We chose Villa Doris for our stay in Lagos and we had a great stay, but there were a few negatives. The building is attached to a massive abandoned hotel, which can be a bit quite dark and creepy walking by it at night. We arrived late and there isn't 24hour reception, so we had to wait for the concierge to come from a different location to check us in. The first night we were in an apartment with a large terrace, but unfortunately there was a big issue with wood lice and potato bugs coming into the apartment from the terrace. The next day we were offered a different room and it was completely clean and no issues. The concierge we met with was extremely helpful and she was great. After that we had a good stay because the apartments are steps away from a beautiful beach. I recommend not requesting the room with the big terrace if you can help it, but the other room was great and clean. Other than the first night, it was a good stay.
The hotel itself is quite nice. The room was well appointed, bed comfy, nice view on our side, opening windows, AC, small balcony, great kitchen. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay. On the downside, the walls are thin and we had noisy neighbors. The parkade is dark and creepy and hard to get a car in and out of. And there is a derelict abandoned building next door which is also creepy, especially at night. We liked being right at Praia Dona Ana and the trails heading west to Ponte de Piedade. It's an easy 10 minute walk into town and at night the area is quiet. All in all a terrific location for those liking a beach type holiday.
Perfect location, close to what I would consider the best beach here in Lagos. Nice, but decent walk into town. Great and friendly service, especially Suzanna on the front desk. 2 convenience stores close by
We stayed in Villa Doris for one week at the end of August. We found the apartment to be well equipped, big and comfortable. We had asked for a balcony and we were delighted to have received a large one. We found the location to be perfect for the beach and convenient to get into the town. However, there are no street lights on the road back from the town and it is very dark. While the abandoned building next door was unnerving at night, it was unavoidable. The hotel at which the pools were located was very close and very nice and well equipped. However, upon arrival, we had to wait until 4.45pm to check in to our room. While check in was advertised, and confirmed by the staff, to be 3pm, the staff made no effort to apologise nor to explain why we were delayed. After several hours in the room, we noticed a large number of insects on the balcony, mostly wood lice. These insects would often appear inside the room as well. We would often see large numbers of ants in the bathroom. We left a note for the house keeper, asking that the apartment and balcony be sprayed for insects. While cleaned and swept, the insects reappeared the following day. Overall this is a nice apartment complex with excellent facilities, but the delayed check in and insects in and around the room was unfortunate. Eat at Onda Norte which is less than 5 minutes away, it's beautiful!
We stayed here as a group of 5 friends in a two bedroom suite with sea views - the suite was fantastic, all modern, completely kitted out kitchen with dishwasher (even a juicer), large balcony with views. Extremely close to beautiful beach and close enough to walk to town at night for food and drinks. The hotel itself has no real facilities but about a 7 min walk away is the sister hotel with swimming pool, restaurant etc, we went here on afternoons for cocktails, food and a swim! Definitely go for a sea view, land view isn't much to look at!
We (family with teenager) stay in Villa Doris Suites for 4 nights in July. These are suites with perfect hotel service (front desk and room service). We had beautiful one bedroom apartment with two bathrooms (one with hot tube and one with shower) and balcony. We did not have ocean view but really enjoyed family dinners on our balcony. Breakfast (which was enormous) was served in their sister hotel (7 min walk). If you need grocery store 3 min walk from hotel. Dona Ana beach really across hotel. They provided beach towels and umbrellas. Overall we were very happy with our chouce.
We stayed at this property from July 5-July11, 2017 inclusive. We were thrilled with our stay there. The staff was very friendly and the 1 bedroom SeaView was terrific. It is also renovated modern with great underground parking free of charge. The geography around the beaches are some of the nicest I have seen in the world! Pay for the breakfast option...it was wonderful with a lot of wonderful fresh selection. We actually had a family of 5 even though you could only book for a family of 4 (shhhh). They provided us a roll away bed that the kids fought over to sleep on because it was so comfortable. The pull out double couch was also very comfortable for the kids to sleep on. The car park was interesting...very tight to navigate but no problem with a bit of patience...and if your car is small. The fact that they had a secure garage and underground parking was great! Having the extra security with a rental car was piece of mind. We will come back to this property again in the future and highly recommend it as a family friendly place to stay.
Stayed here for 4 nights with my 2 late 20 yr old daughters . Great location , on beach , 10 minute walk to town. Roomie ,no fancy decorations, but clean and had everything we needed. Good shower, small deck but with table and ocean view. Comfortable and staff very nice and helpful. Too bad building next to it being torn down? Or just demo? Otherwise nice location, parking and clean with updated kitchen and bath.
I was so impressed by this place. The apartment was large, very clean and bright and cleaned on a daily basis, which was wonderful. There were 3 of us sharing this apartment. There was a really large double bed in the bedroom and a very comfortable pull-out bed in the living room. The location was perfect. There was a 15 minute walk to the old town and the marina. The beaches closest to the apartment were all stunning. The receptionist, Susanna, was so helpful, friendly and welcoming. I have already recommended this place to a friend who is visiting next week.
As per other reviews, the rooms are nice. Make sure you get the sea view otherwise you will over look waste land and some houses. It is very close to the beach and Lagos main town is about 15-20 mins walk. However, the car park. There is a free carpark outside with you will compete for spaces with beach goers and other hotels so not a high chance of getting a space. The hotel does have a private carpark, here in lies the rub. If you have anything bigger than a go kart it is like trying to thread a needle with oven gloves, difficult to get around. I had an A3 Audi to park and lots of expletives were said trying to park. If you have an estate...forget it. You have better off dismantling you car and taking it up to the room!!! It is extremely tight and there is a high chance of scratching a rental car. So in summary, room good, car park bad....very, very bad.
