldy in a cupboard and spilt, dried-on meat sauce in the oven drawer, it was even possible to get to love our apartment (after getting stuck in ourselves and giving it a good clean). The staff were friendly and helpful and quickly found replacements for the melted electric kettle, and the kaput toaster. They also were happy to get us extra pillows and glasses and find a TV, which for some reason had disappeared completely. Admittedly, we could only get two channels - CNN and a channel showing ancient movies - though this improved marginally to six channels after a week or so when an engineer had been to "sort out" the satellite. Still, we weren't there to watch TV so weren't too bothered. The wi-fi, which cost $US30 for more than a week, worked well though not in the bedroom. The telephone did not work and it was a week before an engineer fixed it. However, we were pretty relaxed about it. We did like the Halcyon Palm's location in a quiet residential area a 10 minute walk to Holetown and the Massy Supermarket. Also, for a refundable deposit of $US 25 we were able to get a membership pass to the Beach House on the seafront at Holetown, with its lovely pool, free and plentiful loungers, washrooms, showers and free wi-fi and iced water. Definitely a facility worth taking advantage of. We also loved the well-maintained tropical gardens at the Halcyon Palm though were less enamoured of the less well-maintained surroundings of the small pool. One slight drawback of Halcyon Palm is it is a five-minute walk around the road to its sister hotel Travellers Palm, which is where the reception is located, there is a bar and restaurant and a bigger and nicer looking pool. We didn't bother going there until check-out day, when we had lunch in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. All in all, the Halcyon Palm is what it is, a basic apartment hotel in a nice part of Barbados, and as long as you approach it with your expectations not too high you won't be disappointed. We would be happy to go back again.
It may be a cheaper option in barbados and the rooms maybe a bit dated which is not a problem but there's no excuse for it to be dirty and housekeeping was unreliable these apartments could be lovely if they were given a total facelift and then cleaned properly afterwards and so wrong that they charge you for the safe in the room would not stop here again
Needed some quiet time and Halcyon was suggested to me by a friend. It was exactly what I wanted. Isolated, peaceful and cozy. Receptionist were very nice. Functional kitchenette. (Would suggest hitting the supermarket first) Would definitely make this my getaway 😌can't wait to book my next stay. (Local)
