Villa Doris Suites

This is the first time Trip Advisor has steered our family in the wrong direction. I couldn't get over the abandoned building, that is five times larger then the hotel, and shares a wall with the Villa Doris Suites. Having two kids (10 and 13) who wanted nothing more then to explore the crumbling building, made my trip a bit stressful. There were multiple people 'squatting' in the derelict building, and although they were quite friendly it definitely was a concern. Aside from that, the actual apartment was nice, the view was good, the location to the beach was nice, and the staff was fantastic! Unfortunately there was no 5 Euro breakfast (it was 14 Euros), but it did look quite good. My husband felt it was too far from the city center, but I enjoyed being close to a beautiful beach.

My family of 4 stayed 3 nights (23-26 Dec 2017) comfortably in a 1 bedroom sea-facing apt with a huge terrace (#403) which we believe was an upgrade in view of the low season for an incredible 70 Euros a night. Yes, there is the derelict establishment next to it. Forget about the eyesore. And we did not hear noise from vagrants or animals. Just enjoy the spectacular cliffs from the apt. Apt as noted generally was super clean with everything in working order - we attest for these as almost all eating establishments were closed on Christmas Eve evenings and the whole of Christmas day - we cooked ourselves. We found everything we needed for at the InterMarche Express opposite the Marina - some 15 minutes via the shortcut in the Old Town - Reception will guide you on this. The 5 Euros per pax breakfast is a steal. Atop continental items, there are lots of local goodies to sample including brandy etc. Villa Doris is a great base to hike and discover the lovely cliffs of Lagos, which we did every day. We encountered many retirees and upcoming vacation homes. Go there and you'll LOVE it... Last but not least: On our final day, we had to take the 6.20am bus to Sevilla. We walked for about 20 minutes from Villa Doris to the bus station with our cabin luggage. The distance from town is not an inconvenience... The plus is you stay next to the famous Lagos cliffs...

Stayed in villa Doris for 4 nights over Xmas .. checkin was perfect, our room wasn’t right we ordered a sea view , it wasn’t the Hotels fault , it was our Travel agents but the hotel changed our room without any fuss .... The apartments are amazing clean spacious everything you could ask for ..There is a derelict building next door which is very unsightly ...

This was a very nice apartment with a fully equipped kitchen - including a dishwasher. There was also a nice balcony and a separate bedroom. The check in was not smooth. We were told to check in at their other location. When we got there we were told that there was a staff at Villa Doris to check us in. But once we were settled we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is right next to Praia de D Ana - which is a gorgeous beach. There is a little tourist train that stops in front. It goes into town and makes a loop in about an hour. You can hop on and off all day.

Very clean and modern & new hotel. Biggest shortfall was not having much of a pool area. Great location...Short walk to the spectacular beach Dona Ana. And very close to Camillo beach and many places nearby to eat. Hotel also had beach towels and beach umbrellas to borrow.

We chose Villa Doris for our stay in Lagos and we had a great stay, but there were a few negatives. The building is attached to a massive abandoned hotel, which can be a bit quite dark and creepy walking by it at night. We arrived late and there isn't 24hour reception, so we had to wait for the concierge to come from a different location to check us in. The first night we were in an apartment with a large terrace, but unfortunately there was a big issue with wood lice and potato bugs coming into the apartment from the terrace. The next day we were offered a different room and it was completely clean and no issues. The concierge we met with was extremely helpful and she was great. After that we had a good stay because the apartments are steps away from a beautiful beach. I recommend not requesting the room with the big terrace if you can help it, but the other room was great and clean. Other than the first night, it was a good stay.

The hotel itself is quite nice. The room was well appointed, bed comfy, nice view on our side, opening windows, AC, small balcony, great kitchen. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay. On the downside, the walls are thin and we had noisy neighbors. The parkade is dark and creepy and hard to get a car in and out of. And there is a derelict abandoned building next door which is also creepy, especially at night. We liked being right at Praia Dona Ana and the trails heading west to Ponte de Piedade. It's an easy 10 minute walk into town and at night the area is quiet. All in all a terrific location for those liking a beach type holiday.

Perfect location, close to what I would consider the best beach here in Lagos. Nice, but decent walk into town. Great and friendly service, especially Suzanna on the front desk. 2 convenience stores close by

We stayed in Villa Doris for one week at the end of August. We found the apartment to be well equipped, big and comfortable. We had asked for a balcony and we were delighted to have received a large one. We found the location to be perfect for the beach and convenient to get into the town. However, there are no street lights on the road back from the town and it is very dark. While the abandoned building next door was unnerving at night, it was unavoidable. The hotel at which the pools were located was very close and very nice and well equipped. However, upon arrival, we had to wait until 4.45pm to check in to our room. While check in was advertised, and confirmed by the staff, to be 3pm, the staff made no effort to apologise nor to explain why we were delayed. After several hours in the room, we noticed a large number of insects on the balcony, mostly wood lice. These insects would often appear inside the room as well. We would often see large numbers of ants in the bathroom. We left a note for the house keeper, asking that the apartment and balcony be sprayed for insects. While cleaned and swept, the insects reappeared the following day. Overall this is a nice apartment complex with excellent facilities, but the delayed check in and insects in and around the room was unfortunate. Eat at Onda Norte which is less than 5 minutes away, it's beautiful!

We stayed here as a group of 5 friends in a two bedroom suite with sea views - the suite was fantastic, all modern, completely kitted out kitchen with dishwasher (even a juicer), large balcony with views. Extremely close to beautiful beach and close enough to walk to town at night for food and drinks. The hotel itself has no real facilities but about a 7 min walk away is the sister hotel with swimming pool, restaurant etc, we went here on afternoons for cocktails, food and a swim! Definitely go for a sea view, land view isn't much to look at!
