Lovely old hotel with excellent food and service, staff incredibly friendly and if you were worried about parking there's ample less than a minute away. The Castle is just across the road and the Church arond the corner as was the museum:and then there's the ghost....
Me and my husband stayed here for 3 nights to attend a wedding. The Inn is very old and dated. It was clean and tidy. We were in room 14 which looked onto a flat roof. The room was clean as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great sleep the 3 nights we were there. The bathroom was very dated and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and always had a smile. The breakfast was good and had a great variety. There is the facilities to make hot drinks. The evening meal we had was delicious. The only downside was the room window did not open and t as a bit warm. There was a fan in the room which we had to use.
I stayed at this inn for one night when visiting an old friend. I couldn't believe it was built in the early 1300s as it is lovely! Renovated and up to date but maintaining its character. The floors on the main floor and in the pub were flagstone and the walls and ceilings were timbered in the breakfast room/dining room! My room was a single so was small but well-appointed with everything I needed! It also had a great view out to the sea and the castle across the road. The breakfast was delicious and generous and a snack in the pub tasty! Staff I encountered were friendly. It is in a good location with shops nearby and the castle(built in 1177!) and the sea just across the street!
My wife and I arrived on Saturday 30th Sept 2017 at about 4-ish pm. I went straight from work and was looking forward to a nice hot shower before me and the wife went out for dinner in a nearby restaurant. The shower was cold and no matter which way I turned the shower thermostat the water stayed cold. The room was nice and it was very clean and all the staff were helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was nice until I poured my coffee from a wee coffee pot and paper from the previous persons sugar wrapper fell into my cup (picture attached) I told the guy on reception when we were checking out about the shower (room 5) he told me that it might have been because the room was at the top of the building and I told him it happened this morning again he then told me it was because everyone got up at the same time and were all getting a shower. It'll be the Loughshore or Premier Inn the next time we stay in Carrickfergus
The staff are all fantastic and happy to serve. We ordered the Steak deal for £30 and it was beautiful. The wine that came with it was good quality too. And the complementary garlic bread was a great surprise. It was easily the best steak we have had. We will be returning!
Used this place as a base so we could explore this beautiful part of Ireland. Such a lovely hotel with lots of character about it. All the staff were very nice and made us feel really welcome. Nice bar. Bedroom very clean and comfortable. Good value for money. Would definitely stay here again .Thank you.
Haven't been here in years, met up with a few friends to have a drink, friends were served however I was ignored, eventually got the barmans attention and my pint. My drink came to £3 pounds and change, presented the barman with a £10 pound note and was asked do you not have anything smaller,as we have no change. Come on, is this the level of service you want to provide. Will be another few years before I am back.
Stayed for two nights in early September, we were well received, and all the staff here were very friendly and accommodating. The room was very cosy, comfortable, and quiet, with WiFi readily available. As per a prior note in another review, the view from our window wasn't very scenic, but then we weren't expecting a room with a view! With a castle about a hundred yards in the opposite direction, who needs one? The room was more than adequate, clean and tidy, and my son's snoring kept the resident ghost at bay. Breakfast was superb given that it was included in the price; more coffee than you could drink, toast and jam, followed by a fried breakfast - try the Ulster Fry, or Yankee Fry, both perfect to set you up for the day, and served with a smile. As mentioned, the Inn is perfectly located for Carrickfergus Castle, just across the road, the local shopping centre just around the corner, and the railway station in a straight line five minute walk away; here you can get the train to Belfast in one direction, and the scenic harbour town of Larne in the other, trains running twice an hour. I found everybody at Dobbin's, Carrickfergus, Belfast, and Northern Ireland very friendly, and hope to return again soon.
Stayed here for a night on a Saturday ... we were bitterly disappointed. The room while clean is very basic and could do with a serious refurb. Equally the view of the crumbling building and untidy back area was also not great. For what we payed we could have most certainly stayed somewhere much nicer. I must highlight the staff are extremely friendly and the breakfast was good but despite this we wouldn't be returning. Had we have been staying for longer than one night I would have certainly raised a few issues about the standard of room received for the price. While I appreciate this is an old style inn set and designed to show off its history it shows a lot more .. mainly a lack of TLC and needs major renovations.
Excellent accommodation, excellent choice of breakfast included in the very reasonable price. Staff extremely friendly, will be returning without a doubt. Right across road from Carrickfergus Castle, well position for train to Belfast.
