Great hotel with fantastic staff. Booked a sea view room and whilst it was a bit of a walk it did not disappoint with great views and a fab layout with large tub in the room. Pablo the manager was most engaging on the gala night and we spent an interesting time speaking to him. Hope your trip to Edinburgh goes well at Christmas. Overall a great place to stay and only a short 30 min walk to the marina and town or use the train from just outside the hotel. Hired a motor bike and used the underground secure car park at night Somewhere i would happily return to

The hotel with it's no children policy provided a lovely environment with attentive staff and good food to make the stay in the hotel an excellent one. However the long beaches or the mini train tram should have provided a pleasant route into the town of Lagos, unfortunately the wasteland between the road and the beach was in places no more than a dumping ground for builders rumble and the like with the road into Lagos having many derelict and graffiti covered buildings along it's route this was echoed once you left the main streets in the town itself.

We had the most relaxing week at this lovely hotel in October 2017. The hotel staff members are friendly and helpful. We had a room on the first floor with a sea view. It was relaxing to listen to the sea waves at nights and the sunrise view from our room was spectacular. The room was clean, cosy and modern with a very comfortable bed and fantastic rain shower. We used the bath once just to try it out. It was fun. We arrived to a courtesy bottle of wine in our room and also received another bottle of wine plus fruit and a card for my husband's birthday. The hotel is directly opposite the most amazing beach of soft golden sand that just stretches on and on. We enjoyed lazy days on the beach and there are two beach bars/ restaurants for lunch and cocktails. The hotel has two good sized outdoor pools and an indoor pool plus a gym and spa. My husband used the gym most days and found the equipment suitable for his workout. We enjoyed the hotel food. Breakfast was excellent with a very wide range and we liked that we didn't have to rush down as it was served up until 10.30am. We also enjoyed the evening meals, again a good range of tasty food with something for even the fussiest of eaters. We thought that although the restaurant staff were lovely people, they require better organisation and need to provide a swifter response to need. There was one occasion when they seated us and then gave the table to another couple when we got up to get our food. This shouldn't have happened and it caused a bit of a kerfuffle. The issue was resolved but it wasn't a nice experience for us or the other couple and the restaurant staff member involved did not apologise, instead he left the confusion for his colleague to sort out. That being said, all our other mealtimes were enjoyable. Lagos the nearby resort is fabulous with lots of interesting shops, eateries and a beautiful harbour. A truly lovely place to spend your days. Transport is regular. We travelled on the tram into Lagos but it is a walkable distance. We took the train into Portimao and Albufeira for day trips. The receptionist at the hotel was very helpful with train timetables and directions. We can't fault the reception staff, the TUI staff or the cleaning service. All were good and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would definitely return to this hotel. It was our first visit to Portugal and we loved it.

I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel and while it is a decent place, it is just a few points shy of being a great hotel. Some areas of the hotel look a little tired. The carpets in the hallways where the rooms are appear heavily stained in places. We stayed in one of the suites - spotless and very stylish. My only comment would be is that there is a lounge room which has a sofa and two chairs. There is also a TV and two small balconies. However there is a fridge plonked on the floor with a piece of hardboard on top and a kettle on top of that. The walls are blank and the room just feels like an after thought. The food is OK. Not a huge amount of choice. The food is never served hot. It is in drums which had lids which were constantly being opened so the food never retained any heat. The service is hit and miss. Some of the staff worked really hard - others seemed a bit indifferent. We always sat on the balcony area. One morning I saw one member of staff constantly walking past tables that had been vacated and needed clearing. However they never made any effort to clear them. There were napkins on the ground and scraps of food but the same staff member ignored that as well. That isn't really what I expect from any hotel but especially not one of that standard. Around the pool area there are loose paving flags and decking so be careful when wandering around. These areas are again kept spotless and staff are friendly. Definitely visit the A La Carte restaurant. The food and service are fabulous. The furniture is very bland and looks like it is from a cheap café so it doesn't really compliment the standard of hotel. All in all, this hotel offers plenty but does need to up its game!

We had an enjoyable week long stay at the Sensimar Lagos. The hotel staff are amazing, very attentive, helpful, courteous and polite and nothing is too much trouble. Our room overlooked the pool and sea so had lovely views, especially early mornings with the sunrise over the sea and in the evenings, with the changing lights, a feature of the hotel which give a lovely warm ambience. The hotel also enjoys beautiful sea views from the restaurant and lobby and the golden sandy beach which is accessed across the road at the back of the hotel is truly beautiful. The restaurant buffet food was plentiful both at breakfast and in the evening and was varied and of good quality. We weren't too spoilt for choice at lunchtime unfortunately with only the poolside snack bar and restaurant menu to go on - if this had also been buffet, it would have given a wider more varied choice of food which is normally the case in a 5* hotel. There are other areas which need to be addressed. The carpeted areas of the communal corridors have visible bleach marks (not from the sun as mentioned in previous reviews but bottled bleach - the cleaners possibly?); by the poolside snack bar and pool, there are areas of dry/dead patchy grass, weeds growing in between slabs, overgrown and very dry shrubs/plants, the odd broken decking and loose slabs - in all, not a pretty sight. We tried to book treatments in the spa but were told that only one therapist was working that week and she was fully booked which was disappointing. Having said all that, we did enjoy a very relaxing stay thanks to exceptionally hard working staff not to mention the Thomson Reps who made our stay very relaxing.

We wanted a relaxing holiday after a frantic year. We love Portugal but wanted to try somewhere new. Lagos is a lovely town with lots to do and see. We drove in, parking was very cheap. There are markets on the river, selling the same old stuff, lots of local cork products. The Marina is nice and worth a look, we stopped at the Italian restaurant as it was well recommended on Trip Advisor, that was nice. The view over the boats is good and there is limited parking near the Train station behind it. Some try selling you boat trips; we were too lazy to do these, but are meant to be good. I’m not to be trusted on a boat according to the other half! The hotel is modern, spotlessly clean and a great calming environment for a holiday. We drove from the airport, it was just about an hour even at a steady pace. We did get told that the transfer via coach could be long, but as were towards the end of the season others said it was only just over an hour. We were on the 5th floor we partial sea view, the view was lovely with a fantastic balcony to sit out on; it was quite a drop. The room felt relaxing with the most amazing bed, massive (we both starfished and could not reach each other!). It was a firmish mattress with a thin cotton mattress protector on top. The cleaners were discreet and kept the place to a high standard of cleanliness. There was a good tv with English/American/Spanish and inevitably Portuguese channels, we watched a bit of Discovery channel. The bath was lovely, we used it twice, you only have a partial view of the tv (sad I know). The shower was lovely, hot and powerful. It is a little odd having open plan with only one door to cover the loo or shower area. (May be a bit odd for friends) All nicely appointed nonetheless. The towels were changed everyday, there was a safe for free and a reasonable sized fridge. We went shopping and got items for lunches and kept them in there, although we asked for plates/cutlery which I called reception for, it seems this was an odd request for them and I had to enter the closed restaurant at about 11am to get them. Not exactly 5 star service, otherwise I would have had to pay for room service! A minor point but sometimes it’s the details. The restaurant was nice, breakfast was generally very well presented with tea, coffee requests when arriving. They coped with decaf requests and requests from other guests for fresh lemon and hot water well. Selection of cereals was basic, fruit was great lots of fruit salads. Cooked breakfasts seemed impressive with tomato ketchup and brown sauce available (hp), there was soya milk and water provided. Dinners were varied, always something available that most would like, the buffet offered some tasty fish, meat and veg dishes. The carrots were beautiful, as was most of the veg. Meat could be a little chewy at times, curries were good. Beer was unpalatable for me, just drinkable and not cheap. We spent €70 on drinks, over 10 days and that was two bottles of water at each meal €3.50ea. We asked for ice and sometimes got it and other times did. The English skills were excellent overall, although we did try the odd Portuguese word. It is nice to be able to eat inside/out. Music was a little low rent and amazing at times if acceptable, were odd I know noticing these things. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. We took part in the acticies that Teressa laid on (relaxation/meditation and stretching) really nicely delivered and guided, she has a lovely approach and was enthusiastic. We did take part in the photo walk too, the guide was knowledgeable and we enjoyed the walk. We spent some time around the pool chilling, there was plenty of sun beds and shades, the pool was clean and it was very relaxing. The music was just the right volume and of reasonable quality (use this music in the restaurant please). We had food at the top and bottom pool both were ok quality wise but pretty pricey, ok went you cannot be bothered to go out of the hotel for lunch. The beach is beautiful; typical of this coastline, it is a long sandy beach with stunning fine sand in parts. The waves were lovely, we don’t surf but looks like to could. We ventured to St.Vincent (worth a look) in the car, Silves was the nicest place we went, beautiful, lots to see. We went to the castle. We did go into the mountains , unfortunately it was a cloudy day but saw good views nonetheless. Careful of the roads as some go from normal tarmac to stoney rocky bumpy dusty mess, so be careful. We abandoned two routes taking a diversion. The hotel is beautifully designed and is a little bit of a maze to navigate, and is genuinely big, but not overwhelming. The grounds are well kepted. We had a massage which was good, there is a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi/indoor pool. The steam room was a little limp, the rest were ok. The holiday was relaxing, the air con in the room was acceptable we had the door open, although we couple hear the odd dog, rooster and occasionally the staff coming into work, I slept ten hours some nights. A great holiday, the minor service issues (we are sticklers for service) and some slight quality areas (food) was only really let down, but this is being picky tbh. Relaxing, great location for us, we can see that some would find it a little sedate, but that’s exactly what we wanted! Well done to the staff, some great effort and service, thanks.

We have just returned from Sensimar (6 days and 6 nights) and we had a wonderful time. We arrived v.late (1am) and the hotel knew this as we had informed them; someone was waiting to quickly check us in and when we got to our room there was chocolate, fruit, bubbly and red wine waiting for us. We only stayed BB as we wanted to go into Lagos in the evenings so dont know what dinner is like. But breakfast is wonderful - everything you could ever want. The pools are lovely - the outside unheated one is particulary refreshing in the heat! People are not allowed to reserve sunbeds so you can wander out to the pool anytime safe in the knowledge you will find a spot and lounger. The bar is lovely - you might think a bit pricey but found most of their drinks to only be a euro or so more than those in town. Get the barman to make you a cocktail - great fun to watch and they were great at recommending drinks to us. The staff are lovely - attentive but discreet - not hounding you all the time. We got the train that stops about 100m down the road into Lagos (bargain at 1.40 euros a person). The walk is lovely but will take you an hour to reach town - the train takes 4 minutes! A great spot to visit the west coast and towards the east - we had a car as like exploring. But we could have happily just stayed at the hotel as it was so lovely - and we aren't just lie by the pool kind of people!

Booked this hotel last minute so wasn't sure what to expect. Was certainly not disappointed-fabulous hotel with pleasant attentive staff . Hotel clean and spotless with lovely open plan bedroom/bathrooms. Large balcony with pool and sea view. Quiet relaxed atmosphere which was just what we wanted from an adult only hotel. Lots of comfy sunbeds available. Food great with plenty of it and very attentive, pleasant ,friendly staff. Lovely pools but outdoor ones a bit chilly! No photoshopping on the pictures -the actual views even better. Nearby beach beurtiful too. A bit far from town but lots of ways to get there and we were happy to be out of town.. We will be back there again in the future as such a lovely hotel.

We have just returned from a totally relaxed week at the Sensimar, room 615 perfect with fantastic views of coast line, nice little touches such as wine and chocolate in the room. We would have rated it a 5 star however we felt the food could have been better and let it down, not sure if this was because it was the last week of season, if they get the food right it would be perfect.

We arrived at lunchtime to be guided to sofas and the receptionists came to us to check us in, so much nicer than having to que at the desk. Our rooms were very comfortable and clean, and it was all very contempory. There was a bottle of wine, chocolates and water for us. there are 3 pools 1 large 1 smaller round one and an indoor one for the cooler days (we only got to use the large one as the weather was lovely when we wanted to swim. Very close to the most amazing beach on our door step and not at all busy (well it was October). Buffet meals of Breakfast and Dinner were fabulous even the most picky people could find a delicious dish. Only bug bear was having to buy water to have with dinner. Overall a very comfortable hotel with delicious food in a quiet setting (might not be suitable for people who want to have nightlife on their door steps). we may well be back for a longer stay next time.
