Great location, very friendly staff, very comfortable room. Never having been in Auckland before, the Grand Chancellor was perfect for us. Its location enabled us to walk to sights, restaurants, and shops.
This hotel is a good location between the Sky Tower and the port. They were very helpful when I arrived early and gave access to my room. It had all the facilities you need like hairdryer, tea, coffee, iron etc as well as microwave and small kitchen. The decor is a little tired and dingy but it was clean and comfortable and fine for one night.
Location is great, short walk to harbour with nice restaurants & bars and to city centre. Hotel, however, is very outdated. Smudgy reception, smudgy room: closetdoor hanging loose, stains on the duvet, bathroom very old with stains & chipped paint and plastic shower curtain. Quality - price ratio: overrated. Not recommanded.
The (only) positive thing: the location, nearby Princess wharf (entertainment, bars and restaurants). Hotel that has lost glamour. Carpet and duvet were filthy, bathroom dirty. Hotel is eligible for firm renovation.
The room was a good size but dated, the couch and chair in the living space were unusable (way too hard), bit of niose - but thats the location! Ok for the one night., but wouldn’t be hanging there any longer - or if you want to stay in the room. Staff were fine.
Came from cruise ship and were booked into this hotel for one night. Were placed on 1st floor overlooking back street and brick wall of building next door. With 14 floors thought could of done better couldn't imagine being booked out from state of rooms. Understand cruise company probably booked cheapest rooms but would not make us think about returning. Bed was like concrete and pillows lumpy. Tried not to think what was inside them. Room was spacious and clean however bathroom had obviously suffered water damage with door warped paint peeling off and tiles mouldy. Only small cafeteria like setting available with continental breakfast and was quite expensive. Staff were friendly enough.
We arrived at 2am and were tired so needed to find their expensive parking slot quickly. Hard! The car parking for guests is on B4 in the basement and beware - the numbering is very strange! Keep looking you will find it! We demanded help from reception. We specifically asked in advance for a quiet room and weren’t given one. Floor 2 at the front of the hotel above car park exit and Hobson St. is not quiet but earplugs worked tolerably well. Staff helpful and friendly at reception during office hours but night staff less so. The rooms are small and furniture is a bit tired but it’s clean. The bed was comfy and housekeeping efficient. There’s a green incentive to stop you asking for clean towels - one free coffee with a poor breakfast. We only had one breakfast. Expensive and unimaginative. We went out to a great place opposite the hotel in Hobson St run by some amazing ‘Happy’ people for great breakfasts for less than half the price of the hotel.
Good Location-but very small room. Very well used in need of a spruce up. Bathroom tiles were mouldy or stained-shower curtain stuck to you when in shower. Doors were all affected by moisture damage so looked tacky. Reception staff very sterile and only mildly friendly-would not stay again or recommend. The room did have a very good wee kitchenette which is ideal to save money on meals but were only there overnite-so had no use for it.
Unless you are looking for a central location in Auckland and will only be in the room for sleeping, do not stay here. As other reviews state, this is a dated mixed use facility. The rooms are plain and cramped. It is very uninviting. The surroundings are (as expected) in the middle of a city but it gave us a terrible first impression of Auckland on our holiday. I asked a late check out ahead of a 4:30pm shuttle ride to airport and was only offered Noon. Not very accommodating. My main issue when staying there was with the internet. We could not connect in our room continuously. It would either bounce us out on not let us connect at all. We could not stay in touch with our family in the U.S. and I could not stay in touch with my work either. When I approached the front desk staff, the gentleman said he had no other complaints and that it must be our computer/iPhones. These worked fine in the reception at this desk so that made no sense. He then said, "I am not calling you a liar but I still have no other complaints." Real classy guy! I had to work from the lobby from that point on. What a joke. I will stay at the Hilton next time. Do not stay here.
"Hotel" is a misnomer. No restaurant or bar in the building which resembled a block of student type accomodation.. Quite a walk from the harbour where restaurants located and not suitable for disabled. No safe in the room.Bathroom a disgrace with chipped enamel on bbath and chunk missing from corner section of two tiles. Only redeeming feature was the front of house staff who were very pleasant and helpful.
